      You are right, Barfight, combining the get-up with a takedown is ideal. In this tutorial we are just focusing on the basic technique, but it can be combined in a wide variety of ways with different offensive techniques. Thanks for your comment.

    Great verbal explanation & great solo physical demonstrations, but working with a partner on these moves will give us better insight on how it looks during combat.

      Thanks for your comment, Kobies Boxing. Indeed, you read my mind, will be working on some application videos for these in the near future, cool drills we've been working on with our students that can really help make the techniques work better. Please stay tuned! - Patrick

    The important part on the getting back up is on that leg being moved behind your hand for stability.
    I was looking for a good video that explain this well, thank you.

    Exactly you have to do a Ford and reverse falls and enrolls and then you have to stretch your legs out and then you've got to kick on your back and then you've got to roll out left or right side in order to effectively escape ground fighting is when someone's got you on your back you're learning to fight like a UFC warrior

    I understand what you're doing here is effective... But as a kid with no training, I naturally did a different technique. I would fall back a little bit sideways arm first, with my arm and whole body loose and soft. The very first moment I felt my arm hit the floor,my brain knew to instantly start to harden my arm and body. In the the fractions of a second that I was continuing to fall, I would quickly continue to harden my body. This always worked for me. I never experienced any moment of pain while hitting the floor... This technique was never enough to win a fight. But if I could see a solid punch coming towards me that I couldn't block, then this would always take away from the impact of the punch tremendously. Sure, I then had to figure out what I was going to do from the ground position... But do you follow what I've said? If you do, what do you have against this?

      If you have the space, sure... But beware of bringing your face forward, which could be met by a punch, kick or knee.

    Hey at 2:13 you re-positioned yourself incorrectly probably for the camera. Just prior you had opposite leg and arm up! It was a little confusing until I figured out what you did.

    This is a great tutorial! I'm a bit older than you, and I have trouble getting up like that quickly. I feel like I'm 80 years old when I try! I also seem to lean my body and my head forward, and I'm open to be kicked in the head. Any suggestions for me? Thanks!

    • @EffectiveMartialArts
      @EffectiveMartialArts  5 лет назад

      Good question, AlwaysFighting73. The trick is to isolate, drill and repeat that part of the move when your leg goes under your body, between your other leg and posting arm. Also remember to keep looking up at where your opponent would be, and keep your free arm posted out towards him or in a "shield block" position with your elbow bent so you protect your face. Hope this helps! - Patrick

    When you get up while being attacked I was taught to scoot myself back twice, kick off as if to the knee, then stand up.

    • @EffectiveMartialArts
      @EffectiveMartialArts  6 лет назад

      Thanks for your comment, Jamada. The best way to develop the real skill of getting back to your feet is to practice it with a partner, using progressive resistance. Have a partner come at you slowly, mimicking the movements of an attacker (punches, kicks, ankle grips), with no real intention to hurt you, and you practicing getting back up to your feet. Your partner should make it challenging for you, but allow you to be successful, and not want to actually hurt you. As you get more comfortable, he should offer more resistance, until you can do it against a realistic attack. Safety first though. Will make more videos about this in the future. Hope this helps. - Patrick

      Interesting opinion, Sensei. These techniques are inspired partly from parkour and stunt training, so they are recommended on hard surfaces, albeit more training is required in that case. Indeed, you wouldn't willingly fall on a hard surface, but if you do despite your best efforts to remain standing, these techniques will minimize the damage. In any case, it is recommended to start slow, and increase velocity from there. Will publish more related content in the future. Hope this helps. - Patrick
