Great video. In the baking process it says 30 minutes and then says 2 baking at 15 minutes each. Can you explain more please. Do you go 15 min. Then cool down and then go 15 more minutes. Thanks for your help, love your videos.
Great job Scott. One improvement we have done to the fluid bed is not to glue the top pipe in. Makes for easier cleaning and changing of colors. Screw the bottom cap to a 10" x 10" board. Then we add caulking to the bottom of the fluid bed to the valve hole. It make the fluid bed run smoother on powder paints that are not as smooth like one color base. Such as other powders with glitter and black pepper. We use the oven at a high temp to heat several jigs at a time. If your paint larger number of jigs. Tight lines and we really enjoy your channel.
roggiedale Thanks man I appreciate it a lot! We're upping out jig game this year for sure. The next one is going to be tying multiple color with flash to help out the newbies. Great way to spend an evening in the winter with a frosty beverage for sure.

I've been powder painting for over 20 years and would like to share a couple tips. Building a fluid bed is essential if your doing lots of jigs. When I built mine the cups cost about $10 each. But they have built in diffusers and a lid. Just put a lid on them and you can have several colors ready to go. They still sell for around $10 on eBay. When I turn the unit on I like the paint to be as fluffy as I can ( Lots of air) then if your jigs are not getting enough paint on them just leave them in the cup a little longer. No more runs! Your paint simply wasn't fluffy enough. I also use a torch so my heating time is cut in half. I also use regular needle nose pliers so you don't have to mess with unlocking the vice grips every time. As far as paint in the hook eye having paint in it goes. I cut small pieces of heat shrink tubing to put over the eye before I heat them Dip the paint on and remove before before putting them in the oven. No paint on the eye at all. This does take some time to do but I don't like the paint in the eye because with smaller jigs it's hard to pass the line through them when they have paint in the eye. I hope these tips help some of your viewer's. Happy fishing!
Kansas Gardener Those are some great tips. I actually dip them now right out of the mold. Seems to speed things up overall.

I've been doing this for a while now, when I dip them they look fantastic, once they go in the oven the pink turns purple and the bright orange turns dark orange
dgriffith19 what temperature are you using? I'm doing about 325. That might have something to do with it. Also are you using ProTec powder paint? As you can see in the video my colors typically get BETTER after baking. It must be something with the process unless its a different paint.

That was a 1st class video. I've seen quite a few videos & have painted quite a few jigs & I still learned quite a bit. You're a good teacher. Thank you! I like that rack that you build also. Is that very easy to make?
Thank you Robert Chadwick. The rack is very easy to make. I used truss brackets from the home centers for the ends, angle brackets for the "feet" and all thread rod. You might have to drill out a few of the holes for the rod but it works great.

Very helpful video! I am having problems with the paint having pin holes. I built my own fluid bed and it almost looks like the powder is boiling. Could that be the issue?
Matt Wilkerson It shouldn't be. Are you getting an oil on the jigs first? The air should be turned down do you don't get the little "volcanoes" in it, but I have not seen pinholeing of the paint. Are you using ProTec Paint?

Yes pro Tec paint. I will try turning my bed down some. It happens with every color I have.
@@mattwilkerson8432 you could be getting your jig to hot before going into the paint, he is running 20 seconds because its a big jig, each size will have a different times. I am around 8 seconds for a 3/8 oz jig
If you want to do multi colors on jigs that you want to bake. Bake the base coat first then reheat and add the other colors. Otherwise you can have the colors run like you see in the video. I have done up to five colors on my fire-tiger ones. Chartreuse for the base-coat, Clear sparkle over the base-coat, White on the belly, Red or Orange throat, Dark Green or Black back. All but the Chartreuse is done by the sprinkling from paint brush method. Just heat between coats to both bind and prepare for the next color. Try on your fish looking jigs, with a fire-tiger skirt.
Michael Ennis that sounds like a great tip! When I get the base coat a little thick is when I have the running. Gotta be fast on the dip and not get too hot.

Hey Scott. What size PVC did you use to make your fluid bed? And what is the length of PVC cut to?
B Hunter I used 1-1/2" and it's about 3" tall on top of the coupling. Think about the jigs you'll be painting. How long are they going to be and how much paint do you want to have to have in your fluid bed to be "deep enough" Yours might be different than mine.

Take some aluminum angle and screw it together with some silicone in between. You can bake your jigs upright and the extra paint runs down towards the good and hanger.
Patrick Cleveland I'm not sure I follow you on that. If I do, I would be baking a lot fewer per batch in the toaster oven but I see the point about paint run.

Great video Scott, thank you for sharing! Question: How come you dont just use a toaster oven to get the jigs to temperature and then dip them each one at a time, thus keeping the others hot until you grab it out of the oven to dip?
good question. it's alot more in and out and very hot. I now dip them right out of the mold. Much faster if you are only doing one or two at a time. I hope you subscribed and hit the bell icon to turn on notifications. I'm trying to get to 100k this year and revive the channel a bit and every little bit helps!
I subscribed to your channel, I like the jig head content. I ended up getting a fluid bed since they are so cheap on eBay so I can do it all correctly. I will try dipping them right out of the mold, that sounds like a great idea, I can’t believe I didn’t think of it. Thanks for mentioning it. I have limited working space, so I kinda have to separate my oven process. I wonder what temperature is recommended by Pro-Tec is, bc I would be curious to try them all in the oven but I imagine if you dip them right after pouring that the temperature of them should be around 450-500? I have no idea how fast hear dissipated from smaller jig heads 1oz and under based on normal room temps

I'd skip buying the overpriced Protec paints.WTH is it now,$6+ for a stinking little 2 oz jar, especially if you're wasting a lot of it painting with a brush like that. You can buy powder paints from other companies for $10-20+ for 1 pound (that's 16oz) depending what colors and types. All you need is plastic or glass containers,I picked up a dozen plastic mason jar style for about $12 off amazon.
I'd also just use sewage PVC pipe for the fluid bed and skip that coupler/union for a cap and straight connector,it's a lot cheaper than sch 40.
I don't have a Pro mold for my larger jigs,I just use 3/8 and 1/2 oz for striper. What I do is dip it as soon as I pull it out of the mold and remove the sprew.More than 2 seconds out of the mold the MIT powder I use won't stick to the jig and you have to reheat it with a heat gun and then dip.Doing it that way I do not have to clean one eye and I've also been triple coloring them.I then cook at their recommended heat range and time, depending on powder color,at 392 or 400 for 7 -10 min. 410*F doesn't cook off the coating but 450+ will as I found out with a failed thermostat....talk about stink...haha and it's probably just as good for you as welding galvanized...
Also having a oven thermometer/thermostat is better than relying on any ovens marked setting, you'll be amazed how far off any of your ovens temp settings and actual temp is.Or just how much the temps fluctuate between each use.
rider660r I get it and I've heard it before, but for the work involved and what this is saving me overall $6 is not that big a price to pay. It's $6. I went through over 350 jigs last year and probably over 400 the year before on 1# of white, and a 2oz jar of pink that I still have over 1/2 of. The # of white had a couple ounces left... So $30~ of white (our main color) is good for about 1000 jigs.
