Lovely video - 100% agree. Gear paralysis (researching for microphones) led me to this video.
We live in a society where we are accustomed to our problems to being solved by companies. Everytime we have a new problem, we ask ourselves, "Is there something I could buy that will fix this?"
Perhaps it's part of being human - we've literally evolved to develop new tools to address our latest challenges.
100% agree this stems from anxiety/fear - a fear of our work being dismissed and laughed at by others - and a fear that our work doesn't represent our true potential. Like you, I'm always looking at new gear that I can't really afford and don't truly need (anything to delay starting a project that little more). This always starts off as an innocent thought, but turns into something much more dangerous.
One thing that's worked for me is cutting down my smartphone usage - a smartphone only makes it easier for me to research new gear and go down the rabbit hole. At one point my screen-on time was 8-10 hours per day - now my screen time is 20-60mins per day at the max.
Having someone close to you help you manage your time is also something that has helped me stay on track.
It's so hard my man - wishing you the best from the UK. Love the story about Grimes!
Hope you come back to RUclips soon mate.
    (video audio is great btw)

I like your podcast sound, would you mind telling me what your fx chain is and what your settings are?

Well, if that good mic broke, could you do this video? You could, but with whatever cheaper mic you had to find in a box, it wouldn't sound as good. I know a good condenser mic of mine just ceased to work. So I tried using a cheaper mic for my guitar, as the interface I was using, kept shutting down the computer. And my guitar sounded like shit. If someone hadn't heard me before, they would have thought I was a beginner. Because the mic only picked up 60% of the sound.

That comment made no sense, disregard it. Or disregard the disregard.
