I have the green santos watch and believe me if you have issues with the power reserve, I suggest you getting your watch checked by Cartier’s Service Centre. I faced the same issue and it turns out that the power reserve was the main culprit. My replacement watch works well and ticks on for 48 hrs.
I have a Cartier Tank XL which I purchased in May 2022 uses the same movement at your Cartier Santos and my piece does NOT have the issues you described. I wld sent it back to Cartier for a warranty issue.
Great video. I have the two tone medium. Overall I love the watch. The only thing I really dislike is the fact that they use a synthetic sapphire spinel on a $10k watch. Only the solid gold pieces get the genuine spinel. I would have preferred just a solid steel crown.
Thank you! Awesome review. And to me, you ended it most appropriately, beautiful thought for a beautiful watch- yes this life brings scratches inside and outside just like the bezel. Scars can reveal character and absolutely be beautiful.
I have a Santos 100 model W20121U2, with the black rubber bezel, lumed hands, and rubber strap, and I love it. I get 42 hours+ from the power reserve if I let it sit after a full wind. I don’t have the jumping minute hand issue, but if I let it run down, I do usually have to pull the crown out to the set position and push it back in to get the watch going after hand winding.
Funny how you mention “having the lume to read the time during a movie”😄 because frankly, that is pretty much the only place I usually need lume to read the time because anywhere else you can usually hold your watch somehow to get just enough ambient light to read it
concerning the movement: when it runs out of power give it first some gentle shaking. Should help. Mine goes +3sec per day, so not bad. When I used to wear it constantly, it lost +1sec in a month, yes you heard right. but at the end of the day it's a Cartier, and one can enjoy the timeless design, wearability without the bling bling. Cheers
I believe that the Santos winding issue is a feature of the watch that disengages the crown from the mechanics of the watch to prevent damage if there is any shock to the crown. On my Santos, after I give it a few turns, winding engages just fine.
@@Philtalkswatchesandmorenot relevant to the santos, but when I wind up my Rolex Explorer and old Explorer 2, the seconds hand doesn’t start moving until I give the watch a little shake. No big deal, it runs just fine after.
Same here. I went to the Cartier center and they told me that my watch "needed maintenance" worth 300 dollars every year. WTF. What kind of "luxury" is this. I have enough things that need "maintenance" already and it's plain foolish to have to add a "luxury" watch to the list.
I believe the minutes hand jumps to match the exact time in accordance with your seconds hand. That's why you get approx half minute jump as your second hand is already at '30.
That’s interesting. I was going to say that mine does not jump like that when I push in the crown. But I always set the time with the seconds hand hacked at 0 because I’m OCD. So maybe that is it.
Strongly considering this as my next purchase. But the small one in two tone. I’m a little bothered about the power reserve being less than advertised, but setting a watch with no date is no biggie
Agree with the issues/reliability of the movement. My 1.5yrs old Santos died on me and no longer winds via winding the crown or shaking it. Sent it in today for repairs under warranty. Hope it’s just a QC issue that will be resolved. The saving grace is the watch comes with 8 years warranty. Nonetheless, it’s a beautiful watch with a great history and I will be keeping it in my collection.
Like you say I prefer the blue sword hands more than the lumed hands! 🙌 more classic and authentic. (But again choose what you wish everyone has a personal opinion)
My crown was loose straight from the box, didn't notice it until I get home from the boutique. The crown couldn't wind the power, it was just loose. Sent it back to claim warranty, they wouldn't admit their fault, they just wrote "regular servicing" lmao
Great watch , I just got Large Blue Dial in Japan while on vacation for a great price . I did think it was broken because it didn’t engage and start running when I adjusted the time . Lol
Tried on multiple times in different countries and boutiques. Hand action feels like a 20$ watch. Could never take seriously again and turned me off. Compare to Rolex, Omega even a Tissot and I found it so poor and cheap feel in comparison in relation to this point.
People tend to neglect/forgive this aspect since it’s a “Cartier”. But in my eye the brand is a true watch maker, issues like these should be easily fixed.
In its entry for the word “often,” Webster's New World College Dictionary lists two correct pronunciations -- one with a T sound and one without. That tells you that both pronunciations as correct.
Bought an XL during my last trip to Tokyo. It’s a beautiful & elegant timepiece 🤍 and I love how easy it is to switch out the bracelet. Thanks for a great review!

Hmm let me consider it.
Btw the green dial is an absolute beauty !

Tremendous review. Magnificent piece that every horology fan should pay homage.

I know right !
Some poetry in your last sentences. Love it ❤

Let me try that. Thanks man!
That’s highly accurate 😱
Absolutely! This watch is really an icon done right 💯
This is the best of fifty reviews.
Thank you! Really appreciate it.

That sounds sensible but mine doesn’t always engage like that.
@@Philtalkswatchesandmore strongly suggest taking it in for service. If a few winds doesn't engage the movement, your watch is broken.
It starts running when I shake it a little, without having to adjust the crown.. hmmm
@@Philtalkswatchesandmorenot relevant to the santos, but when I wind up my Rolex Explorer and old Explorer 2, the seconds hand doesn’t start moving until I give the watch a little shake. No big deal, it runs just fine after.
Yep. Just that it’s the first time I come across it. 😅 thanks for your advice man!
I stopped using my Santos because needed constant rewinding . Such a Nuissance. But yes, a beautiful watch.

Interesting. I’ve never heard of that before

Yep! It’s even easier since it has a push pull crown instead of a screw down.
I own this one and really enjoy it. Fantastic timeless design.
Absolutely 💯
I have this watch. My only complaint is the smart link and quick release scare the crap out me because I don’t know how durable they are
At that price I won’t accept a flawed movement no matter how long the history is. Thank you for sharing!❤
Totally understand that ! I hope Cartier will fix it too.
Yet everyone turns a blind eye to Rolex's movement issues
@@ALL-il1sw not having a Rolex in my current collection 🤣
I own the same watch and I have no issues with the movement. It’s as solid as my Explorer.

Yep! Glad they come with a long enough warranty.
Are you Flaver Flav, but the medium version would be better for your tiny wrist
Thank you Sir. I enjoyed it. What a beautiful watch.
Thank you!
a great looking watch for sure, but i find your issues highly concerning for the price of the watch!
I totally understand. I’m bringing it up since no body really mentioned about these issues.
Hope they will fix them in future iterations!
Hi Phil, I’m new to your channel. Santos is my always target but…… Anyways good review, thanks
I’ve always loved my two tone bracelet and yes it’s right up there with my VC Overseas and AP Royal Oak bracelets….and the watches are great as well!
Your collection is 🔥 mate!
it has NO Micro adjustment at all. so when you're wrist swells up you're not going to be interchanging links when you're out and about.
Excellent review. I'm now interested in a Cartier.
Congratulations! 😎
Like you say I prefer the blue sword hands more than the lumed hands! 🙌 more classic and authentic. (But again choose what you wish everyone has a personal opinion)
I would suggest at 12months old Cartier should look at your watch.
I personally would love lumed hands and no date. But they don’t offer what I want.

That’s crazy lmao seems like Cartier needs some more work on the QC department
@@Philtalkswatchesandmore good news is it was all sorted, and I got to learn that these things can happen. I totally didn't expect this at all haha
Did Alberto ask for a Cabochon Stone on the Crown of Santos or was Cartier playing as King Louis XVIII? Well?
It’s a tad bit too big for your wrist imho, you should definitely consider the medium.🤔Is it me or the hands look way too skinny ?
I generally like bigger watches….on my way to the gym 🥲
That’s awful. I was excited about purchasing a Santos. Even trading my Rolex DJ 36 for one 😳 I’ve had no issues with any of my Rolex pieces. 😖
I think it’s still a great watch worth having! Do give it a try on wrist first.👍🏻
Great review. Watch really suits you
Thanks for watching. I appreciate that!
Excellent. Watching from Espresso house, vacation day 26.
What’s on your vacation wrist ? 😏
Does minute hand jumping always because mine has that even my omega
Which model is your omega? My smp300 has no issue at all.
Going for the medium version. Also in the classic white. Without a date. I rather have the roman VI instead. 🙂
Perfectly fair 👌🏻
Could it be that your watch is faulty, i think the 1847 MC is their workhorse, this is the first time a see those issues
Could be. I’ll bring it back to Cartier sooner or later.
I have the large in two tone and i dont have the issues witht he movement that youre describing
from the sound of it when i swivel the watch in my hand the winder seems to be unidirectional
How is the accuracy of timekeeping of this watch?
Mine gains about 6 seconds per day as mentioned in the video .
Give this a ceramic or somehow scratch resistant bezel and screwdown crown and its perfect.
The Santos came out last year has kind of a scratch proof bazel. I’m sure Cartier is listening somewhere haha
@@Philtalkswatchesandmore I don't like the look of the model. But it's a good 1st step
Same!
Great watch , I just got Large Blue Dial in Japan while on vacation for a great price . I did think it was broken because it didn’t engage and start running when I adjusted the time . Lol
Haha congrats mate!
Is it ok now ?
I love mine
Quality

I bought this watch recently and I hate it.
No sound "t" on "often" word! ):
Thanks for enduring my ugly accent 🥶

The hands are unfortunately ridiculously small 🤔
Never realised it until now lol
Cartier Santos. AKA the ultimate Scratch Magnet. AKA the Disappearing Value Cartier.
And I still love it!
