    IMPORTANT
Dakar have hit me with a copyright strike so ive had to delist some of the videos just in case
i guess they got pissed that mine were better
because of the MOTOGP one before xmas that means im really vulnerable now and the channel could be removed at any time
I have set up this backup channel so please go and follow it NOW,
this could all be removed at any moment now so it is critical to stay in touch via the backup channel here
    ruclips.net/channel/UCCSl6i-tZJNC5DQ38vgCtvw
sorry for this if i get another strike it wipes out all my work
all my old videos will be removed
I wont be posting anything much on the new channel unless this goes down
but this is a just in case because it really could go down at any point
the videos are still visible if you have a link so if you have problems message me for links
so you can still watch them,
if you follow the channel and this one gets taken down you will be able to find me there
sorry if thats a bit garbled
ive just woken to this but i guess i could have had the channel taken down already
    so i should be thankful
    ride free everyone

Glad you included the HD sporty in there . Been riding decades now from super reliable japanese to overpriced german to stylish italian bikes and , i have to say , my little underpowered , loud af sporty is by far the most fun bike i have ever owned . i customise it to my liking with virtually a new make up every year (3 winter months are perfect to work on the bike). It is so easy to maintain and service yourself, commute on it for 9 months of the year (it gets cold in Leeds) met some amazing people , who like me are addicted to the potato /potato/potato rumble. Joined the "sickness" and still do a 2500 miles trip to Europe every year . Sportsters are the Marmite of motorcycles

Great video and good choices. I think there is one other bike that has cult status, but tends to get overlooked because of its continued popularity: The Suzuki SV650. The SV has tons of character, it's as bulletproof as they come, it's crazy versatile, and $3,000US will land you a great used one all day long. There's one line that pops up in online discussions over and over again that I think says it all: "I never should have sold my SV." Honorable mention to the Honda Shadow 750 too.

I've been on 600cc sportbikes for 2 years and thought to get an old beat up sv as a daily run around. Loved it so much I sold my 600. Most times in recent history a Japanese brand has made a knock off Ducati it's resulted in an absolutely classic machine. Vtr1000 Firestorm is another good one for that category. Essentially a more burly sv650

Definitely not the VMax. Not the 1200 nor the 1700. I own both. Absolut fabulous bikes with huge community given to the relatively small amount of sold bikes.
Those who know and are experienced enough to handle the VMax own at least one.
The others just repeat the BS that was and is spread by those who never made it to own one.
The VMax is a bike for experienced individualists, immune to the comments of the mainstreamers who need drive aids when the bike produces more than 50hp.
I still remember some comments from Ducatisti like 30 years ago about the 1200 V4 of the VMax.
Now, that Ducati found that way as well they praise the idea as if they would have invented Kryptonite.
VMax rules and everyone who owns one knows ans the others don't care
They will never understand that bike.

Most respectfully. It does not have a Cult like following, it is more like a Sect. Growing up in California the V-Max is kind of a drag bike that is reliable and cool. The Yamaha RD-350 and XS 750 have Cult like followings, in my reserved opinion.

Hi from Australia. I started riding in New Zealand in the early 70's and since then, I've owned 1970's Triumphs, until I bought a 1997 Sportster from a friend in 2009. It was an 883 and I knew very little about Sportsters back then, but I liked the bike for the fact that it was reminiscent of the Old Triumphs I loved; low down torque, as well as an appetite for high revs and a solid feel when belting through the bends in the mountain roads near home. The bike is now a 1275cc, with quite a few improvements I've made to the suspension and drivetrain in addition to the big bore kit. I did all the work myself and I now have a bike that I can honestly say I can't complain about in any way. I haven't yet run out of throttle, nor can I ground any part of it in a corner, without seriously risking running off the edge of the tread! Everything about the Bike as it now is, feels just right. The Carillo forged pistons in the Hammer Performance kit are perfectly balanced, which makes it FAR less uncomfortable to ride than the factory 1200's, so it's very smooth for a solid mounted engine. The 14" rear shocks and the 2-1 exhaust give me the ground clearance. A friend of mine has a gaggle of Laverdas and he is not impressed that he grinds on both sides when following me on mountain roads, while I don't touch anywhere. (He thinks it shouldn't be allowed)
I haven't bothered to it on a Dyno to check the HP and Torque, but I know that I have to be careful at the lights, not to wind it too hard, or the front wheel lifts easily. SInce this is an offence that can result in the Bike being confiscated and crushed under the laws of Victoria, I take care not to allow it to happen, but since the Sporty is 485lb, it's a a pretty good power to weight balance. The mileage improved too, after increasing capacity. Less throttle twist to get the same power is how that works and I get between 55 snd 60 mpg, where the 883 averaged 48-52. I'm using the stock 883 heads, which gives me a 1/4" squish band, and that makes for a more efficient burn, releasing more of the potential energy from the fuel. It means I have to rung the ignition about 3 degrees retarded (to avoid pre-detonation) and I have to use premium (98 octane) fuel, but it's worth it.
Although I have only owned Triumphs, a Norton 850 Interstate, and the Sportster, I've ridden many bikes throughout the years (some on here) and this is a pretty good list!
I really liked the footage of people punting Sportsters through some very nice looking twisties. One of my favourite things to do on mine! Keep the rubber side down mate!

What about Triumph’s T150 (Slippery Sam) it won the IOM five consecutive years 1971 - 1976 plus one more and all when the Japanese bikes were supposed to be kings, I’ve had five as well an X75 Hurricane starting in 1972 and not a CB750 or Z bike could keep up let alone catch me but then they don’t have a cult following, during the 80’s no one knew what my customised T150 was, the XS Yamaha’s handled like the frame was made of rubber and over here you wouldn’t be seen dead on a Sportster, unless you put a dress on that is but hey, they are the best sounding Harley and I do like the 1000cc AMF ones, I’ve had two and looking for another atm.

If I may add the Moto Guzzi stable of bikes here and in particular the big block loop frame subset. I had the great privilege of getting to ride a Stolarski prepared works kitted race bike, along with 750s and MK111 le mans 850. I also owned a V65TT (before adventure bikes were a mainstream thing) for a short period of time. There is something very unique about these bikes and the way they can just eat miles like there is no tomorrow. There are good aftermarket suppliers and a generally helpful online community. Unfortunately there is a trend to try and convert any big block into a Le Mans replica in the same way a lot of Ducati bevels tend to gravitate to being SS look alike s. I guess this says more about how good the originals were. I was perfectly happy to keep my 750GT pretty much stock without being a rivet counter or getting to precious about it.

In 1983, I rode a friends 1978 Fantic 125 Chopper, the feet forward riding position was strange for me as I owned a Triumph T160V at that time, the machine felt very light at the front end which was probably due to the long forks and small diameter front wheel. The top speed of these machines was a respectable 75 mph, which wasn't too bad for a 125 of the day, especially one that was in Chopper trim. These machines were considered a cult motorcycle from the day the first one rolled out of the Fantic factory, they are very collectable today and if you can find one for sale, it won't be cheap. A seventies oddity that I'm glad that I got he opportunity to ride one of them.

I've owned my aprilia falco for 13 years. You have mentioned this bike in a previous video.
The bike does have its problems, but owners are happy to give knowledge and experience on how to maintain these bikes.
The rotax v twin is an absolute joy but thirsty if on and off the throttle.
I've done track days and touring on this bike with runs to and from the coast for fish and chips and weekend riding.
The bikes massive torque saves on gear changes and using the brakes due to the engine breaking.
    It's a joy to ride.

Texas here & a lot of what/how these large manufacturers decide about an offering has a lot to do w/ things I know
little about. You guys have different motorcycle licenses I guess by "Class/Size" while we can just GET On any old
bike and go.....splat in many cases? They guess what we'll buy & tailor it according to Emissions(California law) &
that's what we get but every Nation has it's own sets of laws that change the offerings? As you've said, no matter
what I decide to do, there will be a "Click/Cult" of followers & experts on a given platform & they'll become how I
get more educated on a bike. I'm kinda excited at 62 yrs of age.... funny huh? I love it & peace man

I rode several motorcycles, I still have 3 and a sidecar for the winter. Mostly just for daily use because I get very bored in a car and I feel locked in these things.
BMW is a little undervalued by you I think. Air heads and some later models are very simple and reliable, but expensive when you need parts. The airheads are very practical, as the K 75.
You mentioned the MZ Skorion, I think it is practically ideal motorcycle and very underestmated. In corners they are surpriningly fast.
The Honda Pan Eiropean 1100 ( I had two of them) are very good even in corners but when you are driving very slowly a little heavy. Strangly enough is a HD Electra Glide easier when yoy have to drive slowly. Last: The cbr 1000 f is very reliable and the most stable bike I ever had. Even stormy weather does not disturb it’s chosen line.

So. Within the Cult of Honda, there is the Cult of
FIREBLADE but also within that cult you have sub groups of riders that favor a specific model of FireBlade.
I’ve never noticed any negative favoritism as within
The Cult of FireBlade we ALL seemingly love ALL FireBlades but definitely have our favorites as well.
I’ve been fortunate now to have 2 of the most obsessed over models,

I've been riding motorcycles all my life as my primary means of transport, ridden in all weathers. My top three in order of ownership were 1. The BSA A7SS 500 which was a reliable workhorse and a sidecar tug. No 2. was the much loved Royal Enfield 700 Super Meteor also a sidecar tug. No. 3 Is perhaps my favourite of them all, the Suzuki T500 Titan which I rode as a solo bike for many years and No.4 the Jawa 350 ridden solo and with sidecar. Finally No. 5 the amazing Kawasaki Vulcan Classic the cruiser that thinks its a sportbike and which I rode solo and also fitted with a Velorex sidecar to tug the missus in when long rides were the order of the day.
If I had to choose just the one I'd have to stick with the Suzuki because, for me, it was the perfect balance for daily rides and occasional backroad blasting. Its exactly the right size big enough for comfort yet light enough to be fun in all conditions and above all incredibly reliable. Absolutely bullet proof, easy to maintain, good looking and forgiving which last is important because more than once it saved me from myself by giving ample warning when it was being pushed too hard.
In fact all those bikes had that life saving character which I think is essential as we all make mistakes of judgement occasionally and road feel is vital to saving the plot before its too late. I am fond of combos (bikes with sidecars) for their ability to carry all sorts of extras as well as passengers, especially children and nervous elderly persons.
If theres one must have bike left to own its the new Enfield 650 Interceptor which thanks to my age (77) and buggered knees I would have to fit a sidecar to. Somehow I think its unlikely to happen but its top of my bucket list.

I've never ridden a sportster. I did own a dyna that I got cheap and sold for profit. I did like it more than I expected and kept it for a few years but it wasn't for me. I liked the engine but it was uncomfortable. I like trail bike/ naked bike riding position. Sports bike are uncomfortable too but it's for a reason. The harley riding position it just because people that usually aren't really motorcycle riders think it looks cool. Also 29 degrees of rake is stupid on a road bike. Even though they are heavy and primitive, they could handle a lot better with some better geometry. And I wanted more hp for such a big engine. The torque was great. I loved launching it from the traffic lights with the back wheel spinning. But then there was always the letdown of no top end.

@barebonesmc I raised the back of mine, with some longer shocks, and lowered the front by sliding the forks up in the triple trees. To take some rake out of it. Another outstanding video, thanks. I'm partial to the late model HD Shovel Head bikes. I had a 1980 FXE, whi purchased in '82. It had the narrow tank with the clocks above the forks like a Sportster. It had about 3000 miles on it and cost me $3200. There were a few issues, the Kehin carburetor had a tendency to stall the motor at low speed, and for some reason when making a left hand turn. I replaced it with an SU from an old Austin Healey using an adapter I made in the machine shop I was working in. On first startup, it over revved and blew a hole in the back of the electronic ignition module. No sweat, I replaced it with a point set and was good to go. It never leaked a drop of oil, and took me everywhere I wanted to go. I truly loved that bike. Some idiot pulled out of a side street right in front of me and I had nowhere to go. T-boned the s.o.b. I wasn't hurt, but that black and chrome beauty was totalled.

More than 3 ! I have 2 and know of others , 12 all-up I believe . And Yes.. it's one of my favorite bikes . I have opened-up the-exhaust and air-box, put bearings on the-cams and a host of other little-things that all made it run better , putting-out over 70hp now . Virago-1100 inner-valve-springs are next along with a different mild-port-job Dave nz

The yamaha fj1100/1200. The 86 fj1200 was my first motorcycle. I put 14,000 miles on it. In 2 1/2 months. Then totaled it out. When a cb1100 crashed in front of me around 135mph. Then owned many other bikes. Came back to the fj1200 when my buddy offered me his 86 fj1200 with 10,000 miles on it. That was in storage for many years. Now out of the 13 bikes that I own. 7 are fjs. They were the only engine allowed in the legend race cars. So until a couple of years ago you could get a brand new crate motor from yamaha. RPM. manufacturers fj specific parts. And also stocks most parts for the old fjs. My latest projects are a turbo fj1200. And resurrecting an 85 vmax with 4,100 miles on it that's been in storage for 24years.

I'd like to bring Moto Morini to your attention. Technically amazing motor! Sadly, the 500 S suffers from a weak gearbox. But the story is worth a closer look. As well as the spanish Sanglas. Never owned one of both brands. But they just came to my mind.
A hint about MZ: a guy in Poland combined 2 250 2-stroke Motors to build a 500ccm twin. The same manner, in which the 500ccm Ossa Yankee was built (It was the wish of the US importer. Thus the name).
These brands and bikes are surely worth some research. Maybe some readers here can already provide more information.
Greetings from the far north of Germany!
