Heh lucky guy that you work on those cars i do to when something that is ez to fix and it costs a lot more at dealer but sadly i dont know much about ABC system maintenance. :/
MoparViking70 it’s only dirt cheap because it was once a 100k dollar car , but compare to most car with the year it’s expensive . A sl55 2003 would be around 10k , most 2003 car would be around 2 k to 3k . It’s not necessarily cheap in market standard .
Completely left out the C55 AMG. I have owned my 2005 car for 4 years now and love it. It is my daily driver and has had only a starter issue in all those years. Great car.
I own a CLK55 and I can assure you that any AMG will be expensive to maintain. With a car like an AMG, you have to visit specialists or dealerships more often to keep on top of the maintenance. If cared for properly though it'll be fine... My one wasn't really looked after so I've spent a lot of money on getting it great, to be fair though I've done around 5-6k miles in the car since purchase. It is intoxicating and fun, which is my eyes means its worth every penny, besides these big beasts will be worth some money due to regulations etc. Snap one up whilst you can!
I own a 2005 S65 AMG, the W220 model, it had 29400 miles (47000 KM) on the meter when I bought it in Sep 2014, I had to change the front discs and pads due to rust, the previous owner didn't use the car much and left the car standing for a long period of time, so left disc started to rust, BOTH sides had to be changed, apparently you can't just change on one side, anyway, that change cost me approx 3000Euro. I also changed the oil and oil filter in the ABC system, 700Euro. I've had other expenses, like winter tires on original 19" AMG rims, undercoating, and service, hence nothing related to repairing or changing anything due to malfunction. Til this day 21 March 2017 I've had no issues with it and the meter is now on 35000 miles (56000 KM), I don't use the car much either, I just want to prove to you all that an old Merc doesn't necessary have to suck, it all comes down to how it's been taken care of! Good luck finding your dream car! PS: The car is now for sale, in case you're interested, check out FB page AMG of Sweden.
Quite funny how you are trying to explain that its ok to own old merg, not that expensive and that its good and the last sentence is that you want to get rid of it and sell it.
@Anthiny: No, since MB/AMG announced that they will no longer manufacture the V12 I've been having some seconds thoughts, maybe I should keep it, maybe it will increase the value, I don't know, however, it's still for sale, tho at a higher price!
I bought a 65k miles 2005 CLK55 AMG around 3 years ago, it's been serviced, the sensor on the gearbox fried and replaced, had a head lamp problem fixed, which required the front bumper and arch liners off, and now needs a front suspension bush and the two piece front rotors and pads replaced. OK some expensive parts but it's a proper AMG, Mines a Designo version too. It's so nice to drive and own, it will take something very very special to replace and now on 80k miles. If you look after your cars, chose well, it's a very rewarding car.
Its really like any used car shopping always look for the best choice with good history and maintenance .. i bought a 2007 cls500 , had a transmission change and engine check up at the dealer , the airmatic suspension replaced with normal springs and new brakes and tires .. i know it sounds like the car went through a lot but when you know that the previous owner did all the hard job you end up with a reliable daily luxurious car 👌
You forgot the C55 AMG from 2005. It´s way better than the W210 because it doesn´t have rust issues because it´s the facelifted version of the C class from that era. The non facelift can rust.
I have a 2004 Jag XJR and a 2005 SL55, I love them. Yes parts are pricey, but once you replace them they last for a long time. Most things I replaced were original and they were 10 years old or older at the time. The cost of ownership is actually quite affordable since most of the depreciation is done with.
I've had a E55 from 1998 for a year now, it's my first Amg and I'm very happy with it. If I would have bought this car when i was 20 years old nothing would work by now, constantly doing kick down and donuts on parking lots would have destroyed it, but i am 35 years and always have a child in the backseat so nothing has ever broken on the car, everything works like a charm 😄

He is right on point. I researched all these big motor babies and found Fantastico Deals @his quoted prices and much less in fact. Cheers to the car dude!!
I wouldn't by a second hand AMG from England because with a max speed limit of 100km/h the Cars don't get driven properly .it's the worst thing you can do to an AMG.
Actually these 5.4motors in particular are kind of lazy. Yes even the stock supercharged ones are very lazy. They aren't high strung and are more than happy sitting in traffic or cruising at 100km. You don't need to drive them hard to keep them in good condition. Personal ref, w210 and w211 e55 AMG, still own the w210, a 2000 model, still drives as hard and smooth as day 1. I'm not saying a proper drive isn't a good idea, but we're not dealing with race engines here.
I live in Australia and own a E55..I bought it 7 years ogo for$ 37000 ..The E55 average price is betwwen 20 to 30 Grand so there still expensive but dam you get a real Car....Ive dome some engine modification and has just under 510 klw and runs mid 10s .... .
I think your right but you would be wiser buying a lesser engine even a diesel just for practical purposes and the fact the money you save can be used for maintenance
They are great when they work, but they will leave you turning tricks to keep them repaired as they will break frequently and cost an indecent amount to fix.
Is it really that cheap to buy a used car in the UK, or are you just lying, because I checked out all of these cars, and the cheapest ones I could find (in Finland, mind you) were: E55: 8500€ CLK55: 19000€ SL55: 37000€
Nice, but what's the point of this contextualization? I don't get the hype on G-Wagons either, but if sb. wants one, he will barely get an roadster instead.
Got a w209 clk55 and love it, on a highway it's scary how it keeps on pushing passed 100km to 180km like it's nothing. That V8 is legit.
Got the coupe version of the w220 S-Class, a 2001 CL55 AMG. it's a 2001 it's crazy fast and big so people move real fast!

With £ 20.000 I'll buy that Mercedes-Benz SL 55 AMG, and also the Mercedes-Benz S Class of Used Cars Bargains video, having an Luxury Hard Top Convertible, and a Luxury Sedan
I'll take all of them. Thanks very much!
what about CLK 63 AMG that you can also have for like 20-30k??
13 years old car is not aged car, problem is today cars are crap after 7 years of usage.. I remember old mercedeses ladas and yugos if u drive 30 years old car than u say its aged... Today cars are just crapp.
You've got it the wrong way round, mate.
MakeSh00t actually, new cars are way more reliable. I mean for fucks sake, consumer reports put bmw im 3rd place for overall reliability
The reason communist cars weren't considered old is because any car was a luxury
I have a 2004 C200 and is an amazing car
The top speed is 220 km/h
C209 CLK280. It still made 155mph. Very cheap now.
Very good video. It could have been about 20 minutes longer though. The host is pretty good!
He is right on point. I researched all these big motor babies and found Fantastico Deals @his quoted prices and much less in fact. Cheers to the car dude!!
A dream to see these prices in Australia at the moment in 2021... SL350 is around 40K AUD.
Nice review. Thanks! 💯🙏 🙏
I would never buy an old merc in uk because of rust
I like Johnny the most.
I want my first car to be a Mercedes or BMW preferably Mercedes this was the exact video I was looking for
Buy mercedes
what about c 55 amg?
I own a CL55 AMG... This is a really good video..I enjoy the performance, but don't abuse the car..it loves to be driven! NO garage 👑 queen here, LoL!
Not sure about them estimates 150 quid is extortionate for drop links and crank shaft position sensor will be a lot more than 100 pound
Jonny could have his own shown doing this kinda thing
I live in Australia and own a E55..I bought it 7 years ogo for$ 37000 ..The E55 average price is betwwen 20 to 30 Grand so there still expensive but dam you get a real Car....Ive dome some engine modification and has just under 510 klw and runs mid 10s ....
.
I think your right but you would be wiser buying a lesser engine even a diesel just for practical purposes and the fact the money you save can be used for maintenance
CL 500 or even AMG series is also a good choice :)
I agree
How about an SL55 powertrain in the CLK chassis?
U GUYS NAILED WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR LOL
Didnt Johnny work for revs or redline back in the day?
What about a CLS 55 I am looking to buy one of those soon!
Out of these 3 the E55’s are the most reliable. According to forums and these are not my words.
Probably, but if I ever got an E55 I'd get the W211. The W210s are a rare sight because of rust.
@@Corvolet5 They are not rare to see but w210 is the better car to drive. W211 rusts alot too
They are great when they work, but they will leave you turning tricks to keep them repaired as they will break frequently and cost an indecent amount to fix.
In France a clk amg 55 is around 19000 euros for 100 000 km
Over in Canada and the states they starting to go up in price, they getting snapped up.the 1998-2005 e55 amg
Who the hell wants a G Wagon when you can spent your money of these for a fraction of its price
Anyone else think the plate on the sl55 says "bait dealer "
is this re-uploaded?
Lucky Witjaksono yes i v seen it a year ago..
and they still cant spell mercedes
yeah
Is it really that cheap to buy a used car in the UK, or are you just lying, because I checked out all of these cars, and the cheapest ones I could find (in Finland, mind you) were:
E55: 8500€
CLK55: 19000€
SL55: 37000€
The Mercedes-Benz motor cars are the best I would love to have a sl 55 with476 bhp it's like driving a rocket
There aren't any SL's near me to test drive. I'm 6'4 with longer legs( 38 inseam)
Don't know if I can fit in one comfortably
I'm 6'3 235 and fit fine in sl500.
@@nowthatsfunny1 thank you... i drive an E350 now, it's comfy, but only for about 4 hours or so. Any long drives I'll have to stretch my legs
Prices are climbing crazy for AMG 55
Nice, but what's the point of this contextualization?
I don't get the hype on G-Wagons either, but if sb. wants one, he will barely get an roadster instead.
I definitely can go with secondhand Mercedes-Benz. They aged gracefully
Surprised the cl 55 wasn’t on this list
That rust is a damn shame, that is why I love my '97 Volvo S70 no rust, nowhere.
Lucky Europeans got the massive 420CDI diesel, so much torque...
Mercedes were built like tanks prior to 1997 with much thicker paint and greater overall build quality.
Now they are like any other car
Just look at the a class, only reason you see so many is cheap finance, and a "good" badge
Why does this episode look so old and don't tell me it was re uploaded because I'm pretty sure uber wasn't around at the time
Where is BB DLR and YF53 KTV now I wonder?
B8 DLR is still very much around with the same owner ! just on a different number plate now. An absolutely amazing car :-)
If Lord Blackwood says they're good, they must be.
CL55's are also a great bargain.
1:43 cl55
Im so confused why people pick a sl 55 over a cl 55?. The cl was a hard top not convertible like the sl!
How come the sl55 is supercharged and it Literally says on the side it says v8 biturbo makes no sense?
5:44 it says Kompressor
