Larry, I have been watching your content for quite some time but just realized today that you took a silhouette sunset photo of me as photographers at Pikes Peak and put it to Speed Hunters in 2013. Best to your success! Gas Gas.
AWESOME VIDEO. just stunning cinematography. Thank You SIR Larry C . Thanks go out to the team u have around u silent an unseen but JUST AS CRUCIAL TO THE TOTAL TEAM . KEEP these long vids as ( approaching OCD) descriptive and just WOW Big badass BLUE OVAL.....
I still struggle to believe the 6k lbs of downforce figure at just 150mph. That is an incredible amount which I think would be more than any other road based vehicle. Even the fan based McMurtry Speirling “only” makes 4400lbs of the stuff. I’d love to see or hear more about the aerodynamic work on this to achieve that result.
Given this is probably twice as wide and twice as long (So 4x the area) of the McMurtry, to have the same PSI underneath it would have to have more than 16000lbs .... SO in terms of the actual force underneath, this is less than half the McMurtry.
Man that thing would be dope with a supercharged coyote just whaling at 9k rpm up the hill. The electric route is interesting for this though, zero drawbacks from elevation for a battery lol.
Not to downplay any achievement the Ford team made but making loads of down force is easy. Minimizing the corresponding amounts of drag is the tricky part.
@@VnVnV-893 well yeah I have my own opinions about the downforce figure and its validity. Though without knowing much else it’s hard to say they didn’t work extremely hard to get efficient airflow over the vehicle, of course acknowledging the much lower air density at Pikes Peak that will influence where their priorities are for achieving the fastest vehicle possible up the hill.
@@ALMX5DP I image that because of the air density issue, down force is king at pikes peak irregardless of any drag penalties considering the historical approach to aero at pp has been the largest rear wing you can fit with cranked aoa and aggressive air dams at the front. @@VnVnV-893 ohh gotcha, yeah so many outlets have parroted that line. I completely agree, especially since no one that I’ve seen has really asked inquisitive questions on that specific aspect.

This is a machine to go under 8 minutes, but those 25 secs stopped kept it away from a stronger result. 12:10 Considering he had to access the VW ID.R from the roof, it's definitely in the opposite end of cockpit room

Sorry Larry. Won't be watching any EV content. Boring and extremely boring. The hardest part of pikes peak is making a car perform at the bottom, the middle, and at the top. Electric motors don't care about elevation or air quality. Than throw on a bunch of wings and a giant splitter? Yeah, I'm out

Reminds me of when, literally AGES ago, Renault slapped a 3.5 liter V10 F1 engine in an SUV called the Espace. A sight to behold at the time.

This has gotta be one of the funnest builds for this course. The truck looks amazing. Great work.
The thing that always gets me is how high the driver is off the ground in the supertruck & van.
You should check out the Paris - Dakar rallies, they use semi trucks to race with. And they race semi trucks in Europe.
"I got the same 🧢 as you! Is that ok?"
The video (& Larry) really needed that at that exact moment!

it has a massive floor, I'd believe it
Pikes peak has essentially no restrictions on aero so the engineers can go wild
You have to consider how much smaller the Spierling is. The truck is nearly twice as long.

That’s a long way from a f150
If they're going bespoke anyway, should try it on the Mustang GTD or the new Ford GT based chasis.
idk how to feel about this. cuz it looks really cool, but half the experience of a car is the sound. electric cars dont have that.

What kind of power does this veh create and are they any 0-60 and 1/4 times available in its fastest settings?

pikes peak was neutered the minute it was paved all the way up. used to be impressive. driving up paved roads isnt difficult

6000lbs of down force? can the tires even handle that?, the RB17 produces 3700 pounds of down force at 150mph and thats limited because of tires.
