He was always a "capable artist," flower boy is beautiful, but his previous works were also prodigious and shouldn't be dismissed-I think they were just as "emotionally honest," he was just a different person in a different place, rapping to purge and use humor to deal with the absurdities & difficulties of life
Bastard is a solid, good album. The fact that it's dismissed as 'edgy' and 'rough' is incredibly stupid. He was rapping his ass off throughout and the profane, dark humor was part of a concept tied in to the album that people would only get if they got over that dumbass bias. However Flowerboy to CMIYGL was an orgasmic experience.
Everyone has IGOR as the number 1 album, for me it’s Flower Boy, because it’s the first time that Tyler really opened up and see his potential als a producer and really let his maturity and creative mind go. I also really love IGOR for the whole storytelling of the album and the more hip-hop focussed album. But everytime I hear the dreamy synths with a big focus on his own life and his own thoughts. I’ll simply stick until the end. Every single time.
@@deeleoGot Igor Number 1. I love Flower Boy but I don’t think the album ends the best even though Ive been replaying this more than Igor because of Garden Shed.
@@tobyokafor6069 you may not think it’s good, but it does give a great insight to why he was always saying things to be “controversial” and is one of his more emotional albums if you look deeper than the surface. and it appears the album was about his way of expressing his feelings is different then others, so it’s perceived as shocking and profane
this was one of the best deep-dives into flower boy that i've ever seen. the connection between who dat boy, pothole and garden shed is one i never saw but now makes so much sense
I recommend you listen to the dissect podcast. It goes track by track and analyzes the lyrics, the themes and the music theory of this album. I other seasons include frank ocean, Kanye and Kendrick. If you like this you will absolutely love dissect.
Flowerboy changed my life, the juxtaposition of cars (a very "masculine" thing) and flowers (a very "femenine" thing) is amazing. Defying the heteronormative world, this album expanded queer identities. Thank you sooo much for this video, keep the hard work :)
@@ARALONLINE They put masculine in quotes, as cars have stereotypically been seen in the past as masculine. Then right after it they say how the addition of flowers to the album helps to defies both the original notion of car "masculinity", and flower "femininity". These are things that a "feminist" that you speak about would agree with. I assume that someone that you're describing would agree with breaking heteronormative expectations as both this and feminism are forward thinking, equality based ideas. ("Liberal" ideas one could say)
I'm surprised Middle Eight didn't tackle the emotional and musical growth of all Odd Future members from Earl to Tyler to even Hodgy Beats. How OFWGKTA had to separate in order to grow up on their own.
Flower Boy feels so different to all of Tyler's album. It's where Tyler explains who he is as a person, he went from edgy and scary to an emotional god.
Love the editing on this vid, the simple yet very artistic and colorful edits are amazing, you've been steadily improving and it's absolutely incredible, keep it up man!
Yes! This is why Flower Boy has such a special place in my heart. It's not my favourite album in terms of the songs it has (although 911 is my 2nd favourite Tyler song), but man am I grateful for it's existence!
I’ve been saying that flower boy is Tyler’s most important album it’s what kept him relevant and more mainstream, if he didn’t drop flower boy and just another decent to mediocre album he wouldn’t be mainstream or as popular more underground. All though I believe Igor and call me if you get lost are better. This album is still a 9 and his most important. And this album paved ways for him to have 2 number 1 albums and a Grammy.
This was the álbum that got me into him I was in high school when Goblin came out and I thought he was lame and a try Hard. Once he opened up emotionally, it reached likeable heights
Same! My friends been bumping Tyler for ageeeesssss and it just never really clicked with me until he put out flowerboy. That being said now that I’m a big fan of Tyler I’ve gone back to his earlier music and I do enjoy it, or at least some of the songs but new Tyler is Definitly the best
I remember hearing about him when I was younger but he seemed to edgy and weird for me at the time lol. Then flower boy came out as soon as I got out of high school when my friend would play him in the car and I was like damn, I’ve been missing out on him for years. I will say that I’m not a huge fan of most of his works before flower boy with an exception of a few songs. But also most everything flower boy and after has been so great to me.
Man i wish i got into him in his early career tbh, but i just like to think i wasnt really a music head back then and been really clueless about its industry. I just got into tyler in igor and im a huge fan of him now and he made me actually listen and follow music XD
I feel like Flower Boy is its own art project but it also acts as a perfect threshold for Igor, like if he dropped another album like Cherry Bomb or Wolf or Goblin and then dropped Igor it would be a lotttt different because in this album it shows the more emotional side of him. And on IGOR he does that but he shares a lot more. The two just go so well together
I listened to this album for the first time in my freshman year of high school in 2017. It was my introduction to tyler and i loved it. Its an album ive been playing ever since it came out. I know the lyrics and tunes by heart. But for some reason, I felt I never really understood what it meant. I always thought see you again was a kind of love song and the meaning of november and other songs were always kind of murky. Recently, Ive been dealing with trying to like myself and be better talking to people and a lot of the time I feel like I’m not good enough. I just relistened to this album today and at the end of enjoy right now, today, i started crying. I loved this album before, maybe for the production and the melodies of the songs. but i love it even more now. this is such a beautiful album man wow
To those who found the narrative in this album interesting, I can’t recommend Dissect Season 4 enough. Great podcast where the host goes in depth into every song in this album and talks about a lot of the themes and cool aspects that Tyler brought with Flower Boy. Highly recommend!
Garden Shed will always stay one of my favorite songs of Tylers if not one of my favourite songs in general just because of the impact it and the whole flower boy album had on me in my self discovery phase and my sexuality, it got me to accept who i am and feel good about it and that one day when im ready, coming out wont be so scary.
Tyler is brilliant to me one of the most artistic artist in the world, I didn’t know he was in the lgbtq community but glad he could talk about it on one of his best albums.
This is probably one of the most important albums for me personally, like it helped me so much with my sexuality, i listened to it hundreds of times, i have this shit on vinyl, it's so meticulously crafted. T actually put into words and beautifully made metaphors what me and a lot of other queer people feel, garden shed has me crying literally everytime. This video is incredible, thank you so much for it
It would be really interesting to see if you did a review/commentary on Rihann’s Anti album (R8) which was her final album before she went on an extremely long hiatus. It’s considered her Magnus Opus and many critics have praised it for it’s sound and very Anti-Rihanna vibe. Not to mention that the song Work is very looked upon as the revival of dancehall music in mainstream music.
Crazy editing, crazy design and on top of that, as english is not my native language, you gave me a new interpretation of this album that I already liked so much. Thanks for the great work !

Throughout Tyler’s albums, he always created and played characters. Flower boy feels like the only album truly about him.

CMIYGL is a very truthful album as well
@@homelessharry336 yep

Cherry Bomb- In a cocoon (metamorphisis)
Flower Boy -Butterfly
IGOR- Bloom!
CMIYGL- "swag".😂
