Hard days build tough folks… small comfort, I know, but sometimes it’s really just a matter of perspective. Other days your best friend (my dog for instance) dies… I hope yours is isn’t something that can’t be overcome with optimism and grace easily. God bless
This is one of the first songs I learned to pick on my guitar. I was actually looking for the Fretless Friday performance, but happened across this. I'm not starting out on banjo. Those days are gone. I'm still happy to hear you play it. 😇💕
This tempo is so calming, it nearly makes it a different tune. The closeups are awesome and sure will aid many a banjo student. I play irish pipes, though, but that kinda stuff is always so helpful 😊
Economic issues and the looming threats of war are such a heavy burden to bear. I’m with you! Let’s hope that perhaps some kind of positive change is on the horizon soon or maybe already begun, but as yet unperceived.
There are two songs that I have really wanted to learn to play properly on the banjo. One is Baltimore fire, the other is Whitehouse Blues. what I have been searching for is a video like you have made here, where there is a clear, slow playthrough that you can watch and play along to for these songs. It would be amazing if you could do one of these songs! Keep up the great work - you are becoming a teacher too!
Very much needed today. I spent most of yesterday playing fiddle and going to session as I was depressed and avoided the internet. So this was the first thing to greet me when I opened the browser. Thank You!
Thank you for this. Exactly the gentle normalcy I needed. First clawhammer I learned on ukulele, then eventually on banjo. THIS is so soothing. Thank you for all you do - this just happened to hit just right right now. Thanks again!
Phoebe, you never fail to impress me sweetheart! You and your banjos are beautiful, and your playing is superb! Wishing you the best ever! Love you sweetheart, you are the bestest! 🌹❤️🥰♾️🪕🌴💥🇺🇸
Phoebe: A compliment if I may: There are only a few people on the internet who can take my mind off of the mundane and make me remember how much I love the God given gift of music: 1.) Sierra Hull and her husband Justin Moses, 2.) Stuart Duncan or Vassar Clements... and 3.) you! I'd say you are in excellent company!
Thank you Phoebe. The close-up camera angles (for the camera person...is it dad?) are especially helpful when showing the fingering for your students (like me) to learn. I especially prefer the camera to show the whole picture with both hands, including the chickens, so we can really follow along and learn.
Thanx Phoebe. Even though it's a demonstration, it still has soul. So the right hand rings the chords and the left hand , in some slightly mysterious way, picks out the melody. I still dont entirely get it as im not a strings player, i blow things. Thanx that was a good idea, i bet people like it. Well done take care Martin London UK
Hola Phoebe. Ayer despedimos a mi mamá en el cementerio y la melodía de esta canción me remite a imágenes de ese momento para mi. Me calma, me trae paz y consuelo. Gracias porque mi tristeza se trasforma en fe, y esperanza. 🎶🪕✨️
Ahh! Once again you draw me out from lurking with my favorite song. You're getting me dangerously close to driving an unreasonable distance to pick up a banjo (middle of nowhere Kansas!)
Very nice! The camera views were particularly good at showing how to pick with the back of the finger on the downstroke. Usually people can't see how that happens. A drop thumb video like this would be useful, indeed. Great job!
I think lessons series 1-threw 582.. should stand so people can learn banjo.my mom and dad got me one but not able to play it,tune it nothing.your very gifted.i think watching from the back was great 💡 idea.
Thanks for the camera angles! Do you learn from tab? From memory I taught myself "Good night ladies" which is really close to this, but I see the timing differences.
thanks for posting this phoebe! i’ve been wondering how exactly clawhammer is played… i’m hoping to start lessons sometime soon, if i can find a teacher (: !!
Let's say you're me. Experience with bass guitar, less but some on guitar, and want a banjo. Budget of $500, $600 if it's worth that bump. What kind of banjo would you recommend? Love your videos! Keep em comin!
I'm having some hard days right now, thanks for being here Phoebe

Awesomeness... "Slow is smooth and smooth is fast,"
Beautiful banjo!

Wow that was beautiful and helpful, as we all know you really know what you are doing on a banjo. Loved it. Frail on!
Looks complicated, but then any new skill requires lots of training and practice to master. (My golf swing comes to mind)🥴 Thank you Phoebe🙏🏼
