I did a demo of this with people from Apple at my local store. As a person with cerebral palsy, I have to say I love this device! It's important for people to know if you have a vision problem or Motor control issues, you can disable tracking and just use your hands, head and wrist to navigate. If that doesn't work for you because you have no Control of your upper body, Voice control [apples method for controlling your computer entirely by voice) is also in the vision pro. You can enlarge the print size of the entire user interface, so you really can make this work for you if you have physical challenges. If you are blind or you need a screen reader, VoiceOver is also available vision Pro. Hope this helps.

I'm old school, and I remember back in the early 90s to 2000s, people were dropping $5k or higher for a big screen and bose sound system. He'll I remember when people were spending up to 20k on a car sound system.
If the AVP is only 3500, that's way lower than what people paid for in the past. Just saying

I wholeheartedly agree that for now 3D movies are the best use case, they are AMAZING on this thing! I’m slowly warming up to the productivity side, which is video editing, basic communications, and eventually video conferencing. People have to warm up to those avatars though for the latter!

You're my kind of person. I am passionate about all things 3D, whether it's still images, wiggle stereoscopy, cross-eye/parallel viewing methods, 3D movies, etc. The exceptional image quality from the Vision Pro enhances the immersive experience, especially with non-3D images like panorama photos. Currently, I own a mini-projector and an Xreal Air for 3D videos, but configuring them correctly is often cumbersome. The projector requires “no” adjustments to the keystone, even from an angle, impacting the aspect ratio, and the Xreal Air sometimes needs tinkering to function. The Vision Pro simplifies this process, delivering a seamless experience. The added capability of capturing spatial home videos adds an extra layer of sentimentality, especially during family gatherings. I want the Vision Pro, but unless I somehow receive a windfall, I can only imagine.

Also, people make personal 3D videos for me using the Qoocam Ego and it's like I'm there. This type of tech, I feel benefits elderly people finally. I think Apple should do Seniors pricing on this product. Unfortunately, I live in Australia. Otherwise I would go out and buy it tomorrow.

  • @videogamevegas

    Dr Wiggo,
I knew there would be someone LIKE ME who would do a review of the Apple Vision Pro that spoke to my desired use case... 3D MOVIES! This is the main reason I preordered this device. When I bought my first projector to play 3D games on a Playstation 3, it quickly changed to watching 3D movies and hasn't let up since! I pretty much own every 3D Bluray put out and that includes the expensive process of importing ones from other countries.
I currently watch my 3D movies on an ultra short throw projector from Optoma (CinemaX P2) on a 120 inch screen. The projector market has been keeping 3D alive all these years, but getting content is becoming harder and more expensive by the year (I had to import Ant Man Quantummania and Wakanda Forever Blurays from Japan at around $100 a piece).
I've been waiting for another 3D solution that could truly match or beat what I currently have, and the Apple Vision Pro does it in leaps and bounds! Like you mentioned, the price of the Apple Vision Pro is prohibitive for most, but for home 3D enthusiasts who spend a large amount of money to experience 3D at home, it can be compatible. Take the Optoma projector I currently use. I got it on sale, but it was still $3,000. Apple Vision Pro tips that price scale a bit, but upgrades the experience in kind. Disney+ stated that their 3D Library has been upgraded to 4K resolution (I wouldn't be surprised if that was the same for 3D content purchased from the Apple TV App). 3D Bluray, of course, is in 1080p. Also, Apple Vision Pro is OLED... Full stop. My projector, though amazing, doesn't even come close to the fidelity and black levels of an OLED, period. Apple Vision Pro looks to be the ultimate 3D upgrade!
I have one quick question regarding 3D, if you have a moment. In preparation of getting my Apple Vision Pro, I downloaded the Apple TV app on my Windows PC to check out what 3D movies are available. Sadly, I can't find anything 3D using the Windows App. You and others have mentioned that if one purchases a movie in the Apple store, and there is a 3D version available, then you'd get the 3D version at no charge. I saw that The Hobbit Extended Edition Trilogy is in the app store. I own the 3D Blurays of each film I imported from the UK and I wanted to know if they had a 3D version available for the Apple Vision Pro? Have you seen these films, or can you confirm if they do have 3D? I want to make sure before purchasing them (Now, I just hope someday they convert The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy to 3D. I like that even better than The Hobbit) :)
Great time to be a 3D enthusiast! Sure, the cost to entry may be steep, but it always has been in my experience. Thank you for concentrating on the reason I was interested in the Apple Vision Pro!
    Have a great one!
    vgv

An Unexpected Journey and Battle of the Five Armies (regular editions) show up in the 3D section, but oddly not Smaug. So it’s hit or miss. The list keeps growing, though (there are more there now than there were on day one).

      Dr Wiggo,
Thank you for taking the time to answer my question! I forgot they also made 3D versions of the regular editions as well. It sounds like their 3D catalog is going to keep growing and growing. I'm SO EXCITED to see Apple Vision Pro's 3D as you've and others have described it! What a great time!
      Cheers!

    • @andre-le-bone-aparte

      General Estimates From Statista:
      - iPads Sold To Date (2010 to 2023): 589 Million sold.
      - original iPods (no-touch screen, no iOS) 2001 - 2014: 400 Million sold
      - Apple Watch (2015 - 2023): 195 Million sold
How long until Apple sells 100 Million AVP. That is the basic question. And because you've been able to ride the wave of Apple as a pro-user from the beginning, your time and experience are appreciated!

OMG! Bumblebee in 3D!!! Thanks so much for this great video! I absolutely love 3D movies and own many on Bluray including the overpriced Disney Japan imports. I also own an LG 3D TV 1080p and the OLED65E6P (which unfortunately has a burn in). I did a demo at my local apple store yesterday and I was amazed! My only concern is whether I would be able to play the 3D movies that I already purchased that are imports since the US never released those. The price tag is a little too high right now but someday I will own one. Many Thanks for the video!

When watching movies, you need to keep looking at the screen, and click to bring the controls up. It is the same to bring up the connect button on the mac, you have to look at the mac, not where the button is going to be. That connection is still a little wonky, but the connect button shows up for me most of the time. I am using 1.1beta1, but I finally figured out how to get the controls up during movies just before I turned on the betas, I think.

Not worth a video. The early ones were the active glasses (which sucked). And as the prices came down, I’d get bigger ones. So it was like a 55” active replaced by a 65” active and then a 75” active. Then Sony did the passive 4K glasses versions, and I went through a 65” (which I still have) and an 80” but then HDMI improved so I got an 86” LG (which I also still have). And now I have the 120”+ Vision Pro (which does 4K 3D!). Still have like a hundred 3D Blu-rays, too, so that’s another few thousand dollars.

The passthrough can already be better; the cameras on the Varjo XR-4 have up to 20 MPX; whereas, the ones in the AVP have over 6 MPX. The reason for the low PPD of the camera is to have a low latency. The limiting factor here is the R1 chip, which could also be more powerful by today's standards. A lot of the tech on the AVP was set to be the way it is in 2019; that was the year the AVP was to be launched, but it was delayed for further optimization, and then you can't just switch components; that's why, for instance, there's no option to get the M3 series, despite the obvious advantages. There are a lot of reasons for that from established contracts, logistics, etc.

That it’s older technology makes it more impressive. But I want better.

Apple did that because it doesn’t want to consume a gazillion watts of power and need liquid nitrogen to cool and a 5lbs battery to power it
M3 is more power, but only marginally more power efficient, hence not worth further delay

Yes, but if you do it as a reply I may not see it (RUclips doesn’t always notify me of replies, but does comments.)

@@DrWiggo So I know you are near retirement, so for you this might seem less of an issue. As a younger person biometrics, especially an iris scanner, is the most dystopian and terrifying thing here, but its so dressed up in fun and games no one is talking about it. For starters, passwords get hacked, and we can change them. What happens that day that the eye scans leak and hackers start authenticating with false contacts, silicone fingertips and ai voice changers? Do people people change their eyes or fingertips or get plastic surgery to use their devices if they are ever compromised? And what happens in a world where someone does steal that data when biometrics is the only mainstream method to get a bank account or even authenticate a transaction, or get an email address? Does a person get locked out of society forever, or do they now have to implant authentication into their body at that point? Eye scanning for a toy is a dangerous precedent for people who have to live with where this is all headed for the rest of our lives.

@@DrWiggo I guess to simplify my question, are you comfortable with a company, a government, or anyone watching you 24 7 with a LiDAR scanner and watching the every twitch of your pupils just to watch a movie? And what happens when Apple makes this authentication feature mandatory for Apple Pay, and the rest of society follows suit as they always do? This whole thing seems like such a slippery slope. It’s looks incredible, but I don’t trust the virtue of the government’s Apple works with. Apple turned their protesting workforce into the gov in China to be “disappeared” and they work with some scary US departments as well. To give them our facial data, iris scans, fingerprints, and voice imprints now makes them the most effective intelligence agents on earth. Then add the scenario of a data breach of our biometrics, and some as shenanigans, and this all seems very creepy. To have to scan your eyes and face to watch tv is not ideal or necessary. Does this feel somewhat Orwellian to anyone else?

@@ghost-user559 If it were Meta, no way. That's why I will never buy a Meta product. But we pay Apple more upfront so they won't sell our data. Besides, like you say, I'll be dead before the dystopian stuff gets too deep.

Yes, Apple HAS indeed reinvented the display, with AR spatial tabs. However, I do think that in order for it to be a truly great product, there have to be many use cases, including gaming, and without peripheral vision being taken care of, the Apple Vision Pro cannot even hope to deliver a truly immersive experience that is needed to break new ground in the VR space. This makes it a less than great product, which is not something worth spending over $1500 on. You cannot say you didn’t know about pricing, either. I said very plainly, the first success of these types of products won’t look anything like what Zuckerberg has brought to market, AND, I said these types of products have all failed, and if you cannot get the price down, you will fail like all the others. There is a fundamental lack of substance and its massive cost in the way of being, by definition, a successful product.
    You get NOTHING! YOU LOSE!
