Learn how to apply a vector texture to a design in Illustrator using an opacity mask (aka transparency mask). You can use a vector texture or a jpg texture image as they both work the same here. I'll show you how to add the texture to your document, to size it and then apply it as a texture to poke holes in your design.

Hi Aprendizz! Check the video at around 0:54 where I group the icecream. If you want to do just the icecream and not the stick then group the bit you want to texture and don't include the bit you don't (the stick). In fact locking down the stick would be a great idea. Then you'll continue with the video and you'll have the result you're looking for.

What if I don’t want transparency mask but just to put text on shape without it being transparent
how can you apply a transparency mask or knockout texture in AI on ipad? i.e. a knockout grunge texture to print vectors on tee shirts allowing the shirts to come through logos. any help appreciated.
I don't use Illustrator on the iPad, so I can't help you (yet). If I find a way to do this, I'll upload a video here. Great question!
After saving my file as an EPS, the portion of the image that is distressed shows through as white instead of transparent. Did I do something wrong? It was transparent on my workspace in Illustrator when I originally created it.
There should be an option when you save as EPS to preserve transparency as it isn't done automatically. When saving look for an EPS Options setting for Transparent and make sure to select it (ie, don't select Opaque). I just tested this and it worked, but I opened the .eps file in Photoshop to make sure that the transparency was maintained.
@@HelenBradley I have always been saving the EPS as Transparent. I followed your video exactly and it's still not saving correctly. I even tried do Alpha Transparency and it still won't work.
