Down here in Austin, they mostly enforce stuff like keeping your garbage bin out of site, fixing damaged pickets on your fence, and keeping your yard in reasonable shape (tough in drought years).
I had a bad experience with a condominium HOA here in California. They had unreasonable rules that didn't apply to board members that lived in the community. There isn't enough room here for me to write all the crazy stuff they required. I would not buy a home where I'm not allowed to park a vehicle in good running condition in my driveway or can't have the garage door open for more than two hours. Those are flat out unreasonable rules and even a safety hazard in some instances. Yes, let's use government to limit this kind of tyranny to maximize the benefits of an HOA and limit the negatives of the current HOA's in Boise. Thanks for this video, Benj and giving us the real scoop on HOA's in the TV. 👍👍👍
My family and I visited from Los Angeles last summer and we were AMAZED how clean the parks were especially the bathrooms. I thought it was clean enough to eat off of! Also, how well kept and nice the neighborhoods were. I immediately knew most of the neighborhoods were HOA and definitely wouldn't mind having that in this case. We hope to move to Boise someday to get away from this toxic state of CA.
Great video Benj! I was wondering if it is possible for an HOA to legally enforce a “mask mandate” or other similar type of law? I disagree with such laws but I’m curious how some HOA’s dealt with that bs.
No, they can’t make new laws, so they wouldn’t be able to do anything like that. Their only ‘jurisdiction’ relates to the real estate of the neighborhood.
Time to analyze just exactly who are the HOA board members are, and specifically WHERE they moved from; I bet that many are former Californians who expect to carry on their previous ways as they did in the sewer.

Just leave the toxic politics of the left behind you when you do!
Love the humor part too! Caught me off guard. Informative for sure.

@@BenjForeman Good to know. Thanks Benj! 👍🏻
I’m buying a Hubble home that has a 20% rental limit. Little worried in case I need to rent my home in the future.
