I'm actually thinking of trying out a RUclips live stream to answer a bunch of questions in the near future. Will try to get to this question if there is enough time!
Thank you for posting this! I'm on the verge of getting trained to be a ABA therapist and am super excited for the opportunity but also a tad bit nervous. This was very helpful.
Yeah it's always a bit nerve wracking at first but you'll do great! The great thing is you always start with pairing and data collection without placing demands so it is easier to ease in for both you and the client. If you haven't done so, I recommend watching my "first sessions of therapy" video so you know what to expect. Good luck and keep us all posted on how it goes!
The online exam is done at Pearson Vue Education Center. I am currently a nurse, switching over to ABA. I have my bachelor of psychology and is working on my Master of Psychology specializing in ABA and I think it is definitely worth it. It is challenging because of all the different steps I have to take and the amount of information I have to learn to get to my final goal, BCBA. Its an rewarding field, the job market is great, you have open up your own center, work in a center, work in the home, or travel. it has a lot of opportunities available. I would recommend it.
@@RICARDOMONTES12 not sure if you are still looking for this information, but not necessarily. It depends on the school. The school I am going to is just looking for a bachelor's of any kind and a grade point average of over 2.9, but their ABA is considered a Masters of Special Education. Some colleges have it under psych, so you would need to figure out what the university is requiring for masters enrollment.
Hi Marlene, are you an RBT? If so was the test difficult? How did you prepare for it? I am interested in that certification. I would like to get the ball rolling.
Ommani Whitt Hi! No I'm not an RBT, I am a behavioral therapist. So I already have my 40 hours of training. I am also interested in the certification but I want to get experience in the field first.

Hello, thanks for ur information! The first time to know ABA treatment was I got to know “Autism Partnership” in HK and I have an autistic brother at home. This year he turns 11yrs. He is not very severe. But I like the way of doing things for him and let him understand the world better, encourage him to talk to people

I'm going to be receiving my BA in Psychology in a couple of months and I know I'd like to continue on to graduate school, and I've taken interest in getting a BCBA. I'm thinking about going for a Masters in Behavioral Psychology, would I be able to take the exam and meet the requirements for BCBA after I get my masters degree in a two year program, or will I need to continue with additional courses since I didn't take ABA related courses for my BA?
If you go on BACB website, they tell you specifically which courses you need to take in order to sit for the exam. I would imagine there would be a lot of overlap but you have to look on the website or call them directly and ask. But yeah as long as you fulfill the requirements during your Master's, it does not matter that you did not take the related classes during your undergrad.
so everything I am reading is indicating that it is illegal or at best, very sketchy for an RBT to function as an independent contractor as defined and stipulated by the IRS. maybe I misunderstood which certification you said could work as an independent contractor or in other words running their own business.

No, I would recommend getting hours during undergrad. Two reasons. 1) You will have experience in the field and know earlier if it is the right career choice for you. 2) Once you complete your bachelors, you will have your hours accumulated and will be able to sit for the BCaBA exam immediately instead of graduating and using the next 1-2yrs accumulating hours before being able to sit for the exam. Hope this helps!

However, I am wondering if it'll lessen my chances of a better job if I get a masters in Education versus ABA. Additionally, my next question is are those 1,500 paid or unpaid hours? Thanks so much for your help! I appreciate any feedback.
According to the BACB, "Acceptable fields of study are behavior analysis, education, or psychology." So you should be good to go! It will not lessen your chances once you have board certification. And those hours are paid. The only ones that may not be paid are the ones with direct supervision but that depends on your agency. Hope this helps!
