Dylan, greetings in the name of the Lord! I bought a '77 full time 4 wheel drive long bed extra cab in mid 90s for $1700. PO used it to commute (!) everyday between Albuquerque and Santa Fe at 12mpg. The 3 speed automatic failed but I had it rebuilt. 400ci 2bbl. I replaced the engine with one from a New Yorker. Eventually replaced the transfer case. That truck hauled everything to build my house. I could never do donuts because of full time 4 wheel drive. However, no matter the road conditions, all you had to do was point the wheels where you wanted to go. Last I know it was still running some place on the Navaho reservation near the Four Corners. This video bring back lots of good memories of the big blue elephant, as my wife called it. I put Champion's on my 318 and a Mopar distributor. Like a bolt of lightnin' to the engine. I broke 1 plug on accident when I dropped it and had to get a replacement. Funnily enough the Super Champions for my 318 are considered by 3 auto part store chains as "factory performance part...not for sale." Nothing special but I thought that was funny
Great video Dylan. I had a 75 D100 with a 318. Same rusted hood, bad paint in the 70's. Lots of fond memories of that truck. Fun to see the 77 come to life. Thanks.
My Boss has one around the same age. It has 89k miles on it. It's a Shortbox and has been sitting since 2004. It's a really clean truck. Super small amount of rust on the box.
I once had an 80 D150 with a 318 in the same color scheme. If I remember correctly the middle strips is called teal sunfire metallic. My dad bought it and it was more of a base model but it was a good truck. My dash looked the same but it had a rubber floor mat instead of carpet. Your truck is bringing back some good memories.
Sending sincere apologies for our roads here in Missouri, the best stretch of road we have is Hwy 54 from Jefferson City to Lake of the Ozarks. They resurface it every 3-5 years whether it needs it or not.
Love the long bed Dodge's. I had a 73 D-100 with a 318 and I wish I still had it. The bed rotted out so I put a wooden bed on it because a long bed was hard to find. It seemed the cab was really wide, 3 adults could sit quite comfortable on the bench seat. That 77 is nice!
My grandpa has a 78 just like that but black with red down the sides with 318., my dad had a 79 with slant 6 so that got me to love these. Then later in my teenage years I bought a 77 power wagon w200 with 318 and all time 4x4 that I loved but it was a Michigan truck that made it down to where I live in Southern Indiana and I got it but she was rusty badly and nothing was savable back then and I sadly sold it.
We had a Ram that was that same color green; I think ours was a 79 or so? My uncle originally purchased it from the Florida forestry service, along with three others, he made two working ones out of the four and gave us one. The other two had cracked engine blocks. Definitely had amber signal lights up front, but I know that green color. Eventually a local Chrysler dealership owner bought it from my dad in...I think it was '95 or so, totally restored it, but he repainted the exterior white, which was odd. It was one of three Mopar we had when I was a kid; we had a '79 pickup (silver with black interior), and a '73 charger (beige with gold interior). Never had any of them new, they were always used.
You can tell Dylan is one of just guys that’s just a genuinely nice guy and is automatically friends with everyone he meets. Also, would love to see a complete tear down and rebuild on that engine. Maybe do a series on the drive train on that sucker to get her road worthy.
That starter sound! My aunt had a 1977 Ramcharger with a 4bbl 360 that I loved driving. It was a pretty long step up since it didn't have running boards...LOL.
If plugs are fouled, leave them in, or just take them out to keep them from seizing, and advance the timing until one of 4 things happens. 1) you hear spark knock. 2) it diesels after shutting off. 3) it cranks slower when it fires because it is trying to fire backwards. 4) it idles slower when you advance it more, rather than faster. Then see if the plugs run hot enough to self clean, at least the insulator tips, with the advanced timing. You can also burn soot off of plugs with a propane torch to clean them.
It's been my experience over the years where a lot of the old dodge trucks that rotted across the top of the windshield have cab lights.I live in Western,NY.The only ones I owned without that rot had no cab lights.
Thanks to where I live, both the body and undercarriage of my "nearly identical" D200 version of this truck are essentially free of rust. It has exactly the same color combination and trim level but with the slightly fancier "SE" cloth and vinyl bench seat, that's also in excellent condition. It's almost entirely free of dents, dings, scrapes, and scratches "even inside the box" as it was primarily used to carry an oversized camper by means of folding down the tailgate and extending the extendable rear bumper. The OEM "Light Green Poly" paint is still good, but I've got to reshoot the "Medium Green Sunfire poly" on the hood, the tops of both doors, and the tops of both fenders.
Being from North Alabama and as someone who travels for work constantly, I have to agree that Tennessee does indeed have some of the best roads. We’re jealous of you guys.
Sounds like you've got an awesome find there, Dylan. The more I watch your channel, the more my appreciation for classic trucks grows. Keep up the good work!
Dylan , I think it’s gotten to the point that your channel will need a charter flight to make the old start / cold start and rescue videos happen more efficient . Hey , if you can PM Derek , I definitely think there is a market for quality button down shirts as they will bring much luck to exploit and misadventures while getting jobs done . Lots of luck with this long bed mopar . The sheet metal is almost straight but the grille is nice . Reminds me of a short bed dodge slant six I got started for a guy once . We got it home just barely , misadventures not withstanding . Then proceeded to spend money on it . Of course the guy sold it , enough said there . That light blue short bed looks real respectable . Looking forward to more 👍
I am in love with that dashboard! The auto captions think the engine noise is clapping or laughter when it's missing and say it's music when it starts running right! Ha!
Had a bunch of these, they're great trucks! Fav was a 1974 Sno-Fiter. There was a Sno-Commander too but the Fiter was extra heavy duty, super low gearing even for a Power Wagon. Both came stock with snowplow packages. You couldn't beat these trucks in the deep snow, I plowed in Buffalo for years, love these trucks, and anything else Dodge too, ...of course.
i had a 77 ford f150 for my first vehicle. rust had torn up a back corner of the bed, everytime it hit a bump it squeaked so we called it "mouse" 300 i6 with 3 on the tree. had to patch whole floor on driver's side. 300K plus on the clock. It was a POS but it was mine and i loved it. Last i heard of it it was going up to Canada towing a boat and a 4wheeler in the bed. The folks didn't want me to go 30 mi from home in it XD

That looks like a Holly 2 Barrel. I got one out of a junkyard truck for my 78 D-200. Need to rebuild it and put it on. Its bigger than the Cater 2 barrel that is currently on the truck.
Very cool Dylan. That old Dodge needed the soot blown off the top of pistons. When you were doing those doughnuts. I have seen some RUclipsrs spay a boatload of PB Blaster in the spark plugs and it cleaned a bunch of junk out. Love your 97 Dodge. I would love to find something similar in a 4x4.
I have a 78 custom d 150 with factory tach in dash long bed also love the truck the hood lach is different spot also on 78 you wouldn't happened to have a dash pad for sale
I only clean carbs manually if it doesn't run at all. If it does, I put detergents and water emulsifiers in the fuel and run it badly until it clears up. If that doesn't work, it usually is not dirt, though it just might be a type of clog that is insoluble, like small rocks.
Years ago we had a 1968 Blue Bird Motor Home with a heavy duty Dodge 318 in it. The exhaust manifold had a crack in it so my Dad try to weld it but it didn't hold to well. So after that we looked and looked and looked for another manifold. We looked in every junkyard in the four state area (Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas) for another manifold, but we couldn't find one anywhere; But I noticed that manifold on your truck looks like the manifold we were looking for. Your manifold might have fit our engine maybe?

I’ve had my eye on a truck exactly like this (even the marker lights on the sides) but it’s gray and red. And for a Pennsylvania truck, minimal rust.
Being from North Alabama and as someone who travels for work constantly, I have to agree that Tennessee does indeed have some of the best roads. We’re jealous of you guys.
I love building old trucks but the Dodge has to be my favorite. Oh ya, Barq's root beer is my favorite with A&W a close second.
Can’t wait to see what the future holds for “Forest “!! Nice video Dylan
I'm sat here loving the tow truck. That is a lovely clean bit of kit 👍
Looking forward to more 👍
It's straight, except for the rust.
Which there is much
I am in love with that dashboard!
Glad you enjoyed our Illinois roads. Had an 84 D100. I watched this, and now I'm mortified that I sold it.
Yeah one of my tires blew out on the interstate a while back and I still get worried. Definitely understand all the tire checks.
I've got the same motor in my Ram, never fails me. All the same rust spots of yours too. Great stuff brother!
23:43 I can hear Cleetus yelling "freedom freedom freedom!" When you let those bald eagles fly
i had a 77 ford f150 for my first vehicle. rust had torn up a back corner of the bed, everytime it hit a bump it squeaked so we called it "mouse" 300 i6 with 3 on the tree. had to patch whole floor on driver's side. 300K plus on the clock. It was a POS but it was mine and i loved it. Last i heard of it it was going up to Canada towing a boat and a 4wheeler in the bed. The folks didn't want me to go 30 mi from home in it XD
Iowa!! My home state! I've got a 74 long bed, and a 77 w150 club cab 4 speed I'm restoring the 74 frame off and the 77 is just an amazing rig. Keep up the cool videos man
I miss the '73 I had way back when. It had a 360 with the same 2 barrel and it was dialed in! That old W200 didn't look it but it could embarrass some who underestimated it. Good times.
hey Dylan im from the future the 411 is you make it home young man. Godspeed!!!!......
Back in the 70s I wouldn't have dared put that much punishment on a Dodge. They didn't look tough enough. I was wrong. Nice vid Dylan. Keep 'em coming. Looking forward to see how this truck performs after you shine it up a bit more.
That environment befor donuts is amazing
And drifting is so satisfying at least for me
Plz dont give up till you got rusty
I only seen one Forest Green body also Interior same was my one Late Uncle Ray had 1978 GMC Scottdale High Serria 25 type 3/4 ton single door cab truck with 350 V8 4bbl, Turbo 400 Automatic transmission with 3 speed , 411 Rear end gears , Power Steering plus Brakes , Am/ FM radio with Antenna on front window plus Slide rear window, green bug deflector on front hood plus spare tire to had Dog Dish 950/16.5 LT Load Range D Good Year Rims too and West Coast mirrors too!
Ready to see what the challenger is looking like 💪
i had a 78 power wagon 360 , didn't wanna plow snow for sure , i ended rolling it on a cold snowy night here in PA that was the last Mopar i owned
Love it i have a 80s plymouth blue d100 v6 and a white 93 i wanna say d150 with a 318 love them both
That red ram is beautiful. We don't see many in good shape here.
My grandfather had one of those trucks exactly like that one in the 90s
Mine too! Ext cab in 2 tone brown
Watching this video and the junkyard digs at the same time on two devices.
Ah yes this is big brain time
That smile though! Who needs a drift car when there’s an open field and an old truck? 🙌🏼🕺🏼
Forest goes pretty good. Richard Holdner has a great video on a 75 360 2bbl build and Dyno for his tradesman van. Made good streetable power
Haha you came right through my neck of the woods. Good old southern IL
I just picked up a 72 4 by 4 Avenger with the green interior it's got all that beautiful Chrome just like yours on the doors that window you name it
NICE!! I have a 74 powerwagon thats been just sitting in my yard for 20 years that I REALLY got to get on, and get her going. More rusty then that though.
Dylan tells how rare and fully optioned the car is, laterz throws the truck around on the field with a big smile on face :D thats great :D
That looks like a Holly 2 Barrel. I got one out of a junkyard truck for my 78 D-200. Need to rebuild it and put it on. Its bigger than the Cater 2 barrel that is currently on the truck.
pb blaster is awesome!!! i used it to free a stuck lawn mower engine....runs mint now
Very cool Dylan.
I got two 1979 Dodges. Ones a Powerwagon W150 318 auto and the other is a D100 Slant 6 auto.
I see it came with the optional mosquito fogger, handy to have in the south! Sounds like Christine running on four cylinders.
Hey Dylan I got anv84 with 2000 miles only its been sitting for many years all intact ac cruis tilt its a 150se prospector no rust
My son had a Fender Precision bass also named Clifford. It is of course a big red bass.
Great video Dylan!!! I love that you and your dad works on projects together!!! It reminds me of my dad and me working on my first car together ( 74 Satellite that’s where I was but by the mopar bug 😂). Always remember projects come and go but the memories you make will last forever again thanks for the video!!!!!!
I have a question guys I bought a 1986 dodge van b250 extended cargo van sat for 11 years it's on my channel my question is did they come with a posi? It's 5 lug not 8 so as far as dodges I'm lost but I'm in total love with this van everything works after sitting all tht time it sounds great
Smoke Is COOL ...I had a 1974 Chevy Vega station wagon back in 1984...That thing went through a quart of oil ever 45 miles .my oil light start flashing. I run into the part store and pick up a quart of Castrol oil for $0.35 a quart ..Dump it in and ' YEEEEEEEEE HAW " I was back on my way down the highway....Gas was $0.72 a gallon in Tampa Bay FL back then ...Car smoked so bad that I couldn't see the cars behind me and when I got stuck at a red light. All the cars around me rolled up their windows ...Good times .Fun Memories
