- Today we are finally getting around to working on the wifes ride. Been putting off fixing the oil pressure sensor P0520 code and we will be talking about why I recommend replacing the sensor and not testing it first. I have my reasons and will explain as we go. Thanks for everyone that has been waiting patiently for more videos.

Welcome back David. I enjoy seeing your diagnostic skills in these videos, hoping I never need to try it myself, or take it to you. Your common sense approach is a relief to many others besides me. Thanks for your efforts. Stay healthy and safe.
Dave, great to see you back on YT. Your objectivity and professionalism is always appreciated.
Many thanks Brandon! It feels great and I need to keep rolling with it.
Hey David . So very nice to see you after a while. I’m glad you got time to look into your wife’s car amid COVID 19. Stay safe and blessed. Keep your awesome content continually coming our way. Thanks.
Thanks Dave! I sure will and just happy to be doing this again.
Nice to see you back! I hope everything is good with you and your Family. Another well done video!
I like how you talk to your people out here. Thank you
Your welcome and thanks for the comment. Make sure to subscribe
Impressed with you're break down at the very end. Refreshing to hear.
Welcome back David. Glad you lingered over that TSB so that I could see my 2011 200 is not on the list! Carry on - we all appreciate your videos.
Good to see you back David. Another great video !
Great to see you back on your channel. Glad you made this maiden voyage in the new shop. Congrats on your new journey and hope for great success.
Many thanks. I do need to do a few videos related to the new shop and actually that was the new shop in the video lol. Again....many thanks!
I'm a Super Frugal Gal on a limited income and can't thank you enough for this Wonderful Tutorial! Luckily I have the 5.7 Hemi rather than the 3.6, making this repair much easier to accomplish. WOOHOO! AND THANKS AGAIN!!!
Great video. I found a good mechanic. My check engine light came on after getting gas. After checking my gas cap the light was still on. I called my buddy who told me ( as you said) the parts store will test it for me for free. It was the P0520. Thanks for the tip.
Your welcome!
Excellent information Dave. The TSB and your experience saved a lot of time on this one. Hope your well.
I have a 2007 Chrysler Aspen Limited Edition with a 5.7 HEMI with the same issue. Man THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video location of the sensor, the tools needed, and the reassurance of fixing the issue 👍🏿
Thank you David. Have a blessed and safe week to you and your family.
Many thanks Billy! The same to you as well.
Great video!! Also, thanks for the chat at the end. I have taken a code printout and still have been charged for the 2 minute diagnosis. Further, I appreciate that you mentioned torque wrenches lose a little precision with extensions, etc.
Good vid. Someone told me i would have to remove the oil filter. Good thing i watched it first, saved me the cost of an oil change!!
Hey man, great to see you back on YT!
Great video David always great info for Dodge and Chrysler owners! Stay safe!
Good to see another video from you. Thanks. I can relate to seeing the pattern. The City I worked for always bought the same type vehicles in quantity, Dodge Diplomat and Ford Crown Victoria's, back in the day, Dodge, Ford and Chevy Trucks. After awhile we knew from the complaint what the problem was going to be.
I watch 5 other videos like this, but THIS one was the best and most helpful!!
Thanks a million!! 👍👍
Awesome! Glad I came thru for you. Thanks for eventually finding my channel. Make sure to subscribe and check out my other vids as well.
Refreshing to hear an honest mechanic. I try to fix my own junk, don't even have one of these but very cool content, thanks brother. Keep up the good work
this guy has the best videos! Hes helped me a lot with my 06 Charger RT repairs! 👍
Always happy to help and thanks for the kind words
Having the exact same codes come up on my 2008 Ram 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi. Just ordered the sensor after watching this video. Hopefully replacing the sensor fixes it. I'll find out in a little while. Thanks a bunch! Great video
The best mechanic on RUclips considering now I own a grand caravan and a ram 1500. You and Eric O. From southmain auto channel are the only 2 car guys I listen too
Many thanks. I dont feel worthy to be included with Eric O. That man is a genius when it comes to working on cars. I appreciate the kind words and make sure to subscribe.
Thank you for making these videos, appreciate your time and effort to help people like me
Thanks. Easy to follow and very good description on how to fix the problem. Good video.
Glad to see you back David
soooooo glad to be back. Its a struggle to get started again but once you do it becomes exciting again.
Great vid and good to see you back on youtube! The new shop looks nice!
So happy to be back and to be in my new shop. Hope it does well. Thanks for watching.
Same problem I have in my 2012 Dodge Durango RT, I am glad I have a scan tool . Great video bro👌🏽!
I traded my my 2008 patriot for a 2020 compass last week. Did so many small projects on my Patriot thanks to you.
I am always soooo glad to see the videos helping people. Thanks for following the channel.
Dave that was another outstanding video. please keep up the good work.
Thanks Jim! Thanks for checking the new video out.
Good perspective, nice to know info and repair technique. Thank you!
Hi David...I hope everything is going well..it’s along time to see you guys and your video..great video..god bless you..thank you...and have a good day 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Welcome to my RUclips education. I just subscribed but have followed you on Instagram for a bit now. I'm a 25 year mechanic & have been off work since early February with back trouble. I have been educating myself via RUclipsrs in my downtime. I look forward to watching the rest of your videos. And congrats on your new #shoplife. Blessings & best wishes to you.
Indeed brother indeed, thank you for time and efforts.
Thanks David. Nice to see another vid out from you!
Glad to be back in the saddle. Thanks for watching Jake.
Great mechanic video. I watch a lot of mechanic videos and this is very detailed with great photography
Great video David! Congrats on the new shop.
Many thanks! I appreciate the feedback
Very professional and straight forward, thanks
Oh man im so glad you are back. Need more videos on the chrysler 300 2015 and newer please. You are my youtube go to mechanic.
Another great video! My dealer usually shows me that sheet and gives me recommendations/options as my vehicle is still under warranty. I do have another vehicle that is out of warranty and they do the same for that one. A lot of times repair shops will not charge for diog fees if they do the work. I understand they are a business and I have no issues w/ that.
Glad to see that they go that extra step to explain things to you. Seems a lot of shops look out for the customer when it comes to diag....I know we charged for it but the rate was $85.00 for diag. We as techs could say to not charge diag on something but most techs didnt.
Afternoon
Great detailed video
That’s so funny you helped me with this same problem like 2 years ago with my 2005 dodge magnum rt 5.7 hemi :)
Yes, please charge that customer diagnostic time. Must have video on though. I gotta watch that!
Congratulations on the new shop.
Very good of you to have a moral code!
I try to keep their wallets in mind when possible. I know some repairs are expensive and not something everyone can afford.
Nice video bro! Glad to see ya back and hope the new shop is working out well!
Shop is awesome. Some smaller details need to be worked on but its a joy to have your own place. Just need the customers to come in. Thanks for reaching out!
Fantastic video, great Mechanic
Thanks again David !
Perfect timing on your video! Wife’s 5.7 Hemi 2014 GC started throwing the 520 code a couple months ago and I delayed working on the replacement until I could find a good video that was specific to the engine. Yours is the best I’ve found; simple, straightforward and accurate. 👍
Great video, stay safe, healthy and vigilant
Many thanks and you do the same as well!
Nice to have a vid from u. It almost looks like u built your own shop. New rack etc. Or the Dealer set u up. Hope the kids r doing well. And your stepchild, the PT Cruiser.
Had some big changes happen to the channel. I plan on doing some videos soon related to that. Thanks for always watching each video that I create Bill!
Great video as usual.
Been a while David. Good to see your doig fine
Great video as always
Awesome, your first shop video, great job, nice shop.
Many thanks. I need to eventually do a video on the shop and the big change with leaving the dealership.
Fantastic thoughts on the code-reading cost/no charge, dilemma. Thanks for this vid. May come in handy for my Ram Sport one day. Happy sub. Kick ass wrist band too. 🇨🇦👍🏼
Thanks Barry. Never thought I would wear a wristband but love it. The second one is one that my daught got me for christmas on year so you know I'm wearing it for sure.
As a professional medium/heavy truck mechanic myself, I really enjoy your videos. You must not live in the rust belt?
No rust on a 2014? My wife’s 2013 Durango is loaded with rust underneath.
That ethical question on what to charge is a tough one. I am impressed that you mentioned the torque variation due to the extension. Keep up the great work and videos.
Luckily I live in Georgia so not much rust here....only issue is the heat in the summer. I think it scares the rust and makes it move north lol. Thanks for watching and for touching on those points.
Awesome video . Thanks for the help.
Great video man , right to the point with all the info I needed thanks. shop wanted to charge me 300 buckeroos for this, now I can do this myself thanks 🙏
Great video David as always Brother hope your doing well
refreshing indeed, good quick video, thank you for the help. Straight to the point vs these other garage yahoos!
Yo i have dodge durango citadel 2011 so yes I'm glad you pop up. My engine light has not come on yet so thanks and yes I will go into the link and order that. I will hit up on the next issue.
Thank you
It’s always good to know just Incase. Thanks for the comment and for watching. Make sure to subscribe if you haven’t already
Thanks for the easy walk through. Changed mine on my 16 Durango RT.
For anyone reading who doesnt have a lift, I just propped up one side like I'm changing a tire, and changed it with a 1 1/16 head on a normal ratchet near the opening of the oil filter, not back by the oil pan. It's a little tight but it works. You don't NEED to buy an extension
Also if you're having issues unclamping it (like me), use a long flathead screwdriver to push the button while your other hand pulls.
Hey Dave ,welcome back >> missed your great videos > getting close to that 100 k mark
Looks like 2 more months! Cant wait....its a milestone for me for sure. Now to keep at it and make it even bigger. Thanks for supporting and for following the channel!
Good content. When I noted the oil pressure on my wife's 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee w/5.7l hemi was 96 all the time, I assumed the pressure sensor was bad. The P0520 was the initial indicator. My connector had a secondary lock, but overall I had no issues replacing it myself.
I had this same sensor go on my 2014 ram 5.7 while it was under warranty. It was early on too like within 6 months of owning it. They replaced it free of charge and nothing else has gone on it since. It's been a great truck (so far) knock on wood.
Thank You same issue on my 2013 grand Cherokee 5.7L. Easy!
Awesome video David! Must have felt really good to do that in your own shop 😎
It sure did man.....hard to get use to knowing "thats your lift" your picking that vehicle up with. Still hasnt fully set in yet.
MotorCity Mechanic I can already see the quality level has gone up on the video. This is going to be big for you. Congrats!
The engineers need to be shot for the placement on the 3.6. I've been needing to replace this part on mine but I'm dreading it. I thank very much for videos you've out over the years! My Durango has been my favorite vehicle I've owned and finding your videos so that I can work on it has truly been helpful!
The way it always works is if its easy to get to, it will never fail. Its the hard ones that will fail the most lol. Thanks for watching and for being a subscriber
thank you for a great information and explanation
Your welcome and thanks for checking it out.
Good to see an explanation of the difference between retrieving a code and do you do further diagnostic. Thanks for the factory spec for torque as well. Probably could cheat your way to the end, but if you got the wrench, use it. 100% the truth about a mechanic who works on anything with 4 wheels and someone who knows make/model/engine by experience. If you want or need to pay for a fix, you probably better off with a mechanic it's not his first rodeo. After someone doesn't fix something right, do you really want to bring it back to try again. Thanks for sharing the truth.
Good Job! Much easier than the Pentastar.
Thank you berry much your the berry best out there this fix my oil pressure oil sensor your #1
It's been a while bro. Welcome back. Another informative vid, though anything Chrysler is a pretty sparse ask in Australia. But the system of replacement is applicable to many. Regarding the initial diagnostic fee, only dealers charge but the cost is extortion. Minimum $250 AUD just to pull the codes. And they question why their workshops are abandoned by customers ! I purchased my own highend scanner ,originally for my personal use ,but a bottle of top shelf single malt Australian whisky may influence your chances of my assistance ! Look after your family and yourself in these difficult times. 👍👍🇦🇺
Haha....I have been bribed with beer in the past. Some shops dont charge you if you do the repair while others do on top of the repair. For me its a case by case basis. Thanks for watching and great hearing from the land down under!
Brother God Bless You.
God bless you man great video 💖
Many thanks for the kind words!
Great video. Thank you very much!!👍
Your welcome and thank you as well!
Is this the same on a 08 charger 5.7 ? Dude your video was much better than others I seem ..
Hey, great to see a new video from you. Where you lack in quantity you make up for in quality. Curious... Is the new sensor an updated part number or revised in some way or are you replacing with the same part that is prone to failure?
First video in the new shop? Looks amazing man!
As far as the diag with a TSB. The second step in the diag process is to check for publications. If there is a publication like in this situation, I would pay the tech 1 hour, charge the customer half an hour just b.c. we would have to actually test drive and confirm it fixed it on the back end with a test drive. Just how we would do it.
Fair enough. I like that method. One thing I didnt add and wish I did was first perform a good visual inspection to make sure no obvious damage like chewed or damaged wires. These thoughts come up after finishing the video like always lol. Great to hear from you Kurt!
u were born to teach. thks
Thanks very good video 👍👍🛠️🇨🇦
good job
Excellent and thorough video thanks. Would that be the same on a 2012 Ram 1500 5.7?
Hola David...
Qué bueno ver tus videos, porque ayudan en mantener en buenas condiciones los motores.
Cuándo ha es un video en español.
Saludos desde Guatemala.
Great explanation... Just one issue. My 2013 def has a 2-stage locking connector. Yours looks like the same shell but your red cross-lock is missing. I busted the hell out of my connector trying to remove it.
Me sirvio tu video grasias
Awesome vid David 👍
My Dodge Charger 3.5 has missing problem when driving cold when its warm runs fine no codes at all, I've changed spark plugs, valve cover gasket, fuel pumps, cam and crank sensor. Last thing I changed was coolant temp sensor but that didn't fix it though when I disconnect the coolant temp sensor the missing goes away and the aux fan switches on and feels it's fixed
Any help will be greatly appreciated
Thanks for having me try to pull the connector off for 40 minutes tell I see there is a secondary lock tab that’s red and has to be pulled first
Hi David, I had the same 2 codes come up on my 2015 Charger RT with the 5.7L. Oil pressure was reading 99psi all the time. I replaced the sensor and the oil pressure reads fine again. I cleared the codes but the check engine light keeps coming ON for the same 2 codes. AlfaOBD says that monitor cycle tests haven't been completed yet. Any ideas on how to get rid of both codes?
Have you moved to another shop ? Glad your back
Great info in all of your videos...Much appreciated!! Got a question though, will the torque setting be the same for the oil pressure sensor on the Jeep JK 3.6? I just replaced the oil cooler on our 2014 jeep jk for the second time. First was at about 124,000 miles. I went with the mopar part from the dealer. This second time I ordered parts from rock auto .com Much cheaper than factory. Installed the new cooler with all the sensors already installed (all new parts came installed on the new oil cooler assembly)...The next day, I start getting a P0520 code which says its the oil pressure switch. UGH!!!!! Never ordering from rock auto again!
A "Lazy" Honest Ethical Technician?!! 😆😆😆
Very nice video! Great presentation!😁👍
One thing about mechanics......you will find a 1000 different versions lol. Some looking out for you and some looking out for themselves. Thanks for watching!
@@MotorCityMechanic So True! Honestly, I don't trust Dealership Servicing Departments. And videos like yours (Scotty Kilmers, Chris Fix, and South Main Auto) allow us to repair our own autos with confidence and insight that we otherwise wouldn't have. And yes, there will be times when well need to take our autos to a mechanic- that's a given. But it's nice to know there are HONEST MECHANICS OUT THERE!! Thanks for your videos! 😁👍👍👍
David I got a question, been looking for a diagram for a 2014 Dodge Durango 3.6 V6 Not HEMI, I have the same issue but can't find the P0520 Oil pressure switch. My oil filter is on top of the engine block
please help man. Thank you
I’ve got a 2012 Jeep Wrangler unlimited with the po520 code and I need to replace that sensor but wouldn’t be best to replace the whole oil cooler housing I’m your opinion or not?
Common problem in 5.7L Jeep Grand Cherokees. I've had it twice in my 07 Grand Cherokee with the 5.7L hemi. I checked the pressure each time and it was normal. One tip: use only Mopar sensor replacement. I tried a BWD from Advance Auto and two different ones didn't work.
I thought about that as well and wish I had. Thats the main reason I try to only use Mopar replacement parts. I just dont trust the quality of the "DIY auto parts stores".
Hey Motorcity mechanic.
My wife’s 14 GC with a 5.7 shows like 3 psi of oil pressure with the engine off. No CEL has ever came on though.
Could these bad oil pressure sensors cause that to happen?
Replaced with auto zone sensor and immediately had a code, then replaced with factory sensor now has a check engine and oil light on. Any suggestions?
Just fixed this on my 2007 Grand Cherokee 5.7, got the P0520 code. I hooked up my Autel to it to read both oil pressure and the voltage output of the sensor. What I learned was that the oil pressure readings were normal but voltage output seemed erratic, maybe that is what set the code. Next I found that the sending unit was leaking oil into the connector and the terminals were oil soaked. Maybe that's what caused the erratic readings. So I cleaned out the terminal with contact cleaner and dried with compressed air. Lastly some of the OP sending units have that shape with the rounded corners but some (like my original) have a standard hex shape. Guess what, the oil pressure sending unit tool won't fit those you need a deep well 1 1/16" socket lol. Alls well that ends well.....
Glad you got that issue fixed….common item. Yeah sometimes it’s best to have both sockets just incase
Hey Dr. David! Long time no see! Hope all is well.
