    The thing about confidence: when menopause hit, people started ignoring me, to the point that they don't even allow me space on the sidewalk. I don't think I walked without condidence or even changed the way I looked, but I became invisible.
    Now I have decided not to step away from the sidewalk, but it takes extreme amounts of assertiveness, so people walk by me, not even looking at me for a second, or acknowledging me.
    I don't feel the fault is with me. It reflects society's opinion of mature women

      I find this really sad however I do understand what you mean. When I feel like I’m being fobbed off or ignored, I think I take up more space. I feel like that is what we need to do as a collective - take up space and be seen.

      I so agree! Somehow we just don’t seem to matter any more. Shops and brands should take more care, we’re the only ones with big budgets to spend! Nit those teenagers who still live at Mom and Dad’s. 🙂

    I never gave up my matching, more or less, accessories, even when it was supposedly “out of style”. I love the classic, restrained look of a same-color, high-quality leather bag, belt and footwear. I so agree about simplicity, about 90% of elegance is just simplicity and restraint, the rest is about quality, classic styles and well-chosen, personally flattering colors. I’ve always preferred a timeless, elegant and classic look and I think it’s the most sustainable. We get extra mileage from classic, simple wardrobe items, they don’t look dated for a long time, and they’re much more versatile than super-trendy, statement items. I always find a few trends I love, but they are always the ones that fit into my classic style framework. The rest I ignore or perhaps adopt a less extreme version, if I like a trend.

    I find it so odd that so many 'celebrity' women like to say that there is a magical age where they say they no longer feel pressure to conform to fashion, beauty etc. or other stress situations when this is clearly not true. They say they know who they are, but they still actually conform. The difference is they understand the rules and they helped set them. I believe it is a form of one upmanship, so it is useful for all of us women who want to look good/better as we get older to have the advice you are giving.

    Love your ideas for maintaining style without that sad, "I'm trying to look younger " look. Would love to see/hear more ideas for different climates. I live in a climate that is warm and humid year-round (75-85 F. /24-29 C. highs daily), so most "seasonal" advice doesn't apply here. (Sweaters/jumpers and 3-piece suits are not practical options.) Thoughts for variety within the context of a consistently warm (or cool) environment would be great. Thanks so much - Love you and love your work!

    • @capsuleclosetstylist
      @capsuleclosetstylist  10 дней назад +3

      Hi Rosemary thank you for your comment. The beauty of building a capsule wardrobe for yourself is that you include what you love. I love my trousers long. I’ve had lots of compliments on them too. I do not like ankle grazers for me as they do not work so well for my height. That’s great they work for you though. This is why it is best to not be swayed away from what works for the individual. I have learnt over the 25 years that I have done this job that we all have different interpretations of style and that is what makes life interesting.

    My fashion/wardrobe interests: all-natural fiber fabrics and materials, dresses and skirt outfits year-round, classic, elegant, timeless style in mostly light colors and light neutrals, petite styling (I’m the average US woman’s height of 5’4”, US size 6/8 and 125 lbs. (the average US woman is now a chunky size US 16/UK 20)! Both clothes and accessories, Premium High Street price range, please. US-accessible links. I love to support favorite channels by purchasing through their links, but trying to get to British ones is a nightmare. Plus, many brands don’t stock the same items or colors on their US version websites. I spent ages this morning trying to find something I saw on an influencer from M&S, no joy - very typical experience. Thanks, Michelle

    Just watched your video. I'm a 'young' 67 and like to dress fashionably, smart and elegant. The tailored look is more my style (especially when I was working). I wear natural fabrics whenever I can, but two things I struggle with....one, being retired and having a dog, I'm wearing mainly casual clothes. The other problem I have is due to a very painful knee injury (torn medial meniscus) I can't 'walk tall' and with confidence anymore as I'm literally hobbling about. It's very frustrating.

    • @capsuleclosetstylist
      @capsuleclosetstylist  6 дней назад +1

      Hi Hilary, thank you for your comment. Bless you that sounds very uncomfortable. I think more than anything it is more of a metaphor for having confidence in yourself. If you are mainly wearing casual options now to hang out with your dog, maybe look at the recent trend of having tailored looking clothes in comfortable stretchy fabrics that feel like casuals. I know that Halara do some. Take a look at them and see if they are for you, if so you can use the code stylist15 for 15% off.

    For years, I would try to match a bottom and top of similar or same fabrics but not bought as a set, and be upset that the color wasn’t an exact match. SO many blacks; SO many navy’s. Then I discovered that if the fabrics were of a different texture, the slight difference in color didn’t matter. If you are trying for a monochrome look and you are buying the pieces separately; then opt for different textures. It looks like a deliberate choice, rather than an unintentional mismatch.

      It can be yes, I would say take the advice that suits you best. In addition check the experience of the person giving you the advice. There are lots of people giving advice based on simply their own personal preference, which is fine but it does not come from a professional background. If you’re not sure ask them. But yes do what works best for you. I suggest it because it pulls an outfit together and makes it look coordinated.

      Hi Joan,
      Thank you for your comment. I'm sorry my wild sea hair offends you. Living by the sea has its quirks! But seriously, do you wake up with perfect hair every day?
      On a more serious note, why do you feel the need to make nasty, derogatory comments to strangers online?
      You must have been at the hairdressers when the 'just be kind' bus came through town.
      By the way, I always call out comments like this because they're unacceptable. It's a no-go whether they're aimed at me or anyone else. Thank you for the comment, I am off to share this far and wide Giddy Up! 🐴🐴

      I know it’s shocking what some people will come out with hiding behind their keyboards 😊
