Little things like "if you already have [x] this will look different" or "if you have [y] version this might take longer" etc. etc. It takes extra thought and care, but puts you many steps ahead of so many other tutorials.

After doing this for so long I've realized I'd rather have 10 people saying I put in too much detail, or else I'll have 300 people telling me I'm not detailed enough.

One small tip that may help someone someday (if they even find this amongst all the comments!) is that I didn't have the "update from storage meda" option in system update, so instead I had to boot the PS3 in recovery mode and could install the CFW from there.
This is literally the best guide for installing CFW on a PS3 I've come across on RUclips, literally every step is crucial and explained wonderfully. Definitely subscribing! I'm fairly new to the world of Homebrew and Jailbreakinf my consoles but after successfully flashing my PS Vita with CFW, I thought why not my Ps3 as well right? And following your steps I have smashed it out of the park and all steps were successful. Thanks very much good Sir!

Thank you so much for this. My brother gave me an old PS3 he wasn't using anymore, and I just basically upgraded/maxed out all of the ports on my PC with SSDs. Rather than just throw a 850 Evo 500GB in the drawer never to be used again, I gave the PS3 an upgrade. So I decided to also jailbreak it with this tutorial. Works like a charm. 🖤🖤🖤
I did the same with an old Msata 500gb solid state in a 2.5 sata enclosure. Took ten mins to upgrade the hard drive. I have noticed a slight difference in loading times. Amazing console once its true potential has been uinlocked

This video is lovely and as always you really help break down the process in such a understandable and easy manner that anyone can follow. However if I could mention one thing, I think it would’ve really helped to mention some extra precaution when going ahead with installing CFW, in specific the possibilities of bans. This was one of the first videos I watched in regards of the topic and just had assumed it would be no big deal as it wasn’t mentioned, so I went ahead and followed it all and got it working. Afterwards I deleted the jailbreaking profile and hopped onto my regular account with my PSN being set to auto login not thinking much of it. It wasn’t a bit after using it that I began to look a bit into it and saw the risk of getting banned by having CFW and being on PSN which scared the shit out of me. I think mentioning it at the beginning for people who haven’t done this before would’ve helped but other than that though this is a solid video as always!
@@Korochi I’m not too familiar with the rate that bans are given or if it’s as enforced but I think it should be alright if it’s a few times. I hear of stories of people doing it for months or years and being alright. I guess it’s a luck of the draw.
Dude, that was way, waaaay too long, but way, waaaay working so hats down to thee and to the PS3Xploit team : length was needed to circumvent a lot if not all situations and your warnings were crystal clear. It worked a treat for me first shot and the world needs more of you! Cheers!
Found a thread on Reddit where someone installed a 2TB internal hdd. I am going to attempt that now. I am well aware 1TB works all day and some say 1.5TB works too. I'll be editing the sectors reducing the hdd to 1.86TB then installing it on a ps3 with firmware 4.46. Once installed then I'll upgrade to newer firmware. I'll report back after to let everyone know how it turned out. The people that did do this claim it works. If it does it woud be great if you made a video on this.
I ran into two problems during this process. Here’s how I fixed them. 1st problem: after getting the USB drive set up and ready for the cfw patch, it wouldn’t locate the update file. Fixed by double checking the folder formatting on the USB drive (“PS3” folder was in a sub folder under a folder titled “Evilnat 4.90 CFX” instead of at the root of the drive. 2nd problem: After trying to install the CFW update, met an “Error 8002F957: Data is corrupted”. Fixed by doing a full system reset (“Restore PS3 System” in system settings) and doing the flash memory patch again. Hope this helps anyone who has same problems I had

READ THIS IF YOU GET THE DATA IS CORRUPTED ERROR: At least in my case, it was the USB stick I was using. If you are getting the same error, you should try out different USB sticks you have available, and see if it works for you. I used a SanDisk UltraDrive 64GB. The first one I used that didn’t work was a no name one with a microSD slot as the storage, so really it was just a adapter for the microSD to become a USB stick. Hope it helpe somebody struggling with the same problem. By the way, this guide is great and helped me a lot, thanks!

I did this on a Japanese CECH2500A PS3 Slim I bought from ebay last year and it worked flawlessly! I used to use HEN because that was the best alternative, but now I finally have a custom firmware installed!

If you make another, you may want to mention that if the PS3 has a pending firmware update (in my case 4.87 to 4.9) then when you get to the step of installing the custom firmware, you will not get the option to download via internet vs from media file; Instead it will only apply the already pending firmware and you'll have to start all over. I saw that NAND is easier, you just change the HDD and install only the home brew, but mine is NOR. Should I get external SSD with usb cable and format it as extended storage so I can paste games there from laptop? Or should I buy 1TB internal to change my old 80GB, I saw I just need the same CFW, but what about the patch? I deleted all from the booting flash, but I can do it again. Do I need to visit ps3toolset from my ps3 with flash in to patch again before I change the internal hard drive? I'm just wondering what to get, external with usb cable or change the internal. Wireless Chip of my old ps3 slim died were I had HEN installed so now i got myself a freshly new one and to my luck it had the right serialnumber so i could finally crack it. Big shoutout to you my guy always helpful and explained well!
I just want to thank you for having such a well detailed and helpful guide. My PS3 had actually been jailbroken in the past, but trying to apply the 4.90 EVILNAT update initially had something go bizarrely wrong (corrupted data which prevented the console from properly booting), which required me re-applying the OFW to get it running again. After following your guide, I was able to get it back to CFW as good as new again! :) *And thankfully I didn't lose any of my previous installations on the hard drive.*

Luckily I found an A01 still sealed to work on. First thing i did was watch this to mod it and check its temps and play time. Always a big help!

Be wary of going to psx-place their privacy statement is doing some messed up stuff. When you click agree, it highlights the "Partners" link and when you click on that, or "More Options" the page will hang and overload your memory till the system crashes or you force-closed the tab. Confirmed in Chrome, Edge and FireFox.
One thing to note about the PS3 versions that are CFW compatible: the key thing you need to look for is date code or date of manufacture. If your date code is 0D or lower, or if your date of manufacture is December 2010 or older, then you can CFW. If your date code is 1A or higher, or if your date of manufacture is January 2011 or newer, then you can't. January to March 2011, you might want to try it just to see if it works. But stick to PS3's made 12/31/2010 or before
You can do that, although keep in mind consoles out there could be case swapped. The only sure fire way to verify is to check the MinVer of the system itself when you use it.

Absolutely brilliant. The phat ps3 that I bought had a Console Suspension. Now, no worries. Everything you need broken down in less than 45 minutes. Its also wicked fast now lol.

Or should I buy 1TB internal to change my old 80GB, I saw I just need the same CFW, but what about the patch? I deleted all from the booting flash, but I can do it again. Do I need to visit ps3toolset from my ps3 with flash in to patch again before I change the internal hard drive?
I'm just wondering what to get, external with usb cable or change the internal.

Wireless Chip of my old ps3 slim died were I had HEN installed so now i got myself a freshly new one and to my luck it had the right serialnumber so i could finally crack it. Big shoutout to you my guy always helpful and explained well!

I just want to thank you for having such a well detailed and helpful guide.
My PS3 had actually been jailbroken in the past, but trying to apply the 4.90 EVILNAT update initially had something go bizarrely wrong (corrupted data which prevented the console from properly booting), which required me re-applying the OFW to get it running again.
After following your guide, I was able to get it back to CFW as good as new again! :)
*And thankfully I didn't lose any of my previous installations on the hard drive.*

Thank you very much, I have never found such a clear tutorial explained in a simple and detailed way in every single part like yours, I have been thinking about modifying my old PS3 for years but not being a native English speaker I have always been afraid of getting stuck somewhere (the ones in Italian always suck).
Finally I can start copying all the games I have, I just have to figure out how to dump them from the discs.

Love your vids! Full of helpful information. Used this vid to mod all my ps3s. Sadly my B01 and E01 were destroyed by a so called Professional who delided them. Luckily I found an A01 still sealed to work on. First thing i did was watch this to mod it and check its temps and play time. Always a big help!

Be wary of going to psx-place their privacy statement is doing some messed up stuff. When you click agree, it highlights the "Partners" link and when you click on that, or "More Options" the page will hang and overload your memory till the system crashes or you force-closed the tab. Confirmed in Chrome, Edge and FireFox.

One thing to note about the PS3 versions that are CFW compatible: the key thing you need to look for is date code or date of manufacture. If your date code is 0D or lower, or if your date of manufacture is December 2010 or older, then you can CFW. If your date code is 1A or higher, or if your date of manufacture is January 2011 or newer, then you can't. January to March 2011, you might want to try it just to see if it works. But stick to PS3's made 12/31/2010 or before
You can do that, although keep in mind consoles out there could be case swapped. The only sure fire way to verify is to check the MinVer of the system itself when you use it.
I never heard of jailbeaking a ps3 all this time I wanted to play my gta ps2 disc and been looking fir a backwards compatible ps3 within how much I wanted to spend didn't know I could do this thanks!!!!!
