  • Quick tutorial on how I get fatter and punchier drums with parallel processing.
Parallel processing on drums is basically creating a duplicate copy of the drums and adding heavy effects to it, such as bit crushing, drive/saturation and compression.
The wet channel is then mixed in with the dry channel to taste.
The benefit is that the wet signal adds power and punch while the dry signal preserves the original dynamics and transients. It’s a win-win.

Nice one. I've never tried using a bitcrusher on drums before.

Nice tips. I often do this using just Logic's compressor. 0ms attack and 5ms release with high ratio to really squash the dynamics and make the decays really fat. Then distortion (usually soft and about 3-6 dB of drive). That's how I do it using just one stock Logic plugin.

Hey man. Can you please clarify the routing of the buses in here? I am using Cubase so I am not sure how you have connected it here. Is it like the drums are send to external FX which is Bitcrusher (and that's how you control the dry/wet signal) or the whole Drum Group is on this effect? Because in Cubase there are FX buses and the Group Tracks. And I'm not sure if you put Bitcrusher onto the group or sent the whole group to FX track. I hope you understand me. CHeers

Hi again. Thanks for answering this. This was exactly what I was thinking about. Simply in Cubase those groups and buses are in different colours so you can easily guess what is being done. No I just need to find some better bitcrusher that will make this effect for me as Cubase's one doesn't work with this so well. Thanks again.
