Hello!! Thank you for this informative video! I would request you to make a video on the current changes in BACB which will help the people who are taking the exam before or after January 2022. I think this would help a lot of us. Thank you so much for making our lives easier :)
Hi, I am currently a Special Ed teacher and will be going back to school this Fall to get my masters in Special Ed, which will only take me one university year. However, I want to become a BCBA. Is it possible to work my special Ed teacher job, going to school for masters in sped, and becoming a Bcba the following year? If there is a way, how would I do that? Thank you!
I have a BS in psychology, I am just now working on the RBT cert, I am working my way back into this career after being an entrepreneur for the last 6 years. A lot has changed, how am I able to go straight into getting supervised? Is this possible to do without RBT? If so how do I get a supervisor to shadow and sign off for me? Or can RBT be qualified as getting those unrestricted/restricted hours?
I'm looking for info that compares the job description of a BCBA vs a BCaBA. I'm not clear on what a BCaBA actually does or what they can do and cannot do... Also, in my area (NH) when I job search, nothing comes up for BCaBA's just BCBA's which means I also can't quickly determine pay rate differences (or if they just aren't even a thing?). Currently, there's an ABA company in my area paying $18-25/hr for RBT's and $80-100/hr for BCBA's. Can I safely assume a BCaBA falls somewhere in the middle?? Of course, I know everything depends but can you give any insights here?
I have a BA in education and a MA in reading instruction. I went back to school to get my SPED certificate as well. I currently work with BCBAs to help with education at day treatment and while I have not obtained the RBT certification and I'm not a practicing RBT I do think I would be able to get "supervision" hours just by continuing to work in my current location. Do you HAVE to be an RBT to get those supervision hours? Can you be an educational expert while you get supervision hours?
I'd like to know if you're as employable as a BCaBA. also the pay compared to a BCBA. In addition, if I were to become a BAaBA first would I be wasting my money invested in education OR is it just better to go for BCBA if that is the long term objective? Thank you!
Yes you are employable as a BCaBA, many companies depend on BCaBA's to assist BCBA's when high case loads are present. It really allows for quality services to be carried out as the caseload can be shared with a BCaBA. If your end goal is to become a BCBA then it all depends on your timeline. Some people are not in a rush to go to grad school but want to begin gaining real clinical experience and the BCaBA certification allows for that. Other times it can be a financial decision, perhaps you need more time to save up money etc. the BCaBA cert. allows you to make more money than an RBT which can help you reach your financial goal easier or pay tuition in the meantime. By no means do I think it would be a waste, it just all depends on YOU how you would like to set up your timeline and goals.
Hi ! no you do not you just need to have a bachelors degree, the coursework they require(which I believe are 6 specific classes you can check on the BACB website for details), the supervisions hours, and pass your BCaBA board exam ! I hope this helps :)
Hi friends, if I wanted to transition from BCaBA to BCBA, do you know if the 1,000 hours I've already completed will count toward the 2,000 required for BCBA hours? Or will I have to complete an additional 2,000 hours before becoming a BCBA?
Thanks for your great video. It was so informative. Please make an another video or I don't know if you have already one or not on job opportunities as a BCaBA or BCBA in Canada and how much a fresh graduate earn into this field? I enrolled in Fanshawe College ,London, Ontario in Autism and Behavioural Science .It's a graduate certificate course with 2 semester. I also have co-op in both semester. I am not sure whether I will be called BCaBA after graduation or not . There is no video or very very less videos in this field. So, please focus on job and earning opportunities in this field in Canada. TIA.
Hello! I'm an RBT and planning to be a BCaBa (I already have my bachelors degree), do you have any school recommendation to get the course? I'm in Florida
So is this "coursework" separate from the degree? Are the classes I take while getting the degree the coursework or it is hundreds of hours on TOP of the degree?
Thousands of hours on top of the degree, sorta similar to licensing requirements for Social Work. As of 5th edition task list you need 1500/2000 hours (dependent on how it is counted).
If I have a masters degree in social work is there a additional certification that I can take without going back to school for two years to become a BCaba ? I have a Bachelors degree in early childhood administration
Hello! You will have to take the additional graduate courses that are required by the BACB to take the BCaBA exam. I completed my BCaBA courses in about 10 months from FIT.
@@allaboutaba1875 Does that apply to someone with a masters degree in special education? Do I still have to take additional graduate course work to become a BCBA?
Hi, I am considering applying to a Masters program to become a BCBA. Can we complete the supervision hours while completing the coursework or after the coursework is completed?
You can complete your supervision hours either during your coursework or after you have completed it. The only time you cannot accrue hours is before you have started your ABA coursework :)
Hi! So glad I found your video. I am currently a nurse and looking to transition to BCaBA. I already have my BA so what I get from the information given is I can take the coursework that applies to BCaBA. My question is, if I get Board Certified does that work like nursing where if I move or plan to work in another state I have to get a license for that state? Thank you for your time.
Hi Kemba! That is awesome!! Yes, your BCaBA will transfer across states. However, some states require you to get an additional license on top of that. Good luck!!☺️
@@allaboutaba1875 one other question? 😬. If I become and work as an RBT, would that also qualify me to receive supervised experience while working as an RBT or is that separate from working as an RBT. Essentially meaning is receiving supervised experience considered an internship?
@@kembafrancis5905 yes working as an RBT will count towards your supervised fieldwork experience! From my experience, getting those hours is typically not considered an internship. It is usually paid and you either work as a behavior therapist or RBT
Hi! Thanks for the informative video 😊 I am starting an ABA master's program in January. 8 out of the 10 courses are BACB approved. Does these count towards the coursework requirement for a BCBA? Also, what type of supervision is generally recommended? Independent, paractium or intensive? Many thanks in advance!! 😊
Awesome congratulations!! make sure to look at the verified course sequence on the BACB's website to ensure your courses count for the BCBA requirement. In most cases your masters program has already ensured this but it doesnt hurt to be sure. Personally, I did a practicum and that was primarily bc of the program I was in. However, the real question is who is your supervisor and are they taking the time to train you? doing independent, practicum or intensive just changes how quickly you get your hours and how much SV you need. The real factor is having an amazing supervisor who is willing to put in the work in getting you ready to be a BCBA.
i have a degree in psychology but i want to pursue a masters degree in ABA and eventually becoming an BCBA. however how do i get into BCaba first? how do i get into the course work first?
I went to the Florida Institute of Technology (FIT) online to complete the coursework for my BCaBA! You can also get your BCaBA while you are in your Master's program for your BCBA, you just have to complete the required coursework and the experience hours to take the exam!
Can you clarify the 8 and 4 contacts ? I always thought that meant you need to have many supervisors at the same time is that correct ? Or is that how many times they have to supervise you on the floor working with kids... you need to have per month
The "contacts" refer to when you have either face-to-face or remote (call/video/email/etc.) interactions with at least one supervisor. Therefore, you do not need more than 1 supervisor, but you need to have at least the minimum amount of contacts with them per supervision period.
If i start immidiatley after completing my coursework and obtaining my degree how soon after supervision can i finally take the exam and call myself a bcba? Sounds like supervision hours might take like years ?! 😅
The quickest way to complete your experience hours is to start as soon as your coursework starts! This way you will be able to complete them either before or soon after you complete your coursework.
The supervision hours take a while could be 1.5 years of you just accruing hours. It is possible to do after you finish but it is not recommended. As you learn in your courses it can be useful to just apply it as you accrue hours.
