  • First time at Martinez Lake. Had it on my bucket list for Arizona Lakes to fish. Javi's tournament fishing partner, Jose, invited us to go for a weekend of fishing. Three Generations, Father, Son and Grandson fishing on one boat. Memories...Damon, my grandson had the biggest fish on our boat for the weekend.
Water wasn't as clear as we had heard from all the California boats speeding up and down on the Colorado River. COVID19 took its toll on the area. When we moved from our spot to the river for a location upstream we got pushed up onto sand bars by the crazy reckless boaters that were out there. Not an experience I care to encounter again. We finally made it back to the ramp, where it was unbelievably crowded. Weekend before a jet skier was killed cutting in front of a boat. We plan on going back, after California opens their waterways and the river can return to normal. Jose said his past experience has been that if you see 15 boats on the lake and river that's a lot. There were hundreds Saturday. Mitby Lake, recommended by a local Tackle Shop was fun, just locals and we fit right in, and no sand bars. Just needed to find the secret holes. I managed to catch the only fish for our boat Sunday. Leaving room for improvement next time.
