    Hey Kevin 🙂 The running backwards thing is nicknamed “dieselling” in the UK. On carb/points cars it’s frequently due to the timing being too advanced and/or carbon buildup which stays hot enough for a few seconds to ignite any remaining fuel. Dad’s ‘83 Crossflow Fiesta was notorious for it 🙂

    • @BariLopesh
      @BariLopesh 2 года назад +6

      It definitely wasn't dieseling, never seen it push fuel out the carb like that before 🤣

      @@BariLopesh agree

    • @david-pt8wd
      @david-pt8wd 2 года назад +6

      yea that wasn't dieselling it would just run after the iggniton was cut because it was hot this car literally ran backwards

    • @jimdieseldawg3435
      @jimdieseldawg3435 2 года назад +3

      @@david-pt8wd Agreed, when it spat a pint of unburnt fuel out of the barrels 😆 Dieselling is when there is excess fuel and advanced spark (or still glowing-hot carbon buildup) after shutdown which ignites when a piston is approaching TDC but not quite there, forcing the piston back down the bore hence running the crank backwards. The Fiesta used to do several backwards revolutions like that; if left in gear it would shoot backwards! Been racking my brains and I just can’t figure out why the LTD was so dyspeptic 🤔😁

    • @pontiacrye7318
      @pontiacrye7318 2 года назад +2

      @@jimdieseldawg3435 I feel like we need to get to the bottom of this, someone has to purchase that car and find out whats going on there, this is way too much of a mystery to leave at rest. definitely not dieseling, or normal dieseling. But since its pushing the fuel out its probably not getting enough to continue firing, but there could be a way to do get it to spin long enough. I am extremely intrigued to why and would definitely buy it and share it with everyone, but sadly I am not in a financial or medically sound state for spending money on a vehicle, got 2 broken ones already. Someone save it before they crush it please! (maybe the alternator is energizing its self into a motor and turning the engine?)

    The first car I bought when I got home from the USAF was a 77 Mercury Zephyr z7. 200 straight 6. Rack and pinion steering and ran like a top even with 150K on the clock.

    Can confirm, minivans make great back field bashers, comfy enough your spine doesn't hate you as much after you've jumped them, and you can keep the one that survives to store or haul firewood! Win win!

    Wow, that Grand Am must have been the second-last one to be parked out there! XD Gel-cell battery maybe?
    Some of these cars need to be struck by lightning for them to have any chance at turning over! XD
    Yup, seat-pads were once made out of coir, AKA coconut fiber, also called horse-hair for their appearance.
    That's what many an old VW Beetle hat for seat-cushions over the springs!
    Unfortunately, crumbly old dry fibers, sagging springs, and new owners not putting terminal caps on the battery (under the rear seat) caused a fair amount of fires!
    Not as bad as those caused by fuel-filter/line failure in the hot engine compartment, especially since the rear seat-bottom could be ripped out and tossed aside to burn if people on the scene were quick enough.

    Another good one. Re "stove bolt", while a 54 does have a few stove bolts, the older real "stove bolts" have a lot more of them and the rocker arm cover has two bolts sticking out the top of it. 53 straight stick and older are "stove bolts", I think.

    The Mercury Zephyr is the Mercury version of the Ford Fairmont. Yours is a post-facelift, 1981-'83. Pre-facelifts were 1978-1980, and all 1977 Fairmonts were police cars, but good luck finding any.

    It would be cool if JYD actually came back to the tow truck revived it, and kept it for use. Those old manual tow trucks are hard to find and when fixed are absolutely immortal. Make em even better when you install a proper wheel lift on em.
