My fear of crossing long bridges is still being justified
Dude, what about crossing long tunnels?
@@switch12345678Theyre worse :/ lol
@@switch12345678 in metro trains 🥶
Bridges are fine. Tunnels are fine. They require multiple engineers(thousands) who spends almost a LIFETIME making it as secure as possible. They make calculations and do regular check ups yearly to make sure it is safe.
You have a higher chance of dying from driving a car then dying from a bridge collapse or a tunnel collapse. Don't worry. Just drive trough it.
So don't fear it, just drive trough it.
And in L.A., fearful of earthquakes, people are afraid of being caught up in a traffic jam and being under a freeway bridge for too long, understandable.
I literally was only an hour away from driving over this omw to the airport. Just wow
Omg.

If you had been on that bridge, would you have understood that we viewers still think its spectacular? Like I care for the people in the water, and I'd even jump in to save them, but man thats impressive to watch
As a fisherman i spend time under alot of bridges. One thing its done is make me scared of crossing them. If your average citizen seen how old an rusted out most of our bridges are they would think twice about crossing them. Theres one bridge connecting Maryland and Virginia on route 15 that i absolutely refuse to drive over anymore. Mark my words in the next few years youll be seeing that one on the news to. Our entire infrastructure in this country is crumbling and rusting and meanwhile our government is sending billions over seas. Smh. RIP to those who couldnt make it out that water.

America is falling apart. My condolences to the relatives of anyone who died
It was hit by a ship
So this is a sign of the US falling apart? This? A very similar thing happened in 1980 in Florida (under Reagan, mind you). A cargo ship slammed into the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, which partly collapsed and plunged several cars into Tampa Bay, killing thirty-five people in the process. Seems America must have been collapsing ever since May 9, 1980. But yeah, my condolences to all the relatives and friends of those who lost their lives.
I am in Pennsylvania. I haven't seen or heard anything about this here!
THANK YOU! As usual, I get important news from elsewhere. Not here.

I don't watch CNN. 🙄 That's likely how I missed it.
My family and state is directly impacted by the bridge's collapse and it is frustrating to hear people from around the world commenting without having direct knowledge of this tragedy. The ship's crew contacted authorities to let them know they were having problems soon after they left the Port of Baltimore. They lost power, no propulsion, so no, they did not try to hit the bridge on purpose. In fact, thanks to their mayday calls and calls to authorities, many vehicles were prevented from crossing the bridge just before it collapsed. What is known at this time is that unfortunately there were approximately 8 road crew members working on filling potholes at the time of the collapse. Two were rescued and the search and rescue efforts continue for the remaining members. It is unknown if there were more people already on the bridge when it collapsed. This is an ongoing investigation even now at noon US East Coast time. BTW, the Key bridge was built in the 1970s and was still totally up to code, so there was no shoddy workmanship, etc. This tragedy is going to affect the Baltimore region for years as over 35k commuters cross the bridge daily. They will have to now reroute to tunnels and a limited number of bridges that already have two to three times that amount of commuters on a daily basis. And the Port of Baltimore is going to be closed for an unknown amount of time as debris must be completely removed from the Patapsco River, the channel will have to be inspected, and when the bridge rebuilding begins any ships will also have to maneuver that; so, this is having an incredible impact on my state and beyond, and on the thousands of people who live in the area and use that bridge daily. Your prayers are welcome but not your conspiracy and political theories. If you want up-to-date information please watch Baltimore's local news channels and also listen to reports from those directly involved in this ongoing tragedy and investigation. Thank you.
Thank you for this comment!! I'm local as well and I hate those ignorant rubbernecking comments.
omg - prayers to those on the bridge and the ship

How can one lone support structure bring down the whole bridge ?
Poor design !😡👎👎
what are you talking about... it is about a progressive collaps of truss elements, not about using this or that design pattern

And this is why you're not an engineer.

does it matter if it was leaving or entering? The fact is, it hit this bridge.
@@cplcabs : if you have ship that big, you need a tug boat or covering boat to make sure the ship gets the right heading into deep water.
@micheldenostredame519 in this case a tug may have been required to pull it from its birth, but not for its outward journey. It needed pilots on board and there were two. These pilots are provided by the port and would have left the ship once the pilots had done their Bob of guiding the ship out of the port area.
