You good are AMAZING!!! I’m doing my assessments for my RBT exam and I do all this but seeing you guys role play makes it all SO MUCH easier!! Thank you!!!❤
When you said your reinforcer was going to be an edible, I was like oooo these girls are getting down today! But then I was like oooohhh.... As in food... 😂
You two are so freaking cute! I'm so glad I found you tonight! I was so nervous about having my first client tomorrow and now after watching a few of your videos, I'm not so nervous anymore.
Thanks for this. Cramming for my RBT competency renewal. This is my third year, hoped I'd have this down by now but I blew the question on Shaping yesterday. Think I'm good now. Subscribing.
This was a great video on shaping. I like how it was straight to the point. I am a BT going to get my RBT very soon after my competency exam. I love ABA so far. It's a good field to start off and gain more experience to where I would like to be which is becoming a BCBA. Any grad school suggestions in mind? Thank you for your video and be blessed.
Hi there! We're so glad you enjoyed it, thank you for watching! ABA is awesome, we're glad you think so too! There are a lot of schools with great programs. Some recommendations are: FIT, USF, Ball State, and Capella. Also, we recommend that you really research all different schools to find the best fit for you :)
Hello, I am currently in online graduate school through the University of Missouri-Saint Louis. The program is very accommodating to students in and out of state. I highly recommend the program, it offers only evening classes 2-3 per semester for six semesters spring, summer and fall. Also, It is not bad considering pricing. Hope this helps!
it does look like a bribe but in aba its called the premack principle, she's telling the client "First... Then..." which differentiates it from a bribe, she's building the contingency. a bribe would be "stop doing what you're doing and I'll give you a cookie." hope that helps!
I really enjoy your videos! When teaching shaping in typical situation where progress is slow, how do you go about shaping overtime between sessions, especially if the student is not being taught the same shaping skills outside of ABA? Or if they are practicing outside of ABA, do you begin where you left off at the prior session, and then if it's correct move forward?
That is a great question! Based on our experience, we typically set a mastery criteria for the mastery of each successive approximation that is leading up to the terminal behavior. For example, if our goal is to teach our client to cut his finger nails with nail clippers, and the first step is them tolerating the nail clippers sitting in front of them, then we would set a mastery criteria and they would have to meet that mastery criteria before they move on to the next step. An example of a mastery criteria could be "tolerates nail clippers sitting in from of them for at least 90% of opportunities across 3 sessions." Therefore, we wouldn't move on to the next step until that criteria for that successive approximation has been met.
We can use shaping to shape up more appropriate communicative responses (e.g. raising hand instead of calling out, modeling using nice words with friends, etc.). You can also use shaping to teach academic skills, such as when teaching kids to write, you can reinforce "messier" writing and work your way up to only reinforcing "passing" writing work. Hope that helps!
You gals are helping me so much in shaping as an RBT. I am a visual person so this is helping me tremendously

Is tolerating novel foods shaping within a topography or across a topography?
Very good! Now I finally understand. Thank You! 👏👏👏👏👏

You guys are brilliant. Thanks for breaking it down.
I have a question, doesnt that reinforcer look like a bribe?
Thanks for your support.

Is it ok to ask your therapist to say “can you do this?” Instead of just “do this”
In aba training, the behavior therapist gives a command not a request. Using the phrase “can you” is asking the child if they can.
@@BrittnyShortcake do they understand that kids aren't dogs though?
@@BrittnyShortcake Yes, because autistic kids aren't people are don't have the right of autonomy.
