  • Montmartre`s "Gezer"again demonstrates his brilliant draughtsmanship with this sensitive black and white sketch of a child.
    This superb portrait is executed with the confidence and economy of touch of a veteran though G is one of the place du tertre`s youngest portraitists.

    I find this style one of the bests, so simple yet so beautiful. The strokes of the sketch are perfects, the proportions, everything.
    This is way better, in my very opinion, than Hiper realism.

    Very nice! For the beginning 3 minutes or so, you cannot tell that the portrait is of a child, but as soon as the left cheek, ear and chin are first lined it, it becomes no doubt that this is a youngster. The lack of strokes needed to perfectly render the jacket is insane. So much detail in so few strokes.
    True talent.

      I agree.Children are so difficult to get right. "So much detail in so few strokes."...less is more.

    @ArthurVuksake Sorry this reply is late.Thank you for the kind and positive feedback.
    My aim is to show-case as many of the best artists of the place du tertre as possible.There are some ace draughtsmen I haven`t even filmed yet.The problem is finding time to film my colleagues(there is a minimum of one little masterpiece drawn at the place du tertre everyday)and at the same time draw my own clients.
    the peak season is over though,so there should be more time for vids with commentaries soon!

    @dwardu92 Gabor uses canson.
    Ingres paper has a very distinctive linear grain,which some artists prefer.

    The thing I don't understand is how he gets the proportion correct without any measuring or underlying sketch. Everywhere I learned to measure everything because without it you can easily mess up the whole face. It really throws the picture off if for example the mouth is too small.. Does it come down to experience solely? And of course he captures the likeness the way I have never been able to but being 19 ys old I think I have time to improve. Good to see a Hungarian artist here :)

    • @DavyLimvideos
      @DavyLimvideos  7 лет назад +5

      He gets it right because he commits himself from the first touch...he takes it from there....the first statements are so strong;it is easier to "see" if the following calculations are incorrect.
      If they DO NOT feel right,the artist has no hesitation ..he will use the eraser.The conclusion is this: the more courageous you are the easier it becomes to really "see" your drawing and whether or not you are getting the proportions right.A timid start will result in a timid ,bland end product.

    I stumbled across your channel yesterday and spent all night watching you videos, they are truly inspirational and the respect you pay to the artists through the choice of music or your commentaries makes the videos all the more magical, thank you very much for uploading these. I would however, like to see more of your own portraits presented like this, from what i've seen you are an incredible artist too. I also love the commentaries if you could do more of them! :D

    Again, Davy, BRILLIANT video!! And what a talented artist you're featuring. I wish I could say to you that I've had enough of the vids you post, but the fact of the matter is that I check subscriptions almost daily to see if you have new videos posted. THANK YOU for not disappointing:0) This is arguably my FAVORITE channel!

    @shysterlicious There is more pigmentation,more wax and less filler in polychrome
    pencils than normal coloured pencils,hence the richer,deeper blacks that can be
    obtained when pressure is applied with polychrome...more difficult to erase though!

    @heirihunziker Most of the artists at the square use either canson or ingres.I always assumed Gabor used the smooth(er) side of canson,but your question has raised some doubts,especially as Gabor is a bit of an artistic maverick,(which is why I like him)...I'll get back to you on this one as soon as G is back in town(probably easter.)

    Davy-
    Is their a significant difference between a black polychromos pencil and, say, a black Caran d'Ache colored pencil?

    @yvadmil Just wanted to say that its great what you are doing here, showcasing such amazing artists. I am myself aiming for a career in art.
    I wanted to ask regards the paper they use because i love the texture it provides for the portraits. So is it INGRES/Canson Pastel paper or some other type?

    Art is like this; on the first stage you're so thirsty that you drink it so fast.on 2nd stage you're still drinking as fast as possible but this time you start to taste it. 3rd stage, you don't even know why you're still drinking because you're not thirsty anymore!

    • @DavyLimvideos

      This is the place du tertre in the Montmartre area of Paris.Many Impressionist artists worked in this area,where rents were cheap.Picasso had his first studio in Montmartre.Today many artists work in the square which is a kind of open air art studio.
