To those saying that the teahouse was a scam, it was not. I am aware of the scam, but that's not what it was.
I did not pay anything for the tea, the owner (my friend's friend) was just being friendly and very generous. She even gave me a gift of a huge box of very expensive tea, handmade incense, an incense holder, and more all for free!
I didn't want anyone to think negatively of the experience because it was very beautiful and honest.

Travellight I agree with you. Most of Chinese very friendly ,and in northern china people even more generous to friends. I think your Chinese friends can tell you guys very simple , pure , open minds to the new things without any ideology, every body like to make friends with nice people. You guys just awesome!

can you please ask your local friend about the full address or any contact details of the teahouse you went to the other night and send me a private message if the owner of the teahouse has good news about my request? cheers! and wish you all the best living and exploring the Middle Kingdom!

Travellight Compared with Hongkong, I prefer Shenzhen, because I personally feel that although Hongkong is very busy, but too crowded, the buildings crowded together, people crowded together, feeling very bad. I've been living in Shenzhen for two years and I feel very relaxed and comfortable. I'm glad you like it too

When I first traveled to China in 2007 to teach English for a year, one of my favorite actives quickly became taking a walk after dinner with friends and exploring the narrow lanes of the subtropical city we lived in.
With a couple of lamb or chicken skewers in hand, we were set to explore the city for the night. On our nightly walk to the river that ran through the city, we observed the people around us selling clothes from carts along the streets and students playing ping pong in a park.
Everyone was outside doing something (or nothing) and you felt like you were a part of it. One of the best things about China is that you can walk out of your door and everything and everyone is right there waiting for you.
As China continues to grow, more and more foreigners are choosing to travel, live, work, or do business in China. No matter what your reason for exploring this vibrant country, the below tips on how to get by during your first days will help give you the confidence to buy your ticket and go have fun in China.

In my opinion because of the huge population (1.3 billion), you'll find the most extreme people in both end of the scale. Unfortunately it is the negative end that's most eye catching on media. That explains the impression people especially the westerners have on China. But for anyone who has a open mind and actually set foot there, it's actually better than many of the world's metropolitans

David Wong, very few people speak English in China, and even those that do, are either shy of communicating in English or have a thick accent. You might find a few speakers in a large city like Beijing, Shanghai or Shenzhen. Mostly, those who want to practice their language skills would try to befriend you.
Considering that you're ethnically Chinese, many people would initially try to communicate with you in Chinese. But, its no big deal once they realize that you don't speak the language.
I know a Brazilian guy who speaks very little broken English and no Chinese and he manages to live and work here in a small city in China.

I've been in Shenzhen for many years, never aware of those kinds of exclusive teahouse. Guess it is because I am not exclusive. lol You should sell those tea they gave you. From my point of view, I don't taste the difference between very expensive tea and very cheap tea. They all taste almost the same.

I think the brown water at the beach is because there are three waterways into the ocean around that general area. I think it is called the estuaries where the fresh water meet the ocean water, resulting in the waterbed turning and browning of the water in the area. That is crucial for the maritime environment where the fish get plenty of nutrition due to the waterbed turning.

I am from Shenzhen and I haven't been back for 2 years really miss it. However, for foreigners to explore China I would recommend go to the west or other small cities, (like the you tuber "food ranger") instead of Beijing, Shanghai or Shenzhen. Because all these modern cities are are more or less the same around the world

You are right. Many Chinese cities are losing their own characteristics in the wave of economy growing. I cannot tell whether it's good or not.

Hearing a knock, you open the door and - before you can even take in who is standing there, you smell something heavenly.
There is an elderly man standing there, and a pretty girl, holding stacks and stacks of steaming hot pizza boxes.
The man smiles, "We have come to give you the First Comment Award!"
The girl beams. "And an INFINITE amount of pizza!"
You are so excited, you cannot think of anything to say. The man opens the top pizza box and a small cloud of delicious steam floats out. Is it just you, or is the box glowing with manifest happiness?
The man hands you the trophy, and the pizza. You are just about to bite into the slice of bliss when -
"WAIT!" the girl takes out a camera. She angles the pizza just so. She begins taking photos, and more photos, and even more, and - you guessed it - more photos. Wait, is she taking a video now? She adjusts her camera.
      "Eating time now???"
She giggles. "Just one more shot." She proceeds to take one more. And then another. And another.
You slip into a dreamlike state. The clocks on the walls sigh into silence as time and space hangs suspended. Seasons pass. Seeds grow into trees, and those trees eventually turn to dust. Stars fade into oblivion. Time stretches on.
      "Just one more."

Asher Teo so what? I will never like or hate a person just because of his/her nationality- that's sth he/she born with: he/she does not do anything about it so why I should judge people because of sth totally out of their control? And if someone judges me because of where I am from, that's none of my business. That's just because his/her lack of basic education and I will only feel pity for him/her.

+Asher Teo Yeah, I love them because they deserve to! Of course, there will be some rotten apples in all nations but larger point is those Asian nations have too much in their roots to ignore.
That being said, I like the US but not many creeping from my southern borders! And, why is that? Canada is cool for me, although many here make fun of them! :)
