    Thank you for watching everyone. We've hit 100 000 subscribers too, so this is a bit of a special episode! 🥳 What did you think, was it too long or are you one of those that like longer videos? I don't necessarily plan on releasing many such long videos in the future (so much work to edit 😬), but for this one I felt like I needed to cover a larger span of time to make the story complete...

      Keep em long! ppl can pause. RUclips remember where u wher last time u left off. Especially for fans like me its perfekt :D Or short! It dont really matter to be honest =) I know the HUGE mindspace it goes in to telling a story and sometimes its just enough or you just have to go on =) Cheers / The Maxi Racer guy from sweden

    Hi Juho, thanks for letting us be part of your journey! For me, this video was not too long at all!
    About your Centerboard: we had a Maracuja 39 some time ago, which was the smaller sibling of your Alumi. For quite a while, Garcia made the centerboards, that they have play sideways. Under side pressure they set on the sides with a slight angle. The idea was to give it a better upwind performance. Maybe you noticed, that the bushing in the centerboard was not cylindric, then it was definitely made on purpose like that. Also, the centerboard is not totally unweighted, it has some lead inside at the back side, to keep it in down.
    It's floating in nearly perfect sailing position under water (I installed our centerboard after a repair while the boat was in the water).
    We learned, that It was most comfortable to sail with the centerboard partly up when going abeam and completely up, when sailing on a broad reach or downwind. The boat movements were also better with the boards up and the chance that you broach, is nearly zero without centerboard.
    We newer locked the centerboard down, it stayed in position by itself and it would be able to pivot, if we hit something with the boat. For the same reason, we kept the small daggerboard behind the skeg mostly up, or at least higher than the skeg. As hitting something serious with the daggerboard down could possibly break the daggerboard box, which is most likely weaker then the daggerboard itself. We completely lowered the daggerboard only when needed for upwind sailing.
    Congratulations to your boat, I am sure, you will going to love it. We were very happy with ours. Sailing performance was very good except for upwind, but that's what you pay for a boat, with an inboard ballast (and 1m draft).
    All the best, enjoy life and stay safe. Rolf

      Hi Rolf, I made a comment about the aft daggerboard in another video about a construction error in a few (the first?) mid-80 years' Maracuja and Nouanni. I've read, and was also told by an owner, that a Maracuja sank within minutes after the daggerboard box welds failed after hitting something with the aft daggerboard, and that Garcia contacted the owners to warn them and recommended a specific reinforcement. Do you happen to know anything more about that?

    • @AlluringArctic
      @AlluringArctic  Год назад +5

      thanks @rolf6734 and @fredflintstone8664 , it's a late reply but I've noticed your comments! We use the centerboard much the same way as you. we're aware of the daggerboard box issue and I have seen photos of the destroyed daggerboard box. Ours is partly reinforced and might need to check into reinforcing it more, not completely sure. I'm trying to ask Garcia for more specifics, usually they get back with a reply but it might take a month or two (or three...)

    I knew exactly where you were by the title of this video. Its nice to see another sailing channel passing through. The Colombia River is such an important part of WA and OR. Not just because of shipping but also fishing and power. There are several dams that produce a lot of power for the region. I know you are making your way North but do take the time to enjoy the beauty of the islands here. There are a lot of hidden gems all along the inside passage. Thank you for these past two videos. I equally enjoy the refit/work and the sailing vids. I especially like how you focus on both the simple things and the complicated issues, and explain in detail the how and why . So many channels just show the fun stuff. I enjoy seeing your crew sleeping, playing cards, preparing food etc. It gives us landlocked dreamers a real sense of your journey. I have lived in Portland my entire life and have sailed in the Columbia river basin at Portland. It is over a mile wide there, and there are thousands of sailboats that spend their whole lives there and never see salt. Fortunately, I had occasions to crew on race boats down the river, over the bar and up to Vancouver BC. I've been across the bar at mis-judged times on a 28 ft blue water boat and was truly in fear for my life. At the top of the inside passage is the town of Skagway. Lovely historic gold rush down. If you go there, I have a good friend that has a beautiful off grid Homestead 7 miles out of town. I know he would be happy to meet you and show you around. He could take you to his favorite close up grizzly bear spots! Safe journey.

    I was expecting more excitement crossing the Bar ,, you actually got it about as calm as it gets that time of year. In Summer and July/August its pretty calm at Slack Tides. Well everything is looking good and you are off an running. I saw your Type 2 Linear Drive and laughed at the mount. I actually need a new one myself if you come across one or if Raymarine sends you a new one.
    Hey also if you need ANYTHING parts related while you are in that area ,, call my friend Bernie who owns Canadian Marine Parts in Vancouver and Burnaby areas and tell him Chris said you can have anything you need at dealer cost. And i'm serious,,, ANYTHING you need. They sell everything that exists and are part of the Mercury Marine conglomerate and Land n Sea Cartel.
