everyone keep in mind that while darksiders is happening, darksiders 2 is also happening and death is going through heaven, earth and hell without the councils permission, When death went to the well of souls and resurrected humanity, he "died" but when war broke the seventh seal he resurrected death, thus successfully Restoring humanity, saving war and bringing death back.
The brutality and serious viciousness of War and the demons make this the best in the series by far. Samael is king in making it so good. He isn't the villain but he's close enough to making you feel like you are talking to and learning about the biggest villain in the game that even without meeting The Destroyer, you know he must be a big deal to keep Samael locked away.
Samael is delusional as fuck if he thought he could take all the four horsemen at once,Death kicked his ass by himself without being at full power and Samael was at full power,no wonder War showed no fear of Samael when he got in his face after regained his full strength by eating all the heart's of the chosen.
manuel1654088 If you read the comics you’re really understand the depths of Samael’s power. Death did not kick his ass in that game Samael was winded but not beaten don’t fool yourself. If you read the comics you’d know the Dark Prince the Supreme ruler of Hell fears Samael’s power for good reason Samael is the only Demon Lord in Hell who matches up to him. Even the Horsemen knew this when they addressed Samael to warn him about keeping the peace between Heaven and Hell because they knew he would soon succeed Lucifer and rule Hell. Samael is more powerful than you understand so YES it would take all 4 to bring him down!
Bo Banesz It was said that his power rivaled the dark prince aka Satan power not surpassed it.Death defeated him without his full power and War did not fear him in the slightest without his full power. The four of them working together would absolutely destroy him.
manuel1654088 In the game it said that I’m telling you what the comics which is the original source said he rivals Lucifer’s power and it is inevitable that he will succeed him which is why the Charred Council sent the horseman to address Samael and not Lucifer. War is not afraid of anyone so you’re not saying anything there. The bottomline If Samael wanted to he would’ve beat the shit out of War the same way he would’ve beat Death if he truly wanted Death dead, Death was in Samael’s realm where his will is supreme. Death maybe the strongest horseman but Samael is older and stronger than the horsemen it would certainly take all 4 just like the tale says when the 7 seals are broken ALL FOUR will ride to judge the Lords of Heaven and Dregs of Hell.
Bo Banesz The comics aren't the source, the comics were released before the game as a backstory just like the Prototype games have prequel comics. The source material is the game.Your speculating and I'm giving you facts from the game,Samael thought he was more powerful then he actually was,the destroyer imprisoned him,He threatned War and War didn't move an inch,Death beat him while he was trying to kill him.Now Imagine all 4 of them coming at him in their horsemen forms, that's just overkill.
According to darksiders 2, all the chosen are actually Abyssal creatures, neither angelic or demonic in origin. They, like frostbane for argul, were summoned to serve from the abyss, and as such their souls aren’t bound to the well of souls. Therefore none of them are wholly dead, and may yet be summoned again in due time.
In 2 we saw him before he left for earth. In 1 we found him imprisoned. I wonder if and in what capacity we might see him in 3. After all, how exactly did a being so powerful end up in chains?
Funnily enough, insofar Samael has never played the villain in the story. He supports War in Darksiders 1 and Genesis, admittedly much more for his own benefit yet nonetheless his support serves the Horseman’s mission. And as for Darksiders 2 he isn’t so much a villain as a briefly antagonistic presence that ultimately is helpful. He’s either testing Death or is just bored and having a little fun.
@@ianbramble8182 It’s a bit generous to call him an anti-hero since his motives, methods and overall goals are far from heroic. His motives are all ultimately self-serving, his methods are all deceptive, conniving or manipulative and his goals, or what little we know for certain are centered on himself. In 1 his desires are for power (technically having his returned to him but ultimately a self-centered goal) and revenge rather than making the universe a better place deceiving War for damn near the entire time. In 2 he’s more interested in the spectacle of Death having another showdown with Absalom and what future events would unfold. In Genesis he’s interested in maintaining, rebuilding and expanding his power base, possessions and domain. An anti-hero is still out to better the world, Samael is far more neutrally inclined. Preferring to maintain his position as a nigh-untouchable spectator rather than as an active force for good or evil.
@@rustkarl you bring up good points, perhaps the word I’m looking for is a anti-villain. I would also like to think that Samael would betray his master again to either take his throne or to prove a point, primarily, look at this, I could easily take this if I wanted to, because you are no threat to me
@@ianbramble8182 Hmmm. I suppose anti-villain works better. And I believe it’s stated that Samael could have made an attempt on Lucifer’s throne but chooses not to. I think it’s because he doesn’t want to be a leader, he wants to be an observer.
Iximnas He's also the English voice for Asura from Asura's Wrath and the English voice for Gaara (aka the only good voice in the English version) in _NARUTO/NARUTO: SHIPPUDEN_ .
Hes tons of voices in fallout new vegas also. And he's the voice of the main character tenma in the anime Monster. When i played this game it threw me off hearing him.
I just realized Samael's line of "Sometimes the Hero Dies at the End" is his way of covertly telling War that his death will break The Watcher's control over him.
I appreciate that Samael acted as a kind of mentor for War. He taught him that a being as powerful as himself shouldn't be held down by any outside forces, and that he's strong enough to make his own choices. I can't help but feel Samael's words/teaching played some part in why War rebelled against the Council and took matters into his own hands.
Samael: Focus your anger! A great rage stirs within you crawling to get out! you must release it or a puppet you'll be War pounds the watcher Watcher: What was that? Samael: For a moment,I saw one that would stand alone against the Destroyer's army... SHIT SO AWESOME! XD
Thanks so much for this, I had them all saved separately on my favorites... this game is one of my favorites of all time. This was so much better then the second game, War is a much better hero-ish character. I would love a high def version of all the cutscenes from Darksiders in one video.
IN all honesty, they're both great. "If it's madness, then who better to show me the way?" "No...This visit is...Unsanctioned. In fact...No one knows you're here."
Old comment I know but... In this case it’s a death threat that he is saying he’d rather not have to follow through. War is such a valuable pawn in Samael’s game after all. It was War who restored his power and ensured his release from imprisonment. Good pawns are hard to come across. Pawns that will do what you want, pawns that can do what you want. War is in a perfect position for Samael. He is strong enough to do what Samael intends him to do, yet not so strong as to force Samael into doing anything. He’s desperate enough to do what Samael wants him to do and not delve too deeply into it.
Panait Ciprian Read the comics, Death is stabbed by War through the chest and then proceeds to talk some shit about patience or whatever then cuts off War's arm and takes his sword. C'mon tell me that isn't strong.
"Sometimes the hero dies in the end!" A quote like this said to both War and Death by Samael can only mean trouble... I hope we will see it in a Darksiders 3... :D :P
I never understood why reviewers gave this game lower reviews than it deserved. Story? No, if I want an awesome story, I'll play an RPG (Yes, I know this is an action/RPG blah, blah, blah. Some of you what I'm saying.) Graphics? Yes, they were simple, but they were also bright and the art style amazing (a darker, more realistic tone could have more fitting though). Sound & voice acting? Come on now. War had one of the best voice actors since Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and Samael was bananas awesome. Gameplay? GOW, Zelda, & Metroidvania, all rolled into one. Best Idea ever, bar none. Can't wait for Part III!!!
***** Actually a few days ago there were some news about this. Supposedly the remaining of the original devs that made Darksiders I&II left Cryterion to form their own Dev Company and are thinking of making a third DS. I don't have a link to the article but surely you'll find it If you google it.
I thought the story was pretty good it doesn't matter if the story doesn't have that many plot twists, feels or even depth. if I get the sense of adventure, then the story's doing it's job right in my book
I think you misunderstood me. I didn't say "Story doesn't matter because it's an RPG". I'm not going to explain myself either. Instead, I'll give you kudos because people like you are the ones who push the medium forward. I am not big on story if the action or graphics are good, but I will say that my #1 game of all time is "The Last of Us", and that game wouldn't have happened if it weren't for people like you who harshly criticize and evaluate the games we play. So...thank you. (Just in case my response comes of as condescending/ or sarcastic, I am absolutely serious...thank you.)
And he was right both times. Though the first time was more of a threat. The second was foreshadowing. A hint to how perhaps Samael possesses some form of precognition or foresight. In two ways since Darksiders 2 takes place before the first. Death and War both died at the end. Though in War’s case it was a... very temporary issue.
Bit late for a comment about this guy, but one of my favorite quotes from this Samael always was: “There is little you can keep from me Horseman, once I have a mind to know it.” That should be terrifying to consider.
plz let there there be 3rd one, just look at how good the first one still looks. its my favorite game that trys to use a comic book style look and for its action and story
why was The Griever and The Stygian both Chosen? They seem like wild animals, powerful ones sure, but still just big demons. Tiamat and that spider,I can get, they're kinda smart, and kinda tough.
Intelligence probably wasn't the reason they were made chosen. Given what it takes to get to them and then beat that was probably reason enough to make them chosen
So does Samael want revenge against the Destroyer? Or does he really care? I know his true intentions are shrouded, but it seems like he's not that concerned about the destroyer even though the Destroyer locked him away...IDK
Perhaps he holds a particular contempt for him because he broke the Pact. Samael’s greatest peeve appears to be keeping to one’s word. Manipulative, dominating and dangerous he may be, but treachery on a pact sworn appears to be his line. The Destroyer attempted to cheat the system and break the seals and thus the pact far too early and then betrays all he once stood for when his folly becomes his downfall. This is merely speculation, but I think that was what lead to Samael’ “Resignation” when his contempt of him, and by some extension Lucifer for elevating such a creature, drove him to sever ties.
Love how at 6:17 it looks like he's done slamming that giant metal platform into the poor guy... then he decides to do one more for good measure. Also, Samael is a fuckin boss. Love how he just swats away the watcher
If I have one problem with these games its how..Weak the Four Horseman are portrayed. They are supposed to be the physical embodiment of Aspects or ideas that are by all accounts Eternal, War, Death, Famine. They are meant to be the Harbingers of Armageddon. As such no demon should be powerful enough to so much as threaten any Horseman. War especially since by his name you'd assume he's a warrior of unmatched skill and power.
+The Fan Without a Face There is a reason why they are so weak in the games: The horsemen are the physical embodiments of their respected names (War, Death, Strife and Fury), but only when their mission is given to them by the Charred Council. War was stripped of his abilities by the Charred Council and reduced to his regular Nephilim form. In the game, he starts as a strong as he was when he was still a Nephilim under Absolom's rule. His blade, Chaoseater was also stripped of its power, making it a rather inferior weapon amongst Nephilim craft... The reason why Samael could kill him, and Straga was able to kill him, was because he didn't had access to his full power. The same counts triple for Death: -His mission was unsanctioned by the Council, so he lacked most of the Horseman abilities and those he had, were far weaker than normal. -He lost a significant portion of his own power, after the Abomination Vault Crisis (see the novel, "Darksiders: The Abomination Vault"). -Since the mission was unsanctioned, he couldn't rely on Harvester, his own blade. Yet, he was able to harm Samael, during their battle. The reason why they aren't as strong in the game as they are in the overall mythos, is because there wouldn't be a game if they were on full power. Death in "Abomination Vault" is nigh-invulnerable and the wounds one does inflict are minor at best. I recomment reading the novel and see just how powerful they are, when they are on duty.
Considering how much war and death accomplished in their stories, and how many dead they left in their wake with the seventh seal still intact, I think the power that they gain after they all break is the embodiment of destruction power you seek
When he's taking about the old one his voice pitch and music really shows an I the only one who finds it therapeutic I find his monologue so deep and meaningful.
To this day Darksiders 1 and 2 remain close to my heart, and i wished they continued the series. Story is still not finished and for that i feel only sadness for such an awesome genre.
Great game, looking forward to the third. And I love war. He just don't care, he was told ask no questions and what is the first thing he did, asked a question lol
@@novemberalpha6023 but he didnt the game beats you over the head with it he lands one solid blow on a Samael thats messing around and he gifts death the key, remember the Demon can see into the past and future he more or less knows the outcome of the franchise and the creator himself has said at full strength he's on par with Lucifer both of which will take the 4 unbound horseman together to defeat.
I loved this game for many reasons, story was reasonable, characters were very fleshed out and likable, and the voice for War, Liam O'Brien voiced Gaara from Nartuo/Shippuden. You can hear the two similarities of the two characters.
War is so badass, a demon so powerful it actually is on par with the devil himself who was created by God is roaring i his face, and the dude doesn't even flinch
Seve Hynes30 People actually believe that death is the strongest of the four, when not only is it stated that title belongs to war (by the creators), it's proven (War fighting the other 3 horsemen himself, killing straga and the destroyer, and the charred council's fear over his power)
@@raphaelstevenson6426 In the novels itself (Abomination Vault, Grand abomination, etc) it's clearly stated that Death is by far the most powerful. I've been reading comments about this exact same topic back and forth, but literally hands down Death is OP level powerful. The problem with Death both in game and in the novels, is that he constantly holds back. Even when the other 3 horsemen fought War and cut off his arms, it would seem that War was so powerful that it took ALL 3 to subdue him, Death was holding back even then. He mentions that himself later on. Yes the Charred Council says the title of the "strongest" should be Wars, but we don't know what they mean by "strongest", his perseverance, dedication to his honor & duty, his lust for battle (Hence is namesake), his growing might in connection with Chaoseater? Mind you when the 4 were granted with unimaginable powers, and were tasked with destroying their Nephilim brethren, Death was tasked to fighting Absoloam in 1v1 combat. Even with all of their quasi-universal might, the other 3 knew they couldn't take on Absoloam (especially with him having weapons from the Abomination Vault), but knew Death most certainly could, and believed that he "wouldn't hold back", which to a degree he did by capturing and saving their souls. Even Lilith speaks of his immense powers, so much that she tried to actually hide from him. Samael speaks highly of death and doesn't mock him nor taunt him. And is out of breath after facing death in combat...mind you this Samael is in the past and is at FULL demonic powers and basically is toe-to-toe with Death (Even though their are hints that Samael was toying with him, seeing as Samael is near-omniscient and is aware of all actions taking place: past, present & future. Thus he may have allowed Death to win, to slightly alter the outcome of the future(s) [which he did, giving him the demon key and resurrecting mankind]). With the Vault Crisis, Death is hardly affected by the weapon known as the "Black Mercy", one of the most powerful of not the MOST powerful of the Abomination weapons. The Council, Samael, Lilith and even some of top Archon Angels and even Dreadlords of Hell have admitted to Death being near-invulnerable and also fearing his (full powered) "Reaper" form, in addition to them fearing his weapon/scythe, "Harvester". Death also has the ability to go completely unnoticed by the Charred Council, to go back and forth between times (past, present and future) as well as traveling between Heaven, Earth & Hell...unnoticed by the Charred Council? Death holds back his abilities, even with diminished powers he's still an extreme threat and force to reckon with. Shoot, he can still summon the Pale Horse, with 3/4 of his powers stripped from him? Both in game and in novel, Death is listed, described and accounted as the oldest (besides Absoloam) and most powerful living Nephilim. Even his official bio, says and declares that. The only current characters who are said to outrank him in both power and intelligence are (in order): (1)Lucifer (the dark one/the dark prince) (2)Samael (2)The charred Council (3) Drevon (possibly)

Man.. .so nostaligic, darksiders 1 and 2 were fucking AMAZING!
Yea
Darksiders 2 is my favourite game
samuael's character is extraordinary...thanks for the video.

War: Bruh, your breath is */literally/* hot as hell.
Spitting more fire than Eminem
The brutality and serious viciousness of War and the demons make this the best in the series by far. Samael is king in making it so good. He isn't the villain but he's close enough to making you feel like you are talking to and learning about the biggest villain in the game that even without meeting The Destroyer, you know he must be a big deal to keep Samael locked away.
4:54 Like a Sith Lord talking to his apprentice
The moment you realise War is voiced by Illidan's VA...
хмммм... да, похоже реально он... забавно. никогда не обращал внимания... :))
And Nightcrawler from Wolverine and the X-Men and Gaara from Naruto
And infinite from sonic forces, and Asura from asura's wrath
list goes on
And The Warden's male voice in For Honor
And Sanctus from Devil May Cry 4
MMMMMAAAAANNNNN this series should have been a hit. Darksiders art style lives rent free in my head
War's got some balls to give Samael that little smirk at 00:41.
I like when Samuel was roaring at War that as soon as War raised his head a bit...he stopped. Lol.
Philip Green I don’t think it was meant that way but ok
The fact that we never got and likely never will get a strife focused game is fucking criminal to me.
Say what you will, Samael is one of the best characters I've ever seen and he is honorable. Darksiders is terrific!
Fighting him as death is hellish awesome
The character interactions in these games are just amazing!
I really like samael's wings design
His entire being is dope
4:13 I love the sound of Samael's telekinetic ability.
I have just finished Darksiders 2 and i want to play Darksiders 3 :P...Thumbs up if you want it to!
there is no darksiders 3 out yet.
no shit.
Ace144 yes there is.
In 2 we saw him before he left for earth. In 1 we found him imprisoned. I wonder if and in what capacity we might see him in 3. After all, how exactly did a being so powerful end up in chains?
Hi
1:03 HE JUST SAID NO QUESTIONS.
lol!!
no questions pertaining to wanting the hearts
And revenge, I respect. Best Villian ever.
Samael tend to be more of a antihero than anything else, he’ll do the right thing, but only if it benefits him
@@ianbramble8182
It’s a bit generous to call him
an anti-hero since his motives, methods and overall goals are far from heroic.
I would also like to think that Samael would betray his master again to either take his throne or to prove a point, primarily, look at this, I could easily take this if I wanted to, because you are no threat to me
@@ianbramble8182
Hmmm. I suppose anti-villain works better.
And I believe it’s stated that Samael could have made an attempt on Lucifer’s throne but chooses not to.
I think it’s because he doesn’t want to be a leader, he wants to be an observer.
Everytime I hear the Watcher, I hear the Joker from Batman. Mark Hamill does a great job ^^
I just realized War has the same voice as Grimoire Weiss from the game Nier.
Darksiders just got more awesome for me :D
Iximnas
He's also the English voice for Asura from Asura's Wrath and the English voice for Gaara (aka the only good voice in the English version) in _NARUTO/NARUTO: SHIPPUDEN_ .
Don't forget the cancer of League of Legends Yasuo
How you could you guys forget the most important of them... the one above all......Illadian
Hes tons of voices in fallout new vegas also. And he's the voice of the main character tenma in the anime Monster. When i played this game it threw me off hearing him.
0:40 literally the only time War ever smiles
01:22 it's already too late samael.....
I have the high ground!.
One of my favourite games. One of those games I can replay over and over. Never gets old
I just realized Samael's line of "Sometimes the Hero Dies at the End" is his way of covertly telling War that his death will break The Watcher's control over him.
Less of a mentor and more of a manipulator I think lol.
is the voice of the watcher the same voice of the joker from the batman series? they sound very similar
Yes. Its Mark Hamil
Troy Baker also voiced in this game. But as Abaddon.
Samael: Focus your anger! A great rage stirs within you crawling to get out! you must release it or a puppet you'll be
War pounds the watcher
Watcher: What was that?
Samael: For a moment,I saw one that would stand alone against the Destroyer's army...
SHIT SO AWESOME! XD
Thanks so much for this, I had them all saved separately on my favorites... this game is one of my favorites of all time. This was so much better then the second game, War is a much better hero-ish character.
I would love a high def version of all the cutscenes from Darksiders in one video.
I love that Mark Hamill was in this. Threw me off when I heard the Joker tell him to rip his heart out.
WOAH WOAH WOAH! Hold up. I think I heard a Wilhelm scream when the Stygian was escaping!
Also I love Samael's voice actor. He is badass
Vernon Wells voices Samael. Epic. But doesn't beat Micheal Wincott voicing Death.
Death Good Point
IN all honesty, they're both great.
"If it's madness, then who better to show me the way?"
"No...This visit is...Unsanctioned. In fact...No one knows you're here."
Yay!
Also, anything you know about a possible Darksiders 3?
"i like stories with a happy ending" hard to believe from a demon lord...
Ikr a demons happy ending could mean the end of the world and all life on it
Old comment I know but...
I love samael's laugh at 4:11 it fit's his character perfectly
3 voice acting gods in the same scene. The studio must have been lit.
Is it just me or does Samael have a little scar on his left cheek from the battle against Death?
Where?
Pretty sure it's just you.
@@Kizur13 😂
So happy to see Illidan destroying demons from another franchise!
yea samael likes storys with happy ending that equals him not getting beaten by war i guess :D
scientist368 Dude......even death couldn't beat Samael, and death is a LOT stronger than War................
death was fooling around and death just have more survivability.war was the strongest.
+Wind Helm but you beat samael as death in the second game.
+Wind Helm death was holding his own against samel without the power of the seals so im pretty sure with the power of the seals death can beat samel
Panait Ciprian Read the comics, Death is stabbed by War through the chest and then proceeds to talk some shit about patience or whatever then cuts off War's arm and takes his sword. C'mon tell me that isn't strong.
I like how samael is all powerful all knowing and just gives no fucks
Review is about everything, darksiders's story is ok for me not that good but ok,and all reviewers suck.
***** Actually a few days ago there were some news about this. Supposedly the remaining of the original devs that made Darksiders I&II left Cryterion to form their own Dev Company and are thinking of making a third DS. I don't have a link to the article but surely you'll find it If you google it.
Sladjan Ivkovic I thought the story was amazing, plot twists everywhere.
I thought the story was pretty good
it doesn't matter if the story doesn't have that many plot twists, feels or even depth. if I get the sense of adventure, then the story's doing it's job right in my book
I recognize a quest for revenge when I see one, and revenge, I respect ! I love that quote !
3:50 "Be silent filth!" That should be meme!
Have you guys noticed what Samael told to War this "The hero dies in the end" is He told the exact same thing to Death in Darksiders 2.
@@YiruKS Or were they?..
why was The Griever and The Stygian both Chosen? They seem like wild animals, powerful ones sure, but still just big demons. Tiamat and that spider,I can get, they're kinda smart, and kinda tough.
Intelligence probably wasn't the reason they were made chosen. Given what it takes to get to them and then beat that was probably reason enough to make them chosen
Oh ok. Yeah that just kinda confused me for a while. Thanks
Beside. If they only strong but less intelligent they would be easier to control by whoever want to control them.
I think that’s worth enough. To be difficult to slay, and this difficult for most creatures that Samael can manipulate into retaking his power.
"If you are for up for sale, perhaps we can strike a deal"
"You won't like my terms"
Man, War is freaking badass 🗿
I love War's cheeky smirk as Samael is roaring at him.
“Had prison made you coward” is on par in badassery with master chief “what if you miss?” “I won’t”

‘My business is with the Horseman.’
It was at this moment I knew I liked this guy.
Definitely the most bad-ass character in the Darksiders universe.
i like how war smirk after he pissed samael, one of the strongest demon in the series.
He’s the second most powerful demon in existence. Only second to Lucifer in terms of raw power but very close
you are War. Rider of the red horse, not some puppet on some pathetic creatures string
So does Samael want revenge against the Destroyer? Or does he really care? I know his true intentions are shrouded, but it seems like he's not that concerned about the destroyer even though the Destroyer locked him away...IDK
He wants revenge against the Destroyer, but why do it, when he can have War do it for him.
actualy he wants revenge against his master, Lucifer...cuz he was the one who imprisoned Samael...the Destroyer is just a general of Lucifers armies
The same counts triple for Death:
-His mission was unsanctioned by the Council, so he lacked most of the Horseman abilities and those he had, were far weaker than normal.
BjornV1994 Nicely written, additionally the cells had to broken as well for them to have access to their full power.
Considering how much war and death accomplished in their stories, and how many dead they left in their wake with the seventh seal still intact, I think the power that they gain after they all break is the embodiment of destruction power you seek
They dont have their power unless the seals are broken. That's why they are so weakened. In wars case they took everything from war for his "crime".
one of the best character s in game Samuel
When he's taking about the old one his voice pitch and music really shows an I the only one who finds it therapeutic I find his monologue so deep and meaningful.
two things.1.this six eyed, weird thing drives me crazy as Hell!!!!2.Samael is an awesome dragon.

I loved this game for many reasons, story was reasonable, characters were very fleshed out and likable, and the voice for War, Liam O'Brien voiced Gaara from Nartuo/Shippuden. You can hear the two similarities of the two characters.
Goddamn War is soooo badass. Talks shit and then takes fire breath to the face as he stares Sammael down.
@@raphaelstevenson6426
In the novels itself (Abomination Vault, Grand abomination, etc) it's clearly stated that Death is by far the most powerful.
The only current characters who are said to outrank him in both power and intelligence are (in order):
(1)Lucifer (the dark one/the dark prince)
(2)Samael (2)The charred Council
(3) Drevon (possibly)
Strongest and most powerfull are two different things.
