@@557deadpool I feel like they serve different purposes, though? Like, when I was a kid playing with a lightsaber, I was more into the ability to actually USE it like a lightsaber. To retract the blade into the hilt, and duel like a prequel motherfucker. The stuff like Electrum saber are just for the adults who wanna look cool. Man those were the days. I had a handful of the the basic extendable ones. I would take them EVERYWHERE. School, the beach, the mall, everywhere. I would wear them on my belt and felt like a lil 5 year old jedi. I always favored those over the electronic ones.
The first lightsaber i ever bought myself was a red qui-gon 2002 lightsaber, still have it to this day. Blade is pretty beat up with a few cracks but they were insanely durable.

Man, I LOVED the electronic lightsabers that came out in 2002 and 2003. I didn't care they didn't retract all the way into the hilt. I enjoyed the variety of designs they released. I bought the Luke and the mace winds spring loaded sabers. I still cherish them despite the design flaws you mentioned, since they still feel like the compromise between an accurate replica and accurate features. I went to Celebration 2 in 2002 where they were marketing the very first master replicas force fx Saber, which was Anakin's episode 2 Saber. Seeing the demo blew my mind as I never thought a replica could be combined with an electronic toy in that way. I bought most of the sabers Master replicas made, which means I didn't have money to buy the ones by hasbro. It wasn't until recently that I bought "rey's" lightsaber at Disneyland (before there was an entire land devoted to star wars) just to have one where the blade could be removed. Seeing the technology evolve, I'm happy I built my own lightsaber at Disneyland, and even purchased the "reforged" lightsaber replica there as well. So, seeing the technology evolve again, and seeing an accurate hilt that has an accurate blade shooting out of it is definitely something I'm hyped for! May the 4th be with you, Stephen!
It’s crazy to see how primitive the saber replicas used to be back then... meanwhile nowadays I’m rocking a neopixel blade in a screen-accurate lightsaber! Love watching this 💜
I became increasingly aware of how much I’ve aged since owning my first saber. Totally didn’t realize the spring loaded ones were from 2005 lol. Totally agree with everything said in this video, but if I had to pick a favorite saber from my collection, I’d have to go with my spring loaded Mace Windu. Even with the bulky hilt, it still manages to look sleek with its gold detailing, and the purple blade is just fantastic.
Have you ever seen the Star Wars Rebels retractable lightsabers? Those were a combination of the prequel and sequel era retractable lightsabers, decent length and sturdiness, thin and sleek hilts.
100% agree with the 2002 ones. My brother and I had so many combos of hilts and blades. Cheap yet durable. Proves sometimes the simpler option is the better :)
I think my favorite Lightsabers, as of right now, are the Hasbro Force FX Elite Series Lightsaber replicas. The amount of features they offer, plus the guarantee that all Elite FX Lightsabers will have removable blades, extra features that even some custom sabers don’t offer, and the high quality and detailed, authentic metal hilts, makes them my go to recommendation for anyone who wants to get into Saber collecting. I have all 3 currently available Elite FX blades; Kylo Ren, Darth Revan, and Darth Sideous, with Ahsoka Tano’s and the Mandalorian Darksaber on preorder.
this is such a blast from the past and I never realized how cool my mom was. I had literally every single one of these except for the mace windu force fx. My brother and I still have most of them too.
Lightsaber toys are such a cool part of Star Wars history that it's really a shame how much some of them fall short. Still, they're a fond memory for countless Star Wars fans. 2005's Obi-Wan Kenobi lightsaber was the first one I owned and still have today. It's nothing great but blade fully retracting and being spring loaded was such a cool feature. I don't care how much it's "flawed"... it's my favorite! I too would love to own a fully official disney lightsaber like the ones they're using at the starcruiser so fingers crossed for someday in the future!
One of my biggest regrets is breaking the RotJ Luke Skywalker saber I got for Christmas in the ‘90’s. I have managed to hold on to the blue bladed Qui-gon saber I got a few years later.
God this was a nostalgia trip and a half. Never owned any ForceFX or Disney sabers but I had the good old 2002 extendable sabers, the light up partially retractable and the spring loaded one. NOSTALGIAAAAA
I absolutely adored the 2002 toys. I remember vividly playing with them with all my neighborhood friends. The fact that I could have Qui Gon's hilt (My personal favorite at the time) with a red blade just completely sold it for me. The kids and I would smack each other around for hours. Although I must say the 2012 basic saber re-releases were pretty solid too. I recall you doing a review of a couple of those back in the day as well. Any particular reason why that review is absent from this one?
I remember I got a 2012 darth maul saber because my little brother was just born (I was 6 at the time) and I was going through a huge clone wars/prequel phase and for some reason my mum and dad decided that I deserved a trip to toys r us and I can remember my eyes settling on that maul saber and getting so excited because before this I only had a 2002 luke skywalker hilt with a green blade which i still have and I thought I was the shit when I went to fight with my mates with my new maul saber
I had some cheap ones from my childhood that fell apart very easily but they defined my childhood. I still remember going to a friends house one day and picking up the blue side of Grievous’ spinning lightsaber and it blew my mind. It started my lightsaber collecting, which started with a Darth Vader retractable lightsaber that had the ability to light up using two double A batteries. I later got a light up Darth Vader lightsaber with sound effects around the same time while my brother got the exact same versions of my two lightsabers but as Anakin/Luke’s lightsaber. Definitely my favorite thing in all of Star Wars
Ah, I remember the 2002 lightsabres. I had the electronic versions of Anakin and Obi Wan's lightsabres. A friend of mine had the basic Obi Wan's and the red Qui Gon's. We were always having duels. Ah, wonderful times!
I think what made the 2002 lightsabers so fun was the fact that there were so many different variations of blades and handles you could get. You weren’t just limited to a lightsaber from the movies. Before the lightsaber builder toys or Savi’s workshop, this was the closest thing to having a “custom” lightsaber back then.
I felt such a strong connection seeing those 2002 sabers again. I adored those things. I have some of the fairly recent ones, my favourite being the Obi-Wan variant as I love how slim and sleek the hilt is, but the blade has a lot to be desired. I will make it my goal to get a force fx or saberforge one soon
Great video! I was child of the 70's so we saw Star Wars for the first time in movie theaters . The first bootleg lightsaber toys to come our 78 were called Force Beams. Basic red flashlights with a long solid tube for the blade. Colored discs were in between. Recently I got into collecting RGB lightsabers and then finding toys in thrift shop to refurbish. I enjoy finding an old toy lightsaber and then searching internet for details about them. I learned a lot from your video. Some of these I found .
I'm grateful I was born in 2004 when these old designs were still being made. I was able to catch one of the old Hasbro Qui-Gon FX lightsabers and I had a blast with it. Duel worthy? Hell no. Fun to duel with when I was 11? Hell *yes.*
Definitely agree with you about the 2002 ones. My and my brother used to love playing with those back in the day, and they're still in the loft somewhere. I had the electronic Anakin one from AotC, and I definitely agree with how annoying it was not being able to fully retract them. Even as a, like, six year old with it, I remember that annoying me.
This brightened my entire day a great collection mate I used to have lot of these myself my favorite being Qui Gonn Jinn's from Episode 1 great to see you looking fantastic
For us, the release of the OT in theatres was key. We got new merch, new VHSs and DVDs, etc. It also included some of the first lightsaber replicas (25-30 bucks). There were only 2: Luke and Darth Vader and only ROTJ versions. I was in 4th grade- 1996.
American here! immediately after my father took me and my lil bro to see phantom menace (i was about ten, he was 7 at the time), he drove us to toys r us and bought me that same darth maul saber, and my brother an obi wan saber and took us to the local park to play with them. he always played with us too haha. i'm 32 now, and my brother is 29. idk, just a fun little story i thought id share.
To this day I still have my 2002 Toys R Us lightsabers, I have a best friend who lived next door and he loved Star Wars just as much I did. My parents bought me 3 or 4, and he’d always come over and use a different one and we’d run around the house for hours. But absolutely NOTHING compares to my first time seeing the brand new Master Replicas Luke, Yoda and Maul Force FX sabers in my local (but now long gone) Sharper Image store. My dad and I were so psyched he bought me Lukes the day of. Still have it to this day.
I just got a galaxy’s edge lightsaber that I built, and decided to look up lightsabers. I found this video and I have to say that it is very well made. It is very informative and gives a cool look at how the sabers have evolved!
Those were the greatest toys ever! Well constructed so you could play and have real fights and bump there against each other, nowadays toys will break just by looking at them. My old 2002 toy lightsaber is still looking good and being able to take some hits while fighting!
My favourite lightsabers were the basic ones released around 2013-14 as I thought they were nicely proportioned, retracted fully and also had a really great Blade length.
My favorite lightsaber toy is still the broom sticks that I would "recicle" (find in the trash) when I was a kid and pretend it was Ben Kenobi's lightsaber. My brother and I had a blast with our friends from the neighborhood... Good times...
I remember there was a line of lightsaber toys that came out just before the blade builders line. They were basically the same thing as blade builders, but I think they had slightly slimmer hilts, and longer blades. I had one that looked like Darth Vaders lightsaber. I still remember that as the best lightsaber toy that I ever owned (in my subjective opinion).
I too had a plethora of the cheap clip-on solid-blade sabers from the early naughties. Still got them too. The Qui-Gon one was my first and my favorite of them so it made sense that my first High-End Combat saber would also be Qui-Gon's from Ultrasabers, and I've always loved the green blades over the blue blades ever since I saw Return of the Jedi. However my number 1 would have to be the Ultimate Lightsaber for Episode III and Clone Wars. The electronic ones you build yourself. Now I'm currently modifying my custom made saber from various sources on Etsy. Even got a 3-D printed control box to go over the original button and a camera clip for the d-ring. Next I'm gonna wrap her in leather so that my hand doesn't get so tired from twirling it around.

The tape measure bit yep brings back memories
Wild that this man murdered a pregnant woman just a year later.
Wait actually
@@LSWF2sadly he did
I HAD THE EXACT SAME OBI WAN SPRING LOADED LOHJTSABER AS YOURS!!! I loved this so much
It feels weird watching this guy after everything's he's been accused of
What was he accused of?

I just loved the fact that you could actually hang them on your belt. I had a ton of the 2002 sabers.
This is gonna be a good one boys ha haaa
Great video! I was child of the 70's so we saw Star Wars for the first time in movie theaters . The first bootleg lightsaber toys to come our 78 were called Force Beams. Basic red flashlights with a long solid tube for the blade. Colored discs were in between. Recently I got into collecting RGB lightsabers and then finding toys in thrift shop to refurbish. I enjoy finding an old toy lightsaber and then searching internet for details about them. I learned a lot from your video. Some of these I found .
6:19 i loved this, were can they be bougth?
This brings me back ... I remember in 2002 we had full battles in the garden with those things
Wow I remember havin Luke's green lightsaber and Obi-Wan's Purple lightsaber..
I'm grateful I was born in 2004 when these old designs were still being made.
I was able to catch one of the old Hasbro Qui-Gon FX lightsabers and I had a blast with it.
Duel worthy? Hell no.
Fun to duel with when I was 11? Hell *yes.*
I still have that same darthmaul lightsaber, Qui-Qon too.
Exactly! Why make it retract if it's not going to go fully into the hilt?!
killer
Those 2002 lightsabers. We used to fight each other till we gave up from too much pain haha.
The people who don’t know what he did
This brightened my entire day a great collection mate I used to have lot of these myself my favorite being Qui Gonn Jinn's from Episode 1 great to see you looking fantastic
i watched this video years back ago, im so sad he ruined his life that way, he didnt only ruin his life, but he ruined 2 lives, his own child.
Man, I still have my 2002 Red Qui-Gon and Green Obi-Wan sabers. Great video.
It is anakin skywalker
😂😂 seeing a murder is different feeling 😂
To this day I still have my 2002 Toys R Us lightsabers, I have a best friend who lived next door and he loved Star Wars just as much I did. My parents bought me 3 or 4, and he’d always come over and use a different one and we’d run around the house for hours.
But absolutely NOTHING compares to my first time seeing the brand new Master Replicas Luke, Yoda and Maul Force FX sabers in my local (but now long gone) Sharper Image store. My dad and I were so psyched he bought me Lukes the day of.
Still have it to this day.
I remember watching this video a good while back, shook me to my core to find out you're a murderer. Rot.
He is?
@@beeftacoman69 yup! Ended the life of his pregnant partner a week before Christmas last year. Look up Stephen McCullagh for more info
I just got a galaxy’s edge lightsaber that I built, and decided to look up lightsabers. I found this video and I have to say that it is very well made. It is very informative and gives a cool look at how the sabers have evolved!
Whyd you do it man
I’m so glad I had an older brother to get the 2002 lightsabers and then steal them from him when I was grown up enough too.
Common I loved this video now It’s just not the same why would you kill your pregnant girl friend
Same bro, I only found out about the fact that he murdered his girlfriend today
@@khaisproductions I only found 15 days ago
11:26 so true !!! I'm glad to see I wasn't alone to do this.
He’s a killer
Hey you gon make toys in prison
Dude the 2012 Saber is what I have the glow up
This was such a goated vid until he killed his pregnant girlfriend what a bum
He hasn't been found guilty yet (at least from what I've seen) so you can't say he did it.
@@mrmentality8456if he didn't kill her, he's the most guilty looking innocent man there ever was is all I'll say.
So true bro
It's so fricking awesome how 1999 lightsabers look so cool
I almost cried when you brought up those 2002 toys I really thought I was only one who remembered them
Those were the greatest toys ever!
This guy is so underrated
Lol
He murdered his wife
Yeah i just found out, I never knew until few months ago.
I watch this video 2 times a day
I too had a plethora of the cheap clip-on solid-blade sabers from the early naughties.
