It's true, God created the planet originally to be a paradise for man, but that's no longer what it is. The world has fallen into sin and darkness, without the pain, we wouldn't be searching for relief. God doesn't cause them, but sometimes he allows us to go through trying periods to test our faith or to bring us to our knees and open our eyes towards Heaven. Every perfect thing comes from God, including mercy and comfort, but there can be no mercy without failure and no comfort without pain.
As I get older, I truly see life so much clearer. It is all about our eternal home, and sharing our hope with as many as we can

A powerful song by Matthew West that came out a couple of years ago, but it speaks words of comfort today in coping with the magnitude of greif the parents in Connecticut are feeling. When we cannot understand the unimaginable loss of such innocent children we cling to Christ and have Hope knowing they are now in His arms and one day will be reunited with their loved ones. "Jesus says, No ear has heard, no eye has seen the beauty that awaits beyond this world. Child welcome."

This song gets me every time! So good. "Seek first His Kingdom". Yes God is Good even though life can be hard, He is our rock & refuge, His love endures forever. Come to Jesus all who are weary & burdened & He will give you rest...rest for your souls. Psalm 147:3 He heals those who have a broken heart. He heals their sorrows. Jesus is the reason for this world, our hope & strength is in Him who makes us whole.

It says in Isaiah that we are the clay and God is the Potter. It also says that He will shine his Light through *us*.

This song is in the move The Heart of Christmas. Beautiful song but very sad at the same time.
A Final clarification: I realize people have been saved from this song, that's wonderful. I realize it has blessed people, I am glad. Please just know GOD IS NOT THE AUTHOR OF PAIN AND SUFFERING, our sin is. I didn't realize my comment would become so hot, I certainly don't mean to offend, just point out that God created a perfect world. BTW, I certainly don't pretend to know everything when it comes to scripture, but I am sure of this much.
Thanks for the reply Bradley. My Mom passed away on March 26, not even 3 months after she was diagnosed. At the funeral Mass for her, I comprised sort of a eulogy of sorts, ending with reading the words to this song. Everyone asked me how I did it, without crying. I just smiled, and kept "looking into the eyes of grace". Grace is my Mom's name! She's so happy now, and I cannot wait to see her again! I live my life in a way that will get me where she is, so I can see her again! God bless!

I recently lost my 19 yr old son to murder. Hardest thing I've ever faced. I want to die, but I have 2 other kids and 2 grandkids. I can't explain it... I was listening to pandora and the song "Slow Fade" (played when they carried Trevor's casket) came on and I totally broke. I was thinking about my life, mistakes I've made, and all the way up to losing Trevor. Crying my eyes out... Then this song came on. I can't explain how I felt listening to these words......... it's like He lifted me up.
Cheryl Williams My Mom passed away a couple weeks ago. Today is the first time I have ever heard this song. It brought peace to me. I read your post. I can’t imagine that pain of losing a child. I hope you are close to God and He is helping you. I’m sorry for the loss of your son. I know it’s been 5 yrs now but I hope you are ok.

I found this song about 3 days after my Mom was diagnosed with terminal cancer on January 11, 2012. I cried. Then I laughed and said, "Now I get it!" God bless you Matthew West and thank you for locking yourself (and your kitty) in that cabin to write these most awesome songs! I love you Mom! :D And when the time comes, I know that my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ will welcome you home with open arms! I rejoice in your final destination!

remember that no matter how badly your world is torn apart....that there's somebody elses world thats completly shattered...and those are the people that always seem to make it....so if they can make it through a broken life, you most definitely can make it too.

@jad2309 I'm so glad that people have been saved because of this song, but it doesn't change the fact that God created this world as a perfect paradise, not as a horrible planet just to make us long for heaven. It's touching that he dedicated it to Ryan, and I'm glad that it has touched peoples hearts. All I am saying is that it is not a Biblical message at all. Scriptures say every good and perfect thing comes from God, it's the sin in this world that causes pain, not God.
some people missed the like button. it's not about how good the beat or melody of the song sounds like, it the message of God being told.
I beat cancer in 2009 against all odds! this song is so awesome!

Heard this song for the first time 2/14/2010. My best mom friend, aka as "my thelma" lost her only child, her son Sam on 5/4/2010 10 days before he was to graduate from high school. Also being the mother of an only child (son) who was a long time friend of Sam since bed baby days at preschool, I have never before felt such grief. Nothing makes any sense anymore. The lyrcs to this song make more sense to me than anything has since 5/4. Thank you Matthew for writing this song.

I keep bouncing back and forth between sadness for losing a best friend that I've known for nine years because they moved and feeling a need to reach out and speak the truth of God's love and his rescue story. It's important to remember what you said.... There are more shattered people, and they have hope. I should too.

It will be exponential I'm sure. but when life gets hard, I mean harder than I am willing to deal with, I don't pray to go to Heaven because all I can think of are all of the people who still don't know Jesus. the ones without hope, the forgotten, the lonely. @joyfulkasey So, true! How sad that Matthew West misses the point by such a wide margin. There is pain in this world because people rebel AGAINST God's will. Not because it's God's will for us to suffer and to hate each other.
What is the picture of a loving father? That he would inflict injury and disease and death on his children to teach them to trust him, rely on him and draw closer to him? Such a father is a psychopath. That is not our loving Father in heaven.
@joyfulkasey you are SO wrong, he wrote this song in memory of a young man by the name of Ryan McAfee, and at his funeral, Matthew West's song "The Motions" was played and MANY people were saved THAT day. My cousin said that at every single concert Matthew West plays in he tells Ryan McAfee's story and many more are saved....

I normally like Matthew West, but this song misses the point, the world was created PERFECT, it was not created with pain, death, and trajedy. The world was created to be a paradise for man and God to commune together. This song gives the message that God created a lousy world just so we would look foreward to heaven. Yes heaven IS our greatest hope, but the world was perfect at one point. Sin is what brought suffering and death. God did not create a sinful world, man was the one who did.

@joyfulkasey no the song does not give that message. We live in a sinful world full of pain and troubles that sin created and no where in the bible does it say that come to Jesus and your life will be a perfect super-duper life and you will have no troubles. Read Luke 14:25- 33 what is says about the cost of discipleship and the point of suffering. We live in this world that is sinful, and to conform to this world would be easy, but since we do not thats why we looked forward to Jesus.
@asdasdkans Unfortunately this song does not give a doctrineally correct message(and I agree with you that once we are saved things don't become perfect). We know that since God created a perfect world free from sin and death, His purpose in creating the world wasn't to make us long for heaven, the world was already perfect. Suffering is a result of the fall and a punishment, yes God can make good come out of it. Heaven is our hope, not the reason we suffer.

........a test with the prize of heaven at the end, is unfortunately what many people can read into the lyrics. A Christian with the knowledge of scripture might not see it that way, but a non-Christian might, and it might keep them away from God, because it feeds into their belief that God is manevolent and unfair. It's man's rebellion that causes pain, not some sort of cosmic test. These lyrics are dangerous because they can be so easily interpreted into an unscriptural view.
Listening to the whole song ruined it, too much of a religious crap :D
