Ulthane was one of the three conspirators that were the catalyst for the premature apocalypse, the other two being the conspiracy's mastermind, Abaddon, and the Angel of Death, Azrael. Ulthane's role was the creation of the Armageddon Blade, a weapon capable of breaking the Seals along with destroying that weapon and reforging the seals afterwards to erase the evidence. When everything went wrong and the forces of Hell won the End War, Ulthane hid himself upon the Earth for shame of his deeds. DS3 is still set before and during DS1 so don't expect any advancement in storyline beyond filling gaps for the continuation of DS1 ending.

Death is the oldest and War is the youngest of the 4. Death is the one of the 1st born of the nephilim.
Missing one cutscene, actually. You can go to him without all the sword pieces and you'll get a unique cutscene in which War tells him Abaddon is the Destroyer.

He is the eldest of the surviving Nephilim ever since he and the other Horsemen carried out the extermination of the rest of their kind on the orders of the Charred Council. It's just the fact that in these scene Ulthane said he does not fear Death and that for us Death is not a person but in this game and story Death is a (person kind off) and War was bad ass and said that is not death he should fear

Did anyone know there's another cut scene with Ulthane if you go back to him before you get all the Armageddon Blade shards? That one is missing from these clips. It's a really good one too.
In the Darksiders 2, the makers (Carn, at least) said that Ulthane was the last person to use the portal of the Tree of Life to escape from their realm. He ended up on earth, where we just saw him.

Yah truth be told even I missed it when I was playing the game.
CJake3 I actually only found it by accident. I was getting the piece near him, and I was like, "maybe I should pop in, see if he has anything to say for himself." and he DID have things to say.

"It's not death you should fear" Yeah but... He killed the strongest Nephilim solo, who was powered up by corruption, fought an "uncaged" Samael at full power without even so much as a shrug, and killed probably tougher opponents mid game than Abbadon tbh. Argul WAS the King of the dead, after all.

Kevin Spiller death was also far from full power the horseman are at full power only when the seven seals are broken.

Wars personality is all honor bound he's kind of boring compared to how charismatic death is, then again that's the same reason a lot of the characters in darksiders 2 dont really like death...hes arrogant.
