You spoke about capacitors, so I did a google search, very interesting, I do play with electronics as a hoody , I’m learning - slowly. I’m actually a retired mechanic, so electronics is new to me. I get most of my components from my scrapping.
I find the cool copper plugs in the middel of an aluminum heat sink it was a solid copper plug a few cool things that i just keep because of the kool factor .

I should’ve broke it open just for the sake of the video, but I really don’t like breaking epoxy. It’s messy and sometimes it’s still hard to get things removed. The other reason is because all that epoxy is heavy and since my yard is ok with me putting that sort of stuff in the shred, I’m getting paid for that weight, even though it’s shred price, I believe it makes up for any loss of potential copper.

I like cracking open stuff like that, you never know what treasures you will find inside. I usually keep all my aluminum heat sinks big and small for my LED projects. Those big LED COBS get pretty hot without heat sinks. Those bigger alum. sinks I bring to work and cut them to size on the metal bandsaw. Those sure are some very nice gifts you received in the mail ,very cool. I just took apart some big relays and switches from some big AHUs ,full of brass and copper goodness. Awesome episode brother you know I have upgraded the plug soup recipe. Next working kettle you get save half fill with moulded plugs power sockets fill with water boil once it will take about 15 minutes to click off so don't sweat it. When it does eventually click off all the metal will be 100c and will pull from the now very soft rubbers and plastics. I am in the process of another batch so easy brother. Very cool! I actually prefer using the heat of the sun using a reflective shield with a piece of glass on top, but I know England doesn’t typically get as hot as it does where I live. But I do love your idea and if I come across an electric kettle I will give your idea a try. Never hurts to have multiple ways of doing things.

Funny thing, when I visited England for a month back in 2018, it was hot and dry and not a single drop of rain 😆 I will say, our American plugs are way different than yours and I totally get why y’all do plug soup.

Been scrapping over 30 years. Cant say how many vacuums microwaves ive stripped. Old crt tvs were nice. I have several computer repair shops that give me the junk stuff. I love getting copper but gold is a bit better

I love copper and brass, but with how valuable gold has become, it’s definitely something I think about more lately. I do collect gold bearing material, I’m just collecting until I can find someone to refine it for me.
Great video again! Was loving the brass holes for the screws. But after that first one.. haha. Some questions though; how do you sometimes see if something is brass even though they (the pins in this case) look like aluminum? And lastly: checking those big red coloured spools.. i thought red meant coated aluminium instead of copper. Can you elaborate? I find that most difficult: checking if spools are copper or alu with a file.. because i can then hardly see the difference in colour. Thx again!! And GJ on that mega aluminum coolerblock! Some

Yeah I thought I was going to get them all 🤣 Connectors are typically going to be brass or copper since they transfer electricity really well and because of my experience scrapping for 3 years I knew they were brass. Really can’t go by the color of them, I’ve found red ones to be copper and red ones to be aluminum. When checking with a file, if they are aluminum,they will be shiny looking like silver, that’s the best way to tell. Usually they will be obviously copper cause of the reddish orange color. Those brass inserts are always extremely difficult to remove. Someone commented one time on a good way to get them out but I’m old and forgot what it was before I had a chance to try😅 It’s basically game over when I encounter the epoxy.

When it comes to circuit boards, they are looking for stuff that contains precious metal, so when there is lots of copper, brass and aluminum on a board, that’s considered low grade. Last week I processed about 4 pounds of those transistors. Used real nitric to save the silver. I burned them ground them took them through the process. Best thing I got was the copper for my stockpot. Going forward I won't be taking them off the boards.

Try holding one end of the copper in the vise and use a piece of sand paper to get the paper coating off the copper wire. Looks like the copper spider is waiting for you to look away so it can steal your score.
I checked the price on the Canopy with sides or mobile garage, whatever it’s considered. I can find 10 by 20 for $250. Is that about right? You’re the only person that scraps stuff they don’t even know what it is. Most, if not all, would throw it in shreds.

@@scrapitall200 I'm a hobby scrapper, too. We had a major remodel of the main floor five years ago. Moved two load bearing walls. That's when I started watching these videos. We got to enjoy the remodel for about three months, then a tornado forced us to have a little bit bigger remodel. No major injuries in the area, thanks to the Weather Service. They tracked for nearly three hours the two cells that merged into the big storm that was on the ground for over forty miles. My advice is if you are entering any storm shelter, wear sturdy shoes.
@@richavic4520 oh wow! I live in the Pacific Northwest so I’ve never been close to a tornado. I’m glad everyone was alright. I will keep that in mind if I’m ever caught in a bad storm.
@@mattyal9347 the only tool that gives me grief after a long day is my cutters from squeezing them, so when I can, I like to rest one handle on the bench and push down on the cutters instead of squeezing, when possible. That has helped my wrists tremendously.
A simple way to turn number 2 copper into number 1. Get an inexpensive rock tumbler. Tumble your dirty copper with sand-blasting sand. This should remove all varnish and glue.
@@patrickwilliams4613 I prefer to scrap them than trying to resell them. I live on an Island so it makes it much more difficult to resale since there’s not a lot of people here, but thank you for the suggestion.

The 2 little white boxes on the last board are relays without epoxy. I've found that if it has writing on top its always a copper relay
Those ones actually are filled with epoxy. After I record videos I always double check the boards to make sure I didn’t miss anything.

Sometimes there is a nice cooper coil inside of those boxes filled with epoxy. I always break them with a hammer.

Those anderson plugs usually have a steel clip that keeps the pins in place. If you can release the clip the pin usually slides out.

Cut the housing off with a saw. Then use a heat gun to soften the epoxy. Remove using a screw driver. I've found some really boards trapped in epoxy.

No, they will only pay shred prices for them. On really big capacitors, I will clean them to get clean old sheet aluminum price for them.

We had a major remodel of the main floor five years ago. Moved two load bearing walls. That's when I started watching these videos.
We got to enjoy the remodel for about three months, then a tornado forced us to have a little bit bigger remodel.
No major injuries in the area, thanks to the Weather Service. They tracked for nearly three hours the two cells that merged into the big storm that was on the ground for over forty miles.
My advice is if you are entering any storm shelter, wear sturdy shoes.
@@richavic4520 oh wow! I live in the Pacific Northwest so I’ve never been close to a tornado. I’m glad everyone was alright.
I will keep that in mind if I’m ever caught in a bad storm.

@@mattyal9347 the only tool that gives me grief after a long day is my cutters from squeezing them, so when I can, I like to rest one handle on the bench and push down on the cutters instead of squeezing, when possible. That has helped my wrists tremendously.

A simple way to turn number 2 copper into number 1. Get an inexpensive rock tumbler. Tumble your dirty copper with sand-blasting sand. This should remove all varnish and glue.

@@patrickwilliams4613 I prefer to scrap them than trying to resell them. I live on an Island so it makes it much more difficult to resale since there’s not a lot of people here, but thank you for the suggestion.
