    It's amazing to me how these guys never got signed onto a major label in the mid 80's glam heyday. Their first 3 indie albums with Terry Glaze on vocals stand up to anything else that was coming out on the major labels back then. Truly unheralded music that should've been all over MTV circa 84-85.

    • @nathanielknapp8971
      @nathanielknapp8971 10 лет назад +17

      You may be right about that, but if it had gone down like that "Cowboys from Hell" (etc.) probably would never have happened.

    • @dwk67
      @dwk67 10 лет назад +29

      Possibly not, but there may have been a string of more albums in the VH, Ratt, Dokken vein of the first three. I always though Darrell was right up there with EVH, Rhoads, and George Lynch even as a tennager like he was on this track. I like both era's of Pantera, but I'd choose the original group over the latter if a choice was to be made as I prefer melody over the extreme stuff later Pantera specialized in. Who knows, Darrell might still be alive today also...

    • @grarghov1
      @grarghov1 10 лет назад +8

      @dwk67, Nathaniel Knapp: i think CFH and the groove metal transition would have happened after all (actually Judas Priest also had a brief groove metal-ish period when Tim Owens joined them, their Jugulator album sometimes relates to CFH closely) - however if they had been a popular & succesful hair metal band, they would have returned to their roots far by now - Damageplan and Dime's assassination might have not happened. You could go to a Pantera show in spandex and silly hairdo even now :))))

      Lack of focus and lack of promotion. If they released this song as a single and put it on the radio then I think there's so question they would have gotten signed.

      Fortunaly they never signed a contract with major during in 80, because if you know glam genre was dead at the begin of the 1990.

    I find it strange that the band turned their back on these albums and songs. This is heavy duty, high quality, honest and passionate music. Especially on a track like this, all the elements are in place. Songwriting, musical ability, technical prowess, heart, soul, creativity and ingenuity ... it's all there. This is everything I could ever ask for out of a song. I'm so glad that these albums survived despite the band's efforts to bury them. Now the world can see for themselves that these guys had it going on before they switched gears and became a sensation.

      I’m reviving this slumbering comment section…
      To yell out “Pantera ain’t thrash bro” to someone that isn’t ripe about metal sub-genres as if his guess is absurdly off base is not helpful.
      Before Vulgar their was a thick coating of glam metal there, but the glam gets shed from the Pantera personality with each succeeding album while this progressively evolving personality of theirs becomes more & more saturated with a harder heavy metal… with the albums Power Metal & Cowboys From Hell both containing some definite thrash-type moments.

    If they'd kept the songwriting in this vein, they probably would have gotten signed to a major label, or at least broken the self-release hell and signed with Metal Blade or Megaforce or somebody. But Dime was already pulling in the direction of thrash/more aggressive stuff, and Terry wanted to stay "glam", so their songwriting was going in all sorts of directions with the Judas Priest pastiches and the power ballads or straight glam rockers. And so even though they were an unbelievable live act and had awesome songs no major label ever came close to working out a deal with them. But these songs right here are what made 80s Pantera awesome. Too bad they apparently never played these live, not this or Forever Tonight or In Over My Head.

    I grew up in the 80s in my 50s now .I like this Pantera era better that later 90s Dines playing was ahead of its time sounds better than later years,they were really hungry to make it and put out good records.I would have bought all these records back then if they were on a major label and should have been way before Ratt,Motley Crue and specially before Poison got signed.
