    Nice, unlike the sword, you have to actually take into account many other things than just holding the weapon firmly, you have to be more flexible, which is very nice.
    Will you some day teach us about how to fight against or with various kind of weapons (like sword vs spear) or how to fight against armored men?

    • @Dreynschlag
      @Dreynschlag  6 лет назад +9

      We are indeed planing something with heavy armor in the not so distant future. :)
      Various kinds of weapons maybe at some point. It is a really interesting problem to solve, unfortunately there are only a few transcripted techniques covering this.

      @@kelamullah1999 Interestingly, there are old European martial art styles used from these times and were combined with weapon skills, both in and out of armour. The two major ones we know of from Medieval times are Ringen and Abrazare, and they are almost identical to Japanese Jiujitsu in how they function.

    I heard that quarterstaffs were the most dangerous weapons because when sparring with literally any other weapon your not using the weapon itself you are using a non lethal version of it but when sparring with a quarterstaff how do you have a non lethal stick

    • @Dreynschlag
      @Dreynschlag  6 лет назад +5

      That is absolutely correct. The staff is among the most dangerous weapons to sparr with (in our experience), since it is very difficult to find a suitable sparringsweapon that is safe and can be handled the same way like an actual staff.
      Specially techniques like the "helicopter" strike (which we show on episode 4) are very, very dangerous if applied in even friendly sparring.

    I'm new to quarterstaff fighting and one thing strikes me (pun intended) : the lack of hand protection.Even with a simple attack like this it seems dangerously easy to hit your opponents hand. Is this a problem when sparring ? If so, how do you deal with it ?
    Also, nice video.

    • @gavinlee6196
      @gavinlee6196 6 лет назад

      Na, they got protection glove things

    • @steevemartial4084
      @steevemartial4084 6 лет назад

      Of course they do, that's not what I meant. Mair's system represents unarmored fighting, so you shouldn't need gauntlets to pull off his techniques

    • @gavinlee6196
      @gavinlee6196 6 лет назад

      Steeve Martial oh... then there must be some hand protecting techniques, or u just wear gauntlets just in case... but I’m no expert so I can’t say anything about this... but I think it is easy to slide ur hands on tht staff, maybe just slide away?

    • @steevemartial4084
      @steevemartial4084 6 лет назад

      I don't know if you can just slide your hands fast enough or how convenient it is (when attacking for instance). That's why I'm asking them. This kind of problem would be revealed when sparring, when your opponent doesn't attack exactly the same spot on your staff.
