It's Halloween week, and I, Elie Moses, a 22-year-old film student from Australia, decided to watch Ari Aster's Hereditary for the first time. Let's just say it didn't go too well. Here is my movie reaction.

hereditary (2018) first time movie reaction
Elie I’m so proud of you for putting your Buffy knowledge to good use… “that’s the thing about magic. there are ALWAYS consequences.. always!” 😂😂
This movie has the exact same tone as The Shining. Also like The Shining it's a slow burn but builds up to a terrifying final 20 minutes!!
I truly loved your reaction! Hereditary is my favorite horror film, and I love that you appreciated it,too. Ari Aster is just a master filmmaker. His ability to create dread with just framing shots a certain way is incredible! Toni Collette and Alex Wolff should have been acknowledged for their acting. These could not have been easy roles! Keep the reactions coming.🙌❤️
Hereditary is my all time fav horror movie. So many layers to that movie, u need to watch it at least twice. Amazing reaction buddy 😊😊
A great & funny reaction. You got it spot on at the end. It is the constant build up of nothing but tension, nerves, & a few noises here & there... & your mind makes it 100 times worse than any film maker could. Lots of horror films throw in lots of scares to let that tension release a little. But here it's just left to build... & build... & build.
I hope everyone is having an amazing week & much love to all from here in the UK
I also love how the camera moves from left to right. The use of sound in this movie is also amazing! You can hear a sound in your left ear and another in your right ear! Like magic!!! I love how the screams of Annie showcase Peter's emotion. This movie has scenes and shots too!!!
Had to follow you!
I enjoyed the way you described how you felt about the movie!
yooo thank youu
I think it’s worth mentioning that the foundation of this movie is a family drama that mixes horror on top of it, and it’s that emotional impact from the drama that makes the amazingly crafted horror all that more scary than it already is in isolation after being so emotionally invested, without that it wouldn’t have as much impact
This film absolutely does not let up. It won't LET ME breathe. Crazy fucking movie.
Hahah the beginning 😂😂😂😂🤦♀️🤦♀️
This movie disturbed me more than any movie
I feel the anxiety that Elie feels when watching and thinking about these type of movies😂😂😂
your take on the filmmaking and sound design make so much sense why this is my first favorite horror movie, casting lineups are flawless too, really enjoy your reaction with Bob! Love your genuine commentary. Can u pls react to Silence of the lamb?
Thanks, Elie! It's interesting how deeply you're affected by horror. 😱 Pure brilliance. I'm so grateful I saw this one on the big-screen. #ElieMoses #AriAster #Hereditary #Hereditary2018
Massive kudos for venturing out of your comfort zone for the content!
More horror film reactions, please. I'd recommend The Descent (UK ending version), Sinister, or Insidious.
Moral of the story: bring an epipen
I love how your reaction to this is completely different from watching Buffy. Love the variety in your work! Makes the reaction more relatable and entertaining
EXCELLENT reaction video! Sincere thanks, also, for actually PAUSING the movie when you want to discuss a particular thing. I’ve watched probably 30 reactions to this flick and you may be the only one who paused it. BTW if you watch it again, when the family gets home from the (1st) funeral, you’ll hear a few muffled bumps & footsteps coming from upstairs. So those old, naked people are crafty af lol. Again, THANK YOU for sharing! And I gotta say regardless of this horror, God wins. Period. Cheers!
Ari Aster is a fantastic film maker. I loved Midsommar and Hereditary as well.
Great reaction as always bro 🔥
in the beginning when they return home from the grandma funeral you can actually hear someone running upstairs before they entered the house :)
Ahhhh greattttt.....
Me gustó tu reacción, cuando vi la película en 2018 en el cine estaba realmente perturbado!!
Love this movie. I watch it every few months usually late at night before bed. I'm doing my 7th watch on Halloween. I'm surprised as someone that studies film that you didn't comment on the amazing transition from dollhouse to real room.
Great reaction buddy. If you haven't watched , " The Witch " , 2015 , great movie.
Peter looks a bit like a younger you. One of the creepiest movies. Probably more scary for those who believe in demons or hell.
HAIL PAIMAN!
“I say we take off, and nuke the entire site from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.”
This movie desperately needs Ellen Ripley….
No joke I saw this movie on a DATE and it was like the second date 😂 needless to say I really embarrassed myself for the whole second half of the movie.
The young girl is actually played by an adult (20-something) woman. She has a genetic condition that made her not develop normally so she looks really young for her age.
Who? What's her name? I thought you were talking about Charlie (Milly Shapiro) but it ain't her. She's 20. Still young enough to pass as a teen.
EDIT* I looked up Milly and she has the same disability as Gaten Matarazzo. The condition they have affects the bones and teeth. Some even missing a collarbone. I know Gaten doesn't have one. He demonstrated it I think when he was in Rob Dyrdek's show Ridiculousness.
No, Millie Shiparo is not in her thirties lol. She played Matilda a few years ago on broadway.
@@carlogiovanni Oh LOL okay. Yes I meant Millie. But anyway the genetic thing is true though.
Also, The Conjuring is not nearly as scary as this. It's just a generic horror movie. I'd recommend The Witch by Robert Eggers! It's not quite as scary as this but it's amazingly shot, the sound design is exceptional, and all the acting is great.
If you havent already seen it, watch The haunting of Hill house. Its a horror series (1 season,10 episode). It has some really masterful camerawork, really long one-take shots and very interesting storyline and it is of course also very scary but they dont scare you just because. It all means something.
For more spooky stuff, check out Jordan Peele’s NOPE and the original Evil Dead trilogy if you haven’t. I’d also be really interested to see what you think of some David Lynch if you haven’t checked him out, like Mulholland Drive or Lost Highway.
Seen NOPE and the evil dead trilogy is on the channel! Love them
43:58 Nooooooooooo!!! 😭 I still love you though, I have many friends that are straight so no worries 🏳️🌈 ❤️💜🧡💛💚💙
Please let me know if you did get nightmares after watching this. Dude, if you really can't handle scary stuff cuz it affects you that much, then don't do it lol. But what if I were to tell you that the door that you left open the entire time has moved ever so slightly without being that noticeable? 🤣I'm totally kidding Elie! Watch, now you're gonna be looking over your shoulder lol. You and Cassie from Popcorn In Bed are so jumpy. But she's getting slightly better at it than you. I think with time you'll handle that ish lol. Thanks for the headphone warning 👍
No but seriously, the way the brother just parks the car and goes straight to bed so nonchalant was so insane, I laughed my butt off. I was like there's no way that ish would happen. Another laugh came on when you're like, "That's who we need. We need Jesus. Jesus. My man, where you at?" LOL!!!!
Suprisingly no nigthmares yet but I watched it during the day but at night I had thoughts before bed going up amd downsatirs ehen it was dark
Would love if you reacted to insidious 😅
Why you covering?
I’m here for the Bible scriptures 😆 📖
Please watch conjuring and insidious!!!!!
This was a really great movie it was really creepy i just didnt like the end the kneeling bodies were ok but him jt standin there wit a dumb lookin crown on his head was stupid i think they could have found a much better way to end it
As I understand it, what happened to Peter/Charlie is generally how Donald Trump came to his riches and power. Ha! When I get scared by movies, I just remind myself that it's a movie - Toni Collette and Gabriel Byrne surrounded by a crew.
So sweet reaction of sweet boy😘
😘great reaction
