    I have been painting eyes on jigs for years, Keep the plastic tops off your water bottles and put a drop or two of paint in it and use a short piece of tygon string trimmer fuel line which comes in about 4 different sizes dip the end in the paint and just touch your jig and boom you have a perfect eye and like some others have said a tooth pick nipped off to your liking will make a perfect pupil. When done just throw your bottle cap away.

    Toothpicks work good for the small “pupils”. A bamboo skewer works good too. Cut them down to make the dot sizes you want.

    I just use two pencils I shave one down, and lightly shave the second then I got the eyes on paper until I get the perfect set.

    Good tutorial, Eric!
    I use a short piece of wooden dowel about the diameter of a pencil. Both ends are sharpened in a pencil sharpener. Both points are then ground down. One diameter, smaller than the other. These are used to paint like you’ve instructed.
    If you want an oblong eye with a round pupil, ground down the larger point on an angle.

    Looks great Eric! Love the colors. Heard most guys use the flat back side of drill bits. This seems like it would work easier with the rounded ball tools. Thanks for sharing Eric.

    I use a a couple different wooden dowels and for the smaller pupils I use the end of a tooth pick.

    You can get this paint from Dollar General also. I did this for years, but with different size nails that I stuck into a wine cork. The nail art styluses work much better, though. When I first started painting, my eyes on. I was using ball jigs, and stick on eyes do not work real well on round jigs.

    I ordered paint and the dotting tools off Amazon earlier in the week, haven’t had a chance to use them yet. Hope to get in the shop later today to try them out! I like Dennis’ assembly line method; paint it, hang it, move to the next. I bought a small shelf rack to try that, one I can set my UV light on top of to cure them. Fingers crossed for good results!

    Great tips and new ideas.
    I have also seen small diameter silicone fuel line, like used on weed eater and chain saws. Leaves center ( pupil ) same color as jig head. Or you can put small dot of any color in center.
    Really enjoy your jigs and watching your tying methods. Keep up the great work.

    I just use Q-tips. Cut one in half for eye and then whittle other half down to a point and that’s the pupil. Dab paint based on size of eye. I do like your way too.

    That looks excellent. I've tried doing this with Toothpicks with cut out circles of foam paper glued to the toothpicks. Your system looks easier & very good. Can you bake the jigs with acrylic paint on the heads?

  • @rider660r
    @rider660r 2 года назад

    Instead of doing that in a vise I'd lay them all out in a line on a table or counter and go through and do all one side. Then if it's a long enough line,by the time you're done the beginning will be dry and just flip it over and paint it.
    If you're doing round heads or another type other than the pill you'll have to use a vise or put them in something to hold them from rolling around.

    I followed this technique and found out that the eyes wash off in the water because the acrylic paint is water soluble. It needs to be top coated heavily or you need to use other paint. Have you found this to be true also?
