The resting place of hundreds of old railroad locomotives is Larry's Truck and Electric (reporting mark LTEX) in Lordstown, Ohio. This yard sits right off the CSX mainline and contains old engines from numerous rail lines, including CSX, Norfolk Southern, Kansas City Southern, BNSF, Union Pacific, Canadian Pacific, Canadian National, and more. Sometimes these locomotives are purchased from Larry's Truck and Electric and receive new life on a railroad, while other times only parts from the locomotives are sold. Either way, these are locomotives that have been abandoned by their original owners and are awaiting a new stage of their life.
This video was recorded in 4K on July 8, 2019, using a DJI Mavic Pro drone.
Here's a link to another drone video of the Lordstown Locomotive Graveyard. It's interesting to see what's changed since last fall! • Locomotive Graveyard i...

That's an FL-9, ex New Haven unit, dual mode diesel-electric or straight electric via third rail. Note the 2 axle front and 3 axle rear trucks. Built to run into Grand Central using the third rail power. Metro-North, Amtrak and ConnDOT inherited the units. This is a ex-Metro North unit they painted in tribute to NYC, though actually NYC never owned an FL-9. NYC changed locomotives at Croton-Harmon.

At 0:50 at the back near the auto racks, you can see a B39-8E in LMX paint, a C30-7 in BN paint, and a C39-8 in Conrail paint. These engines are former MMA, which was the road that had the runaway oil train back in 2013. The C30-7 is 5016, the sister engine to lead unit 5017. Also its not seen in this video, but engine 5023 was also moved down to LTE with the 5016. 5023 was one of the engines on that runaway.
I suspect the B39-8Es will get sold or leased since they are in okay shape and have remote control equipment. Unfortunately the C30s and C39s are in very rough shape and will probably never turn a wheel again.

I have to say, every one of these locomotives are special in there own way. For me, I love the diesel work horses that have powered and are powering down the rails of America. However, with that said, I would say that the few "SLUGS" that I've seen in this video are my favorite. I personally don't think the these engines get the recognition they deserve.

Next AR the SW1500's these too would power the MN amtrak thru to other states or provinces. Next are the powerhouses. I prefer the sp45's myself for the rescue units for MN Amtrak...they can take the whole train soley when the other units are kaput. Next would be sd90's but their dead. Wishes wishes. I loved the sd40-2's true powerhouses...meant to lead 500 car trains with dpu's. for my shortline power I like the gp30's with their high pitched whistling turbo. 35-2's same. Keep them busy.

@@LordCarpenter I think I was in second grade, the last time I saw a red bonnet SP loco in action.
SP used to be real big in my region, which is TX, NM, and, AZ. As well as SoCal.
My grandmother and her sisters, (I think they were part of a church group) brought cookies for the troops that were on the train bound for the West Coast, when they stopped in her city, I think to pick up more troops.
By the time I showed up on this rock, SP stopped using the line, and it no longer ran inter state, just inter county from the UP main line.
It was used as temporary site, for empty cars, presumably from the train that brought coal to chemical facility, near our city.
I also, remember my dad on leave, and taking me on walks along that line, which the north to south section was just 2 to 4 blocks west of the house, my great grandpa left to our family.
My dad and I, rarely saw eye to eye, so that section, hold a place in my heart. Even though the tracks were pulled about the time I was in high school (maybe after?) and some parts are now part of a main road, used largely for commercial trucks heading into Mexico.

My favourite ones were the GECX ex-UP C40-8Ws because these are the ones that are going to be leased to Norfolk Southern as of 2021. However, it won’t be short term like 2018. It will be long term lease for NS, those GECX ex-UP C40-8W locomotives. As I said in other videos, the ex-Union Pacific wide cab dash 8s (GECX) are the ones that will be leased long term to Norfolk Southern as of 2021. In addition, NS is also long term leasing some other engines from LTEX, like the PRLX ex-BNSF SD70MACs, the PRLX ex-UP SD60Ms, the CEFX ex-UP SD60s, the NREX ex-LMX B39-8Es, the GECX ex-ATSF/ex-BNSF C40-8Ws, the GECX ex-UP C44-9Ws, the CREX ES44ACs, GE's Hybrid ES44AC #2010, and the PRLX ex-UP SD9043MACs. GECX #2010 is being long term leased from Erie, PA by NS this year as well. GECX #905, the Christmas C44-9W, is being leased to the BNSF in 2021 as well too. In addition to those leasers that would like to be long term leased to Norfolk Southern in 2021, BNSF is also leasing some power from LTEX too, like the GECX ex-UP C40-8 standard cabs, and the GECX ex-CSX/ex-Conrail C40-8Ws. The GECX ex-UP standard cabs and the GECX ex-CSX/ex-Conrail C40-8Ws are being long term leased by BNSF in 2021 as well, and GE #905 too. Is this OK, RUclipsr?

In the late 50's while I was a student at the U. of Cincinnati, Lordstown was in the news. GM had located a brand new Fisher Body assembly plant, hoping to draw from the folks who lived on the W. Virginia side of the Ohio. Many personnel problems began to arise, some workers decided to only show up on certain days of the weeks, and then in protest to some of General Motors policies, said employees started sabotaging their own cars on the production line, sand in the transmissions was a favorite. Finally, in total disgust, GM closed the plant and everyone lost in the final analysis!!

I had a job offer to work as yardmaster at CSX's Lordstown yard. It would've been an easy and interesting job (yardmaster is usually very hectic and difficult). But, I couldn't find one town in that area that I wanted to live in. So, sadly I declined the job.
I wonder if the yard is still in operation, or if it's part of Larry's now. I didn't recognize any landmarks, nor did I see the yard office where I did my OJT. There was a big complex that used to be team tracks. Maybe that's part of what we see here. NS had a yard near there where they serviced nearby automobile manufacturing plants.

@Joe Madej It's one of my favorite Railroads, so I love seeing the old Guilford paint scheme. Now what is left of the roster are the new Pan Am paint or the EX-CSXs, but some of them still have some of the Guilford paint. But they rarely ever appear on trains Because they are old, and not so reliable anymore. the best chance you will ever see them is on locals
