    Excellent advice regarding clothing items and the amount of time you would wear them. I have far too many items for the lifestyle I haven't got now that I'm retired. Lovely pieces but I just never wear them. (BTW I love your hair. DON'T listen to the trolls!).

    I'm counting my items tomorrow, out of curiousity, Michelle. Without even looking, I know I have more than 40 jackets!
    Mind you, that includes all seasons and occasions. My rule is... One in- one out (shoes included).
    I don't keep synthetics, things that are 'pilling', outsize, out-of-date, or just don't suit me, or my colouring.
    I keep mostly neutrals, now, but love to add a 'funky' item... Like a belt, hat or item of jewellery.

      Hi Bernita, Thank you for your comment. Yes you do have to take into account seasons if you live in a seasonal climate. It sounds as if you have made a great start though and have a great plan!

      Smiling at your Yoga teacher comment as I'm a Yoga teacher who teaches 3 classes a day, 5 days a week, and I only have 3 pairs of leggings. I love them all & I honestly don't feel like I need more. Leggings are generally made of unsustainable fibres (plastic, basically), and I care enough about the environment to not use my profession as an excuse to overconsume. On another note - it makes me super happy to hear the seagulls in the background! ❤

    Really good advice! I have got rid of a lot of things as I have just moved house but i find a lot of my clothes don"t go together so putting together an outfit is difficult. I like the suggestion of thinking more about the colours and keeping it simple. I also watched your over fifties and how to look elegant videos, so I think I will be able to make some progress now. Lovely to hear a British accent, I am a Brit living in Canada. We definately have four seasons here.

I made notes, so I’ll be working on this, bit by bit…. Pants, dresses, blouses, tshirts, shells, etc. can’t wait to get started. Fortunately they are all in one room- closet, bins, drawers. One by one… thanks ever so much.

    Brilliant! This is the best advice I have heard in a loong time. The dreaded take everything and put on your bed only works if you do not have way too many! I have not heard the Take one sort of item at a time! I think I will do that just to see where do I have gaps as well! The other tips I have heard but never together in this way! How often you wash is so important to how many cloths you need! This video I will go back to many times! Brilliant! 👌

      @capsuleclosetstylist  3 месяца назад +1

      Hi Eva, Thank you for taking the time to give me feedback again I greatly appreciate it. Yes it does not work doing it all in one go if you have lots of clothes, but you do need to see how much of one type of item you have to make decent decisions. Take your time with it!

    • @evalindell2757
      @evalindell2757 3 месяца назад

      @@capsuleclosetstylist Well I do not have many items so it is quite easily done. But I will do it like I said to see gaps and doubles. If I pull out all bottom for summer. I have 2 pair of jeans and 2 pairs of thin trousers and 2 pairs of linnen trousers. I see that I have double in beige…. And no blue 🤔 I’d like a pair of nice blue summer pants. Not just wearing jeans as my blue bottom. Good Exercise if you do not like to have an app with all your cloths (I use Whering) or if you are like me and want to see up close, feel and touch!

    • @evalindell2757
      @evalindell2757 3 месяца назад

      @@capsuleclosetstylist Well I use Whering and I really like it but there are things I would change if I could. The thing is it gets expensive if you are buying several apps, pay patrion to see extra things, then your chanels on telly and newspaper, magazines etc. There is no way I can afford all I would like to have so I have limitid my options to free for everything exept my favourit garden designer Jo Thompson. I am totally in to gardening and I am an all weather all year gardener. If anything keeps me from gardening when I scheduled to do so I see as a failiur. I put my money and my time to gardening, cloths, book and family, grandchildren most. But that means I can’t pay for anything else. I think it is incredibly hard with the competions to get new things out there that you make money on. Saying that I would love an clothing app for us with many capsuls. So I could not only see how many bottoms I have or tops but that were made with capsuls as a base… Good Luck and let me know if you do one it would be fun to test, for free that is! Lots of love from Sweden 🇸🇪

    Hi Michelle
    It sounds like my next declutter vil be soon. When I take my autumn/winter clothes from my suitcase in the ceiling and put my spring/summer clothes there instead - then I have everything available at one time.
    But how much clothes do you count in ( underware etc) or just tops and bottoms ? Dresses, sweaters and cardigans? I prefer a cardigan instead of a blazer. In Denmark the seasons have different temperatures - and one has to count the wind in too.
    So far I have managed to have a wardrobe of my own sewed clothes - which I really like and use - but Iprobably have too much - thats why the declutter could be in place. And I'm on retirement which changes the need for new outfits too. But I still want to look faboulus every day.
    Thank you so much for this video. I'll like to see a video of how to make assesory kits/wardropes to go allong with my clothes, different assesories could really change the look. Thank you for beeing here and helping us.
    My very best regards Hanne

      Hello Hanne, Thank you for taking the time to comment. I love Denmark btw I have a good friend who lives there. So in regards to numbers to keep use the example I susggested and think about how many you need in terms of how often you use it in a month. Then on top work out how many times you would usually wash it so you can reuse it. That should give you an average number. In regards to accessories, interestingly I am just putting a video togather now regarding accessories so what out for that one!

      @@capsuleclosetstylistDear Michelle. Thank you so much - I'll start to write down on a piece of paper, what my plans are for the coming fourthnight ( every two weeks - can't spell right now) and plan what to wear, that will give me an idea. Then I'll try to see if I can repeat any clothes before just endlessly washing them - I probably wash too much too. Thanks so much for the answer and making the videos. It's so nice to think and learn. My very best regards Hanne p.s. Nice that you know Denmark - we're so close in minds with the Brittish people❤

      Hello Hanne, Yes just take your time with it. It should not be rushed to get it right. Less is more but you do not want so little that you have nothing to wear. It is about getting the balance right and that takes time.

    Hi, Michelle. I've only just discovered your channel, and I'm enjoying it. You may have covered this already, but if not, I wonder if you'd do an episode on shoes. I, like you, have feet that don't readily slip in to retail footware. (My foot isn't exactly wide, but it's wide where retail footware says it should be narrower or, worse, pointed.) I thought I might have caught a glimpse of you wearing Empress Australia square toe flats, which I've noticed but not tried. At any rate, I like attractive shoes, but they often don't like me, and I wonder what you recommend.

    • @capsuleclosetstylist
      @capsuleclosetstylist  3 месяца назад

      @jomcginty1870 Check out my most recent video on accessories. That said I do not really cover this. Empress are very comfortable and a little wider. Use code CAPSULECLOSET10 for 10% off if you do decide to try them. In addition take a look at Fitville they do trainers and walking shoes for wider feet. I will add this subject to my list. Thank you for suggesting it.

    hi, Michelle, am glad that I found you.... could you tell me, what is the formula for creating a decluttered wardrobe ? ie how many tops, bottom, colors etc

    • @capsuleclosetstylist
      @capsuleclosetstylist  3 месяца назад

      Hello I am glad you found it helpful. Thank you for your comment. So I do not believe in predetermined numbers for a capsule because all of us live in different climates and do different things at different stages of life. I don't think the 333 or 100 or whatever other number you see banded about works. Hwever what does work is working it out for you. So first think about what you need for what you do over an average month, then work out how many times you can re-wear that item once it has gone through the wash cycle. So lets say for example Barbara works full time Monday to Friday. She has to wear skirts to work but does not wear them outside of work. Barbara does a wash cycle twice a week and tends to wear a skirt for two days before washing it. So she has decided that she needs 3 skirts that she can rotate over and over again Monday and Tuesday the first skirt, Wednesday and Thursday the second, then Friday either the third skirt, or if it is ready maybe back to the first one as it has gone through the wash cycle. Does that make sense?

    I have a large wardrobe and lots of clothes. I have many fantasy pieces that make me feel great and take up 20 percent or less of my time. My challenge is the boring everyday clothes that make me feel grubby and less attractive. This is the walking the dog, housework, cooking, reading books at home clothes. Sports pants and a t-shirt basically. What can I do to brighten up my workhorse daily clothes?

    Fewer items, not less items. Item(s) is a countable noun, so use fewer, clothes or clothing are non-countable nouns, so it’s ok to use less.🙂

  • @KimberlyPerrotis
    @KimberlyPerrotis 14 дней назад

    I gave up on certain brands because their tops, sweaters, etc. are just always way too low-cut and/or the necklines are too big, or the shoulder straps are too long and can’t be shortened because they have curved edges (H&M, Sezane and others). I’m petite, but have a naturally full bust, 36D, so I can’t just size way down to solve the problem. I don’t show any cleavage, ever, and some of these tops open almost to the navel! I love V-necks, but they have to be modest, I hate men staring at my chest! Scandi, UK and many French brands are the worst, they design clothes for much bigger, taller women. I don’t get it, the average American woman is only 5’4”/164 cm, like me, so why design for women over 6 feet? The US is the world’s largest apparel market, by far. Then, the huge shoulder width, don’t even get me started! Fit is everything, well almost anyway. Fabric is also enormously important to me, as is color and style/cut.

    • @capsuleclosetstylist
      @capsuleclosetstylist  14 дней назад

      Yes and I think as the population are getting bigger so are the clothes!
