Thank you so much for this timely video. I am starting a similar custom chassis and build and this is exactly the information and illustrations I needed. Amazing!
They can be seen in "abbondanza" down at Portbury Docks near Bristol. There they're known as "Push Me, Pull Yous", "Paul and Barry Chuckle" and "Fiat Due Care-os"!
When they're Tailored by Swift, it's easy to see how they shake them off. Sadly just like the Chuckle Brothers, they are never ever getting back together!
I spent a few nights moving Fiat and Alfa Romeo vehicles around Portbury Dock, and I have the rather odd experience of being in the back cab while someone else drove the front cab. My job was simply to take the handbrake off for the journey and apply it when we'd moved to the parking space ready for loading onto a transporter. The weird part was sitting in a driver's seat going backwards at about 20 mph, and having no control over where I was going!
2:20 what's that style of an axle is called? The one that is fixed to the chassis and only the end sections swivel up and down? I like this trick to get the floor as low as possible, however I wonder how do the behave under the torque from brakes?
Loved this guys well doing this one loved it how strange with the van chassis back to back looks weird 🤣🤣don’t understand why they do r get manufacture to fit the air suspension befure they receive it seems big expense if they just taking it off 😭😭😢
I was thinking the same. I thought for sure they would need some sort of packers or inner and outer pieces to align the top and bottom of the rails and prevent bowing. Hoping there was more structural joiners there then just the bolts!
@@johnblanchard8719 If you look at the crashtest of this style of motorhome ruclips.net/video/JuNOarORALM/видео.html you can see that strength clearly isn't a design goal.
Hi Steve, just like to ask a question. I am Stephen. We bought a motorhome kontiki 884. 22 plate from a dealer in may 24. While it's been with the same dealer in Stoke on trent. For repairs. The dealer While reversing damaged our back end .They are very sorry for the damage .I want a new back end? How long would it take before it comes from swift? Thank you, Steve & Jane
Obviously they have tested it you would hope but the way the cab chassis is connected to the rear chassis is in my view not a strong enough mating and fixing point and I used to work in a truck fabrication workshop years ago and I wouldn’t feel happy or safe driving that conversion around . I’d love to see more closely exactly how many bolts and flitch overlap is used 🤔
Difference between that & truck mfr is that those chassis aren’t carrying a lot of weight. Motorhome & caravan construction is all about weight saving so they’re actually quite light.
I don't know if things are different in UK/EU but motorhomes in north America seem to be a hodge podge of stuff thrown together. Same with camper trailers. Made as cheaply as possible with whatever crap they had on the shelf at the time. For what you would pay for a new one (I'll never buy one) I would expect at least proper wiring connections for 12v lighting instead of junk Scotch lock connectors
Hi guys would you send me the details of the mosquito repellent you used on one of your videos please I know it was a while ago thanks in advance love the videos
Here's an opportunity to take British motorhomes out of the dark age by finally offering a double floor. That's what the ALKO chassis is for.
Waoow 👍👏🏻

Those two headed Fiat Ducatos are very fucking Doug DeMuro "Doug is the Type of Guy" vehicle of the year!
I'm sure every CJDR dealer in San Diego has heard from him about it.
Wow. Amazing insight into how they are built. Thanks

Wow that’s so clever. Thanks for the tour :)
They come in the Port at Avonmouth Docks see them on a regular basis on the M5.

Torsion beam axle like on old French cars
Great video guys really interesting, keep them coming
Fair play, excellent video.
What an interesting insight into how these are made. Very hands on compared to a modern car assembly line.
What a great video. Loved it, so interesting.
This really needed far more than five minutes. Fascinating.
thankyou, questions answered...
[but that centre joint looks a bit iffy]
Lucky that they happen to be front wheel drive.
I've seen those pushmepullyou vans being delivered. I wondered what they were for!
to me to you
vans
What happens to the removed from suspension struts ?
What I want to know is can you get such a bare cab in North America?
Very well presented with Mrs R being easy on the eye! 😉
Wow! Love how things are built, bit of mechanical mechano love it ❤
Interesting isn’t it!
Fascinating to see the process and very nicely presented 👍
What a Great Video,, I mean who knew
Very interesting thank you! :-)
Interesting how you build the vehicles.
I know that manufacturers like Fiat supply the complete chassis and then the camping cabin on top^^

3:18 I'm very surprised that's a strong enough joint. Interesting.

Sorry to hear this. I have no idea how long something like that would take to fix?
Thank you. 😘 have a great weekend.
You too!!
It was very interesting always wondered how they managed that. Thankyou for showing it.
Our pleasure!
Thank you really interesting episode hopefully you do some more like it👍
So pleased you enjoyed it x
Bloody good strong chassis legs and cross members 👍👌
💪🏻
Another great and interesting video has always Steve Lindsay Eddie Harry and George 👍
Thanks Tony xx
Interesting 👍💙❤
Glad you think so!
Great video guys
Thanks so much!

There must be tens of thousands,in use. They are used in low loading trucks, and delivery vans, for appliances, furniture, etc.

We have an also chassis less than one year old, has anyone checked for corrosion ?
Very interesting. I had no idea how they were built.
I know, right?
I thought they came in with factory chassis's then bodied.
Some of the smaller ones are built on the Fiat chassis, but many are built on the much better AL-KO chassis, especially the bigger heavier ones.
The thumbnail made me think of Lemon Demon’s “Two trucks”
I could never work in a place like that, my beard isn't even close to being thick enough!
I love you guys, but after being shafted by swift on warranty I wouldn't touch'em with a barge pole...
