Finally someone who knows his stuff. Farmers like in the 1960's, at my grandparent's farm, with eggs, chickens, grain. They would feed their dog good human food. He did not ever go to the vet once and he "Barney" lived to be 21 years old. He just went to sleep during the night. I was only 6 years old and I was devastated. But it goes to show that every dog food along with human food is full of preservatives and additives. Even in the best top of the line dog food. So when you cook fresh food and meat, chicken, vegetables that have no additives, make your dod a bowl and in a few weeks you will notice a big difference in his all round health, coat and energy level. Have a Great Day Everyone and Thank You.
It's the same with my grandpa he only feed his German shepherds human foods he feed them Ham 3 times a week with garlic,as well as garlic chicken, garlic beef basically he gave them garlic everyday mix it different types of meats from Ham, Chicken, pork, beef, turkey, lamb and sea foods daily and all of his German shepherds lived around 30 human years healthy as an ox, he never had to take them to the vets as they never got sick never had fleas nor anything. People don't realize that store bought dog foods are the worst things to feed ones dogs as store bought dog foods shortens dogs lives and causes all kinds of health issues in dogs down the lines.
I’m from India, my family gives human foods to all our pets, they hardly had any health problems. Meat, vegetables, even fruits, they eat it all. If it’s good for us, good for animals as well.
I often give my dog a share of what we are having for dinner...unless I know it's something not good for him. I always think about "what were farmers feeding their dogs before kibble was invented"? Likely some scraps and leftovers.
Great vid Doc, thanks My little mutt ate over medium eggs fried in olive oil for breakfast with me, pretty well daily. And loved baby carrots for a treat. He made it to over 18 years, don't know how old he was when I got him.
I’ve been making my dogs food for about 6 months. Ground turkey, chicken, carrots, broccoli, yams, potatoes, oats, eggs w/shells, brown rice and apples. They are looking and behaving so much better.
Awesome information!!I started making my own dog food using brown rice, hard boiled eggs, carrots, pumpkin beets (small amount), peas (small amount), homemade chicken stock, ground beef or ground chicken and freeze it in large batches. My older girl who used to have arthritis now runs with my younger dog. They also get kelp and cod liver oil.
@@ocsweetputube Boiling the brown rice, like pasta, removes about 60% of the arsenic. All dogs are different. The bigger the dog, the more they can tolerate. Dogs digestive systems are stronger than a human to handle bacteria, minerals, etc. It's up to the owner to decide.

When I go for a walk with my dog in the meadows, in late autumn he picks and eats a few rose hips from the bush 🤣 and he loves chewing some mint leafs, barley grass
Haven't heard of the lemon grass yet, but got in a bit of a dispute on another forum once, specifically on deworming. I stubbornly did a bunch of research, through a lot of old studies, back before pH Arma owned most researchers. Should have compiled it. I'm talking grainy digitized microfiche. There was a bunch of solid evidence, for a lot of simple, cheap, natural dewormers. Joel Salidin swears that just running chickens with his cattle he doesn't need to deworm, something just unheard of. People like him and the Doc here, I respect.
Vegetables and fruits are great for deworming dogs. They contain high levels of fibre which help to bulk up the stools and expel the worms. Pumpkin, carrots, sweet potatoes, apples & papaya are all excellent choices. Feeding your dog a couple of these a day will help to clean them out and keep them healthy. Ginger is natural for parasitic infections!
I freeze one can pumpkin in an ice cube tray (makes 16 servings) and use one cube/day with a spoon of plain greek yogurt on kibble, my girl loves it and eats the kibble last!
Awesome video! I found sardines packed in water, great quality, at Trader Joe's, and my dog loves it. I didn't know about the kale, and will try that too with carrots. I totally forgot about the chicken livers... that's incredibly inexpensive and nutritious add to their meal.... thanks for all of the great tips. Peace❤
Hi Doc. I'm from the Philippines. I ordered all your supplements except the CBD oil which is illegal here. My dog is 8 years old and is doing great. I also follow your dog nutrition diet. Thank you for everything.

I've been feeding my twelve-year-old Minpinzu homemade organic food since I saw your video about 3 years ago. I add your Ultimate Canine supplement and he is doing great! No kibble here!
Awesome information I’ve always given my poodle cross 1 teaspoon of ground flaxseeds stops any itching and I only ever bath him with clean water and he smells so soft and clean I don’t think dogs should be bathed in shampoo it’s can’t be natural for there skin. But now I’m going to add some sardines what a wonderful idea and not expensive.Your advise is so helpful thanks Elaine nz

I cook for my dogs. Once a week I make a batch. It consist of 3 parts chicken(de boned, de skinned after cooking), 3 parts veggies, 1,5 part whole grain pasta, or brown rice, cooked in the chicken stock. This they get every evening. In the morning they have their kibble.
Thanks for your channel, you're really onto something here, and ironically much of your nutritional advice transfers directly to the humans involved as well, no dah! Except for the kibble part LOL. Since a previous dog who seemed almost human died of cancer, and I came to the same conclusion that it was from the commercial food diet, I've included our current dog YOGI in what we eat, balancing protein, carbs and fibery fresh veges to the kibble he gets as well. He got his name from the yogurt (and cottage cheese) that his longtime breeder in Maine recommended. The obvious side benefit is that I've gotten smarter and more focused about my own diet. Cheers!
One thing I do. I save the meat bones we eat off of and put then in the freezer instead of throwing them away. When I have enough, I use them to make bone broth for my dog. I add that to her food.
Great advice and my little Shih Tzu Harley loves his boiled eggs and chicken livers and now I'm going to try the sardines and olive oil along with other suggestions from you. Thank you so much and thank you little Ms Tula 💗❤️❤️
When we had ducks, we used to add an egg to the dogs food. They loved it. They usually get any of our left over meals if it is okay for dogs. They love raw carrot especially when I am pealing them, the dogs line up to eat the carrot peel. Here in the UK they get fed on Harringtons kibble (wheat free as dog has allergy to wheat) along with tinned dog meat. If suitable for them, they also get any leftovers from our meals.
My two Romanian rescues love raw meats , chicken wings... basically any raw meat . I'm cutting down on lidls/Aldi dry dog food , adding raw meat when I can along with carrots . They love dried rabbit ears , and dried sardines (Amazon's) , as well as tinned sardines. I was told they were three when I adopted them ....five years on and thankfully no health problems . No vet visits either for jabs , or flea treatments.....no fleas ❗ 🇬🇧✝️🆓
I add all kinds of leftover veggies to my dogs food…Spinach is really good for dogs too…I add that with chicken broth to the kibble….they usually love it. I sometimes add a couple sprinkles of grated parm. cheese too
My dogs absolutely LOVE organic cold pressed virgin Coconut oil! I even brush their teeth 3 times per week with it. I wonder if there is a limit on amount? 🤔
I got Olympic organic plain yoghurt. The ingredients are skim milk from grass fed cows, organic cream from grass, fed cows, skim milk powder, active bacterial culture, including probiotic culture, and. bifidobacterium.
I've been including most of these items in my dogs diet for a few years. Although, I feed them a mostly raw diet (pumpkin is the exception), so they get raw chicken liver, raw whole sardines, raw farm-fresh organic chicken eggs with the shell membrane, raw carrots and absolutely no kibble 😉. Plus a bunch of other stuff not related to this video.
I refuse to use kibble after my last two dogs both got cancer using store kibble. I make all the food for my two dogs from scratch and there has been significant improvements in health benefits for my dogs and my cats. I had a cat that was fat overweight and had bathroom problems all from being on a kibble diet. He’s lost the weight and no longer has bathroom troubles after eating the homemade food in just 3 months
Honestly I wait for food on sale for myself and buy some extra for my dogs. Like in the Indian and middle eastern grocery stores they have great prices for meat. Lamb ribs. If our intention to feed our dogs healthy food there are options. I rescue dogs and if I can do it with 3 big Shephards and an always hungry chocolate lab I’m sure everyone else can supplement their babies too.
My border collie has scrambled eggs for breakfast , and 100% hamburger with some veg for lunch and supper. Pure Balance Lamb & Rice available if she wants it. Vet says her coat is the most beautiful he has ever seen.
Please do a similar vid for cats. My kitty yells at me as i prepare vegetables, tofu lol of course she gets some including plain canned pumpkin - she’s a senior but has no clue going strong as ever!
Eats it raw? I just started this making homemade for my dog. I cut up tiny pieces of steamed broccoli and mixed it in with his food. He is bad at eating grass. I hope this works. Thankd
I feed my dogs sardines when I give them Ivermectin by mouth to prevent heart worms. They ❤️ love sardines. I have chickens,so unending supply of eggs. Sometimes they eat them raw,but they love them scrambled. Once in a while they get a quality peanut butter sandwich. Probably not too healthy, but Vienna sausages once in a while😌 .
Thank you for these wonderful videos. Coincidentally, the past few days, I had fed my dog a “casserole” of carrots, a dog food with chicken liver in it, pumpkin, olive oil, and some brown rice. Sometimes, I give her tuna fish, too. How much tuna is safe to give dogs? Thanks!
I started making my own dog food to add to my dogs kibble but I have 5 dogs and one has constipation issues and I make with hamburger, a can of pumpkin, 3 eggs ,a can of sardines and riced cauliflower with my 5 lbs of cooked hamburger and also organic oatmeal, really helped my standard poodle before had to give her pumpkin or olive oil on top of her kibble now just make half of their food
With prayer and coconut oil I was able to heal my cat of cat leukemia. She took to eating a small amount of the oil really well in the beginning, but then I opened the next jar of the oil and she refused it and has not eaten it since. I am concerned about what they've done to make my fussy cat refuse to eat it. 1:31
Thanks again, Doc. I love it when I buy and cook these items for my dog, feed it to him, I leave the room and come back later, only to find again and again he eats around all the extra good nutricious stuff you're recommending. Tonight I'm going to mix some pumpkin puree in with a little vanilla ice cream and see how that goes. He seems to be having some stomach issues which has me worried... the perfect supplement for my high blood pressure... and he's only a year and a half old.
I don’t have hbp but have had debilitating anxiety; I find that tactical breathing, prayer, and when need be the chant of “I’m a good dog owner and I’m doing the best I know how” while getting their food ready helps keep me less worried. Hope that helps!
@@nadirabotwin7435 Thanks for your reply. The overshadowing problem is that 2 Years ago last month the dog I loved with all my heart passed from cancer after I've had him for 12 years. I'm teary eyed just typing this. In his declining days I spent most every moment in tears. Now that I have this Labradoodle and when he shows signs of not eating his meals, no matter what the reason, I get sick, worried and can't help recalling the loss of my last and most wonderful dog. You're not alone in the anxiety over you beloved dog... life without a K9 Best Friend is a worse fate. Best of health to you and yours.
This is great! Thanks, I may share this video in future. Our vet also recommended scrambled eggs and to include the crushed shell. Would the egg shell provide a calcium boost?
Great video. Will begin with some of these for my 13-year-old JRT mix. One question - she is diabetic. Would the pumkin, sweet potatoes, and carrots be detrimental to her maintaining a low insulin level?
Thank you for your love of animals and sharing your wealth of knowledge. Do you have any homemade dog recipes that are available to make? I realize certain supplements/minerals are necessary to add to this- please advise or give a link. Blessings!
I always cook for my dogs, I never use much dog food. I used Blue Buffalo chicken and brown rice. I ran out and bought Supper Premium it was very good Turkey, Set potatoes and fruit and veggies. Wrong it gave Nina a GI issue. So after 2 days she recovered. This was purely my fault, I'm going back to way I've always done things. None of my dogs have EVER gotten sick. As a rescuer I get recalls almost every day.
Thank you for the great video! So, I can add egg, olive oil, ground flax and yogurt to my dog every day? Do I reduce his kibble portion? And he is 7 months
Hello, Thank You soooo much I will try the Sardins, cooked Egg, Sweet Potatoes. Slow slow because he is a Senior 14.5 Years old Chihuahua. Many Greetings from Germany
@@VeterinarySecrets Ja, Hello, thank you so much for what you are doing. In my Doggies case it is not so easy because he have no Teeths anymore. Hmmm. So I think Sardins etc. is soft like Thunfish. I was writing to you sometimes with my Smartphone on "RUclips with my "extra RUclips Adress" . Many Greetings 🐾 🐾
is there a good diet for my pup who is having a high level of liver enzymes. vet gave her denamarin but she decided she didn't like it anymore and spits it out! Thanks for the channel!
Good information. Maybe do a cat video? My cats eat mostly homemade or some wet food. They get a tin of sardines or red salmon once a week. Wild caught, packed in water. They won't eat liver, raw or cooked. I do mix in a little pumpkin with their food. They sometimes eat a little broccoli.
My dog gets 30-50% of her diet from commerical kibble and the rest is what I eat with some raw foods a few times a week (mostly chicken, such as drumsticks). I eat healthy. Nothing fried. Cooked using microwave or conventional oven, mostly, with sparing use of olive or avocado oils. I eat mostly fish (salmon, cod, trout, mackerel), shrimp, canned sardines, some chicken, occasional pizza, nuts (pumpkin seeds, cashews, pistachios), rice, various potatoes, in season fruits and vegetables. My dog gets weighted at least once a week and the diet gets adjusted to maintain ideal body weight. This diet guarantees proper minimal baseline nutrition (due to the kibble) and because the kibble is only one third of her diet, any problems with the kibble (past recalls due to Vitamin D and melamine contaminants) won't kill my dog. Also, my dog has a sense of smell that's 100-1000x better than mine, and I want her to enjoy eating the good stuff. She drools when waiting for my "scraps", which she does not do with the kibble. Also this diet is cheaper and probably healthier than a 100% raw diet, with the added benefit that I've lost weight. Too much red meat is bad for humans and I would have to imagine this will be true for dogs, as they are only facultative carnivores, domesticated and genetically distinct from wolves, with redundant ability to process carbohydrates. This sort of diet would be what the first dogs would have eaten some 10,000-30,000 years ago. In regards to their diet, what helps dogs survive long enough to propagate the species is different when comparing earlier dogs to modern dogs that don't have the same survival pressures, who now needs a diet optimized for long life. Having said all this, both of us will get a bite of a hamburger or steak several times a year, which she almost always prefers cooked.
At dinner time I give Miska a little bit of kibble N&D and then on top of it I give her either chicken, turkey or fish, and then she’ll have either brussels sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli, or carrots, and sometimes I give her the whites of a boiled egg. In the morning I give her a little bit of canned food Ziwi peak or rawz but now that ziwi peak want $10 a can I am giving her Rawz or first mate with her supplements. I tried to find the package chicken liver. They don’t seem to have any in the stores that go to. And I go to Walmart, Sobeys, and superstore.. and I also give her goats milk. She really likes that.
Thank you Dr. Jones for this information!! I do add additional 'human' food to my dog's kibble daily. I appreciate having this list to know what additional items I can give her. I give my dog a raw egg daily. Should I be cooking them??
Hi Dr. Jones! Awesome information as always! I want to take my pup out of kibble. Im just scared because I don’t want him to loose some of the vitamins and minerals. What vitamin do you suggest for complimenting homemade meals? Thank you!!
I'm no vet , but I wouldn't trust kibble to provide vitamins or minerals . Not since I've learnt that most dried and wet dog food , is more harmful than beneficial for dogs . Or jabs ❗ Lots of online for info regarding this ...Good luck 🤞
Thank you. I started recently to add cooked poultry to the kibble, sometimes I cook chicken hearts as addition. Dr. Jones, shouldn't the flax seed be ground freshly every time?
Lol, this is healthy human food too! Our dog has a very expensive dog food, but also enlisted to do dishes, so he gets most of this (bar chicken liver) on a daily basis, in addition to his own supply of (human) tinned fish - such as salmon.
What do you think about a dog food called A Taste Of Wild.? That's what I have been giving my dog's for years. Amen I been poisoning my dogs with out knowing it? I would love to have a copy of your book. Thank you for all your great advice 🙏🙏🌹🌹🌹
I dislike sardines and chicken livers so thats is a no go. I have bought chicken breast on sale. My dog gets most of it. This video has help me to know more about people food I can give him. I do give him some hard dog food. Pedigree for small dogs. So the eggs are hard boiled and you can give them the egg shell too? Raw or cooked carrots? Growing up our dog got table food. Anything and everything and never seen a vet. She was never sick and died at 13 or 14. I would appreciate any help I can get. Inflation is really tough. Thanks.

I had a cat that was fat overweight and had bathroom problems all from being on a kibble diet. He’s lost the weight and no longer has bathroom troubles after eating the homemade food in just 3 months
Thank you so much for the information. Sweet potato and egg is popular with my toy poodle but will have to try a few more. ❤
Impressive! Thank you for sharing your experience and encouraging others to prioritize their pets' nutrition too. ❤️
My border collie has scrambled eggs for breakfast , and 100% hamburger with some veg for lunch and supper. Pure Balance Lamb & Rice available if she wants it. Vet says her coat is the most beautiful he has ever seen.
Do you cook the meat?
@@lorieengustian4820 yes.
I go to the discount shelf 50% off things like fresh blueberries, also frozen a great option.
That's a savvy approach! Finding discounted fresh and frozen options like blueberries is a smart way to provide nutritious treats. ❤️
Thank you for the wonderful information for my little poodle. ❤
You're an international treasure! Thank you!
Please do a similar vid for cats. My kitty yells at me as i prepare vegetables, tofu lol of course she gets some including plain canned pumpkin - she’s a senior but has no clue going strong as ever!
Thank you for the great video.
Thank you! ❤️
I make a one-pot rice dish, with 1 lb of ground turkey, some mixed frozen veggies or just frozen peas and four cups of rice
Too much starch, ditch the rice.
I second this. Ditch the rice or make it a minimum, and make sure it’s brown rice.
Thanks for all you do for our beloved pets. What are your thoughts on Carna4?
Thank you once again. Amazing. My dog likes raw broccoli 🥦 stalks. Keeps her from eating grass. 😱
You're my dogs vet! We love you. Thank you for all your posts.❤
Thanks!
Awesome video-thank you! Quantities, frequency and preparation. Thank you!!
Hi Doc!! Is the chicken liver cooked? I think so??! But just checking. Great video! Thanks for the information! You ROCK!!
Thank u my dog won't eat know dog food
Thank you for sharing this information
Love Tula!!! 💜
Great video! Thanks Dr. Jones!
Thank you Dr Jones❤
Hey Doc, Thank you so very much for your contributions to the community! Do you have any home cooked meal recipes for puppies? Thanks again
Be sure to use a magnet on any meat, even if it’s labeled organic because sometimes they supplement with seed that has graphing oxide a big no-no
Thank you!
Holy moly! After researching this, I'm freaked out! Thanks for the heads up.
What do you mean? Use a magnet? 🧲 Run it over it?!?
Great information. Thanks
THANK YOU
Thank you 😊
Thank you for your love of animals and sharing your wealth of knowledge. Do you have any homemade dog recipes that are available to make? I realize certain supplements/minerals are necessary to add to this- please advise or give a link. Blessings!
Many thanks. Great suggestions.🐾🐾
Great work
I gave all that to my dogs my dogs are Chihuahuas and one small poodle
I always cook for my dogs, I never use much dog food. I used Blue Buffalo chicken and brown rice. I ran out and bought Supper Premium it was very good Turkey, Set potatoes and fruit and veggies. Wrong it gave Nina a GI issue. So after 2 days she recovered. This was purely my fault, I'm going back to way I've always done things. None of my dogs have EVER gotten sick. As a rescuer I get recalls almost every day.
lol well that is probably normal. I bet you wouldnt feed it PASTA, or ground meat with sloppy joes lol like my dumb dad.
Thank you for the great video! So, I can add egg, olive oil, ground flax and yogurt to my dog every day? Do I reduce his kibble portion? And he is 7 months
Thanks for sharing ❤
Hello, Thank You soooo much I will try the Sardins, cooked Egg, Sweet Potatoes. Slow slow because he is a Senior 14.5 Years old Chihuahua. Many Greetings from Germany
Hello! You're very welcome. That sounds like a wonderful plan! 😊
@@VeterinarySecrets Ja, Hello, thank you so much for what you are doing. In my Doggies case it is not so easy because he have no Teeths anymore. Hmmm. So I think Sardins etc. is soft like Thunfish. And every Friday he becomes some tiny pieces from Seelachsfilet (¿Seasalmonfilet) he loves it!!!!
Do you feel better 🙏 with your broken shoulder????
There is much more to come, with videos that appeal to both cat and dog lovers alike.
Thank you so much 😊
My dog gets 30-50% of her diet from commerical kibble and the rest is what I eat with some raw foods a few times a week (mostly chicken, such as drumsticks).
Excellent!
Hi does it matter if egg is white shell or not? Can they still eat the shell of brown? sorry new to this stuff! ❓❓❓
Can you explain the guarantee analysis on a dog food bag please
Great video…can you do one for cats too?
I was looking for a comment just like this!
Doc, what do you think of cornbread? My dogs LOVE it, mine has no wheat, and the meal is boiled before baked.
Yes it is safe and yummy
@@VeterinarySecrets awesome
That is great. I go on about cats not needing corn and my two goofballs will eat cornbread or the corn tortilla of a tamale if I let them. 😜
@@edschulhof6303 lol
Or jabs ❗
Lots of online for info regarding this ...Good luck 🤞
Excellent 👍🏼💯💯 TY for this! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🐕🦺🦮🐕
What do you think about a dog food called
A Taste Of Wild.?
Thanks.
Are any of these food off the table if liver enzymes are a little high?
Fantastic 🎉
Thanka!!!
Boiled eggs and Sardines... Ok gotcha.. Quick question, what does Tula not like? 😂🐶🤣
