Ikea Milsbo and Billy for model storage/display

Ikea added another glass and metal display cabinet to the line in December. www.ikea.com/c...
Check your local website for local prices, but it seems to be about $200usd.
You can either buy the Billy bookcase with the doors already (far more economical) or add them www.ikea.com/c... but you will need two doors for the 31" (79cm) wide version. Or check used goods sites like Kijiji or Craigslist or your best local option.
I haven't done anything with modelling in the last year do to life issues, but I shall be returning once I have cleared the workbench. However, in May I'll be getting my beak broken to deal with a deviated septum and in July a Golden Retriever pup will be arriving, both of which will take me away from modelling.
(For the dog lovers: getting a female and she will be named Talla, a Southern area in Scotland, a water reservoir near Edinburgh, and most personally, the name of the road my grandparents lived on in Glasgow. The breed is Scottish BTW.)
I still haven't figured out Step 28 for the Milsbo glass cabinet (I don't think it is necessary anyway), but it was shockingly easy, considering Im an idiot assembling furniture. Anyways, I love your setup, man!
I was going to buy the MILSBO one since you can regulate the height of the shelves. However , since i need it to put plastic minis and some of them are like 8-10 cm tall, i wanted to add more shelves in it. Do you know if it is possible to order them separately or if is it possible to buy the components?
How many mounting points for additional shelves are there and what would be the spacing between them?
Thanks for sharing. I've got a couple of the IKEA detolf units and have been buying extra perspex shelves and brackets off eBay z to increase storage capacity. I do like the look of the ones you've shown ...trip to IKEA needed asap:)
It will certainly take bigger models and dioramas than the delolf.
Do you know whether you can buy additional shelves and locators for them?

Unfortunately not from Ikea (I am in Singapore, but I suspect the policy is same across the world, but do check with your local Ikea). Worse yet, the side shelf supports are impossible to get so you will have to improvise. I had to get shelves custom made @24 Sing Dollars per shelf.

'Tis well out of my price range for a bit of shelving, but it's certainly a nice one.

No dog, the kids are well trained and I guess you have a modern HVAC system with filters to control dust so you really don't need one. But.... you might convince She Who Must Be Obeyed to let one go in the family room....

Even still, the peace of the household is maintained by me keeping my creep contained in my cave hahaha.

I have one of these but have recently bought some figures that exceed the weight capacity for the Milsbo shelves. Is it possible to modify the weight by purchasing a custom cut toughened glass pane for the shelf or will the frame collapse? lol
Im looking at picking one up but cant find the height between shelves. Can you help me out?

So did it collapse? I bought some premium format figure from sideshow, and I'm wondering if it is safe to put it Ikea say 5 kg and 2 figures weight like 10 kg
i cannot find the answer anywhere..is possible to add more shelves like with the detolf?
If the clips and glass can be found it would be far easier with the milsbo as it has a huge number of possible levels to use, where as with the detolf you'd have to engineer your own way of supporting any extra shelves.

Not sure if I understood correctly but the product page states max load/shelf 5kg. For a cabinet with so much space and depth, 5kg is kinda weak. I bought a white milsbo recently but I do not dare to put too many toy figures on it.
5kg on each shelf. That's their safety rating, which will have a wide margin on it, also if the weight is spread evenly it will take more than 5kg in the center. If you really need more capacity you could replace the provided glass with clear lexan or plexiglass, or with wood.
@@forbeshutton5487 I am in a situation where I am thinking about doing this. I have 2 figures weighing about 10KG each I want to place on the one shelf. If I get a custom cut toughened glass pane do you think the shelf brackets and the frame will hold or is this a really bad idea? Lol

I believe it's around 11-18 Lbs something like that

can you pls post a pic with detail of clip/support? I can't see how shelves are "fixed"
