Two reasons this has been a banner day for me: 1. I got the chance to meet Hickok45 and John in person at Buds Guns. 2. I bought a PPQ-M1 while there and had them autograph the Walther case. Life is REALLY good...
hmm. I got the nonthreaded version of the ppq as well and no golden letters. I think its only the first 1000 or something like that where they colored the writings. honestly it does only matter if you dont want to shoot it often and never use it holstered. I scrateched mine with holster and such. would not make a difference to me anymore.
Wonderful weapon. In my time in the USMC, DoD and as a Deputy Sheriff this is the best pistol I have been privileged to use and shoot. Thank you Hickok45 for giving this weapon more publicity.
My friend's brother just bought the walter ppq special with the threaded barrel and other custom options. I've shot this beauty at the range with him and the trigger is the absolute best trigger I have ever squeezed before. This gun has high mag volume, great recoil, perfectly consistent trigger pull, and has the perfect sized grip for my hands. I highly recommend this pistol as your carry or self defense. A must buy for any pistol lover.
After watching your first video on the PPQ, I tested one out, loved the feel and results. Purchased it in a 9mm a few days later. As of today 3/20/12, I've shot over 1,400 rounds through it since January. No problems either. Gun is flawless. Thanks for posting all these videos Hickok45. I enjoy them thoroughly and gain a lot of knowledge while doing so.
I picked mine up last week at B&B Firearms in Knoxville, TN. Got a really good deal on it too. The trigger on this pistol has to be experienced to be believed! It feels lighter than Walther advertises it. And it is super crisp. I highly recommend this pistol.
Glock for me was the be all end all of handguns. My wife bought me a Walther PPQ .40 and I have to say its one of the best pistols I have ever owned. I don't think I want to carry anything else. Thank you Gaston Glock I think I will be using Walther from now on.
I just went to my local range and fired 50 rounds through a PPQ. I could not believe how crisp the trigger is. No recoil. Excellent sight radius, and incredible sights. I might just have to get one now.
I just gifted myself a Walther PPQ M2 Q4 TAC 9 mm and could NOT be happier! That trigger! Beautiful! Smooth! Easy going! Recoil? Not bad at all! If I had known about this gun three years ago I would NOT have bought my Glock! I'm a WALTHER GAL ALL THE WAY!
I bought this gun without seeing this evaluation and I love this gun. Your testing and comments about it is awesome. Your shooting is out of this world. Wow!
Yes I know, but many people here watching here don't reference much earlier than WW2 or even care. That war was the one where the world became more aware of Walther, especially from American GI's who brought them home after the war. Many watching here were born after the Vietnam War. Kudos to the kitty.
Thanks for your great reviews as always! Went and got a Walther PPQ M2. No more Glocks for me. Nothing wrong with Glocks, just time for a change! Can't wait to shoot this new gun. Keep up the great reviews. Thanks for your honesty! "REMEMBER...SHOOT STRAIGHT...SHOOT FIRST!"
I recently purchased a ppq and am very happy with it. I feel that it is the best shooting striker fired pistol available. A couple points that I did not hear Hickok make about it though (maybe he did and I missed it). First, when you dry fire a glock, the trigger stays pulled back, so if you pick up a glock and the trigger is in the back position, you know that it is unloaded. (of course you should always verify this.) The ppq does not have this feature. The trigger always comes back to the forward position. Secondly, some have reported that the ppq M2 has a tendency for the mag release to accidentally be pushed, dropping the magazine. This has happened to me once in 500 rnds. Some people have addressed this problem by putting a stronger spring in the mag release. This is why some people also prefer the M1 version of the pistol, which this review covers. For me the ppq is the perfect combat handgun. It fixes the unpopular grip angle of the glock and has the best trigger available for a striker fired pistol. Thanks for another great review Hickok!
You are a Great spokesman for guns and the proper handling and respect one should have. It's obvious you enjoy what you are doing !!! It's also obvious that you can adapt to each gun and shoot them well !!!! I've watched Many Hickok45 videos !! I own the M2 version of the PPQ, nice gun, fantastic trigger !!! Hickok45, you are the "Gentleman of Firearms" !!! Love your channel !!! Best camera work, hands down.
Another nice video, I've been researching this pistol for some time and I recently bought two, one for my wife and one for me. Sadly I cannot comment on the PPQ M2 because I am in the waiting period. But I am very excited to shoot them. My wife has been shooting a Glock 17 gen 3 which is a little on the large size and does not have removable back straps, so when I decided to get her the Walther I got one for myself as well. Thanks Hickock45, your videos are entertaining and informative.
I have the PPQ M1 or classic with the lever style mag release. I had a great deal from Bud's gun for $469- a month ago. Today I just shot 200 rounds through it with no failures. What makes this gun better then most IMO, is simplicity, easy takedown and strip, you can change the sights in a few minutes, as well as easy sight adjustment with simple tools, no need to go to a gunsmith. Also it is full ambi( good for left handed). It's an accurate, sweet shooter with German engineering to back it up. If you're new to guns, this is the right choice for you. A modern polymer gun from which others will have to follow.
You got yourself an outstanding gun. I've had my M1 since last October and have put well over 1k rounds through, maybe even more than 2k, not a single stoppage. What I also like are that the mag springs still feel sturdy everytime I load the mags, yet not so stiff that I'd need to use a speedloader. The gun feels like a CZ 75 in my hand, which is about the highest compliment I can give to any polymer-striker pistol.
Well I have a XDm in layaway and I'm pulling it out tomorrow and buying a PPQ thanks to ol' Hickok45.Every time I watch one of your videos I wish you were my uncle or something so I could come hang out at your house, your the best man. When I'm considering buying a gun I always see what you have to say about it first.
Keep making these great videos Mr. Hickok45! I was browsing PPQs and decided to look if you had a video on one. You did and I enjoy your opinions. Great videos Hickok45.
what kickock does to me: I came here to watch a video about an old dude shooting the first handgun I ever bought and competed with in over 70 matches. I cant stop watching regardless of the fact that its saturday shops are closing till monday morning. I am in a state of happyness. beware of the old man !
Thank you Hickok45, your ppq videos inspired me to purchase my first ppq .40 two days ago. Let me just say, I like this gun better than my colt 1911. :) all smiles!
@hickok45 thank you for displaying the true pros and cons of the firearms in your videos I just purchased a Mossberg 500 12 ga pump after seeing your shotgun vids you are great!
I bought a Walther PPQ by pretty much watching this video and Chapter 1... didn't regret it for a second. Great pistol, easy to sight adjust, and like Hickok45 said... the TRIGGER is soo smooth for a striker Fired polymer framed handgun.
Hickok, thank you so much for these videos! You helped me choose the PPQ as my first firearm. Can't tell you how confusing all the options were, but it was great to see what this pistol could do in the hands of an expert. I tried one for myself and it was the only thing that made me as happy as shooting the $2000 Wilson Combat 1911. Thank you!
Bought a used PPQ M2 .45 ACP a few weeks ago. She ran smooth with Federal Full Metal Jackets but jammed on me with some Hollow Point Gold Tip rounds, because of the higher grain sized bullet. I was told to oil and clean the firing slide. I’m gonna go shooting again soon so we will see!
Hands down the PPQ, like the P99 before it, is one of the best handguns you can get. A bit of an unsung hero until recently, the ergonomics are what will sell most people right off the bat. They simply feel phenomenal in hand. The factory stippling is grippy as heck, it has a fantastic natural POA, and of course: the trigger. Consistent, crisp, incredibly short reset. Carl Walther has been around far longer than Glock and is used all over Europe. Affordable, and used all over Europe.
I have handled both these firearms and the PPQ wins hands down. Not only does it feel better in hand but it shoots perfect..carry it every day, very easy to conceal shoots beautiful never had a jam, miss fire or failure to feed. love it! buy one you wont regret it.
my good sir, I so enjoy your balanced, wise commentary. Plus you are good with your hands; the young ones generally don't recognize such skills. Fun stuff!
WALTHER!! By far my favorite handguns. I own a P99QA and a P99AS...soon to buy a PPQ. Fantastic handguns and superbly accurate. Hickok, glad to see that you like it.
I got to handle one of these today. Superb trigger. Breaks so quick and so clean that even if you do a terrible job pulling the trigger the front sight doesn't move.
I bought both. First the PPX. It has many good things going for it, smooth and light hammer fired trigger with a clean break, easy to rack the slide, easy takedown, good ergo's. Sold it to try the PPQ. Striker fire, Shorter trigger reset about the same pull and breaks about the same too, tougher slide pull, a little more recoil, 1 less round, even better ergo's. I love the PPQ with its better warranty than the PPX but the PPX was slightly a better shooting gun and easier to use controls.
Uber competitiveness from Hickok45. At the beginning of the video, when failed to get the gong with the last 4 rounds of the first mag, he inserts the second, and goes after the gong immediately. Successful this time... after cooling down from the original frustration. Glad to know he's human. We all let our emotions fly high and frustration taking over when the steel target keeps his freaking right to remains silent. We keep unloading until we hear the freeing echo of steel screaming: "you got me".
I so enjoy watching all of your video. You have taught me a lot and I enjoy watching you shoot different guns which is encouraged me to buy a Walther PPX....I love this gun, and the trigger is so sweet....also have a Glock 17, but I think I like the PPX better....haha. Well thanks again for your videos, I will continue watching them.....David
Walther's have got to be one of the most under-rated, under-reviewed pistols. I had a first generation P99 with the AS trigger that I regretted selling. Just bought a PPQ, can't wait to take it to the range.
Nice second video follow up on the PPQ. I bought this as my first semi-auto pistol after much research and after seeing your review I think I made a great choice. Probabaly going to get the PPS, too. I like that one and Beretta's new Nano but the PPS fits better.
I picked up my PPQ 9mm a few weeks back and absolutely LOOOVE it. I've put a few hundred rounds through it and it is just perfect. High recommended for anyone considering the purchase.
Looking at one of these for target practice at the range and was told it had an easy trigger pull so my finger wouldn't get tired. From this review and the first, sounds like that was true. Really fun to see Hickok getting such a kick out of shooting it; it's like he's addicted! A kid in a candy store. So funny. Guess it will be great for what I am looking for. Thanks Hickok. Always go to your reviews first when shopping.
Thanks Hickok45! Based on this review I picked up a PPQ three weeks ago. I LOVE it. Hard to not keep shooting... feel like I need to buy a semi load of 9mm rounds!
I remember 007 getting his Walther all the way back in Dr. No. For many of our younger viewers, that is going back to 1960's and Sean Connery; so this is actually a long standing 007 endorsement.
I ordered one, after seeing this vid, done deal (another great review from Hickok45. Here in Canada we only can get the Tactical/Navy version with the threaded barrel.
I finally added one to my collection today. I never was too fond of the styling but I haven't stopped talking about the trigger on this gun since I first shot one 6 years ago. I may turn sour on my XDs once I'm spoiled by this!
Just bought a PPQ M2 today. After shooting my wife’s ccp I was sold on the grips alone. Ergonomics are phenomenal on the walthers alone are amazing. And $100 plus cheaper than the glock 19x with LE discount.
A +++ rating on the PPQ M2 after firing over 2500 rounds of Blazer Brass 9 mm 115 gr through it. I love my PPQ M2 for a range gun. I like my Ruger LC9S Pro better for concealed carrying as it's smaller and lighter in weight. Both guns have nice striker fired triggers. I normally shoot the PPQ at the range as it's easier to take down and clean than the Ruger IMHO. I never owned or shot a semi automatic hand gun until I got my PPQ M2. It makes a beginner shooter a good shooter. I used the smaller back strap and it fits my hands fine. I've only been shooting now for about two years with pistols. But I can now draw out of my OWB holster and fire one shot and hit the 2" bulls eye on the larger Shoot NC targets from 25 yards some times and I'm almost always on paper or inside the first two inner rings. And I have been having problems with my eye sight and needed three eye surgeries this past year. I shot much better with the PPQ when I could focus on the sights and then the target at the same time. After my right eye cataract surgery I can't focus on the target and the gun sights at the same time. I can still shoot pretty well though. And I attribute the shooting ability to the excellent trigger on the PPQ M2. As far as holsters the AlienGear Holsters are nice. I would recommend the new Tuck 3.0. Magazines are costly unless you shop around. I have four magazines for my PPQ M2. Make sure you get the right one for the M2 as the M1 uses a different magazine. The holes in the magazine are not the same for the M2 and M1. The sights on the PPQ are nice for Quick Target Acquisition as the space on the back U shaped rear sights is wider than the front sight. The PPQ is basically a copy of Glock that has a better trigger out of the box and shoots better and more accurately from what I've been reading. And I've read hundreds of reviews on the PPQ.
Joseph Hammett I bought one myself and liked it so much that I bought the same gun in 22LR, and I do some steel chalenge with both of them, and many people come to ask me what kind of gun is that! both shoots very well!
Great video, very informative and definitely worth the watch! First thoughts were that pistols are only good at close range, but you've just proved that wrong!! Nice shooting, keep up the good work, if that's what you call it! I call it good fun!
I'm a left hand shooter and the release button is on the left with no issues using index finger on my ppq m2 . So for you right handed people change is good with practice.
After watching so many hickock45 videos, I've started chuckling happily to myself when I'm out plinking and shooting up random objects around the hillside.
I was looking to make my first purchase of a semi-auto pistol. After reading magazines and seeing your first video I decided I wanted a PPQ. In January I went to a gun shop and was informed the PPQ is not on the California approved list. Now I see this second enticing PPQ video... such torture.
I fondled this gun at the gun show recently, it's a real sweetie. Hickok is right about the trigger, it's sweet. I've always wanted a Walther and this one might be my next purchase...
The P99 AS is the concealed carry solution for the PPQ. The PPQ is really the replacement for the P99 QA (Quick Action). They still make the P99 AS. Its trigger has been hailed as one of the best triggers also. The difference that makes it a good option to carry is that the first shot can be a 11 lb double action pull, followed by all single action 5 lb pull after that. Very short reset as well. Features a unique decocker in the slide that allows you to reset the trigger to double action.
Walther PPQ you will not regret as you can choose (m1)Paddle or (m2)button .keep hand off trigger until (you are ready ! ) For a carry gun I have the PPQ M2 4" 9mm for $550 or $1400 for CZ75 Accushadow 2 for serious compitition
For anybody out there who's not super familiar with guns or at least some of the guns Hickok brings out and you're in the market to buy something here's a tip: if he does more than one video on it, it's usually a keeper.
Got one of these for ~530$ after shipping/ffl(no tax). Love it! Absolutely an amazing trigger. Only thing I wish is the mag release were a little wider near the grip similar to the USP, but I still make it work well! Very accurate for me, especially when using the close trigger reset.
Very intriguing, thanks for the video, Hickok. I would've never guessed I'd be thinking about a Walther instead of a Glock for my first plastic "wonder nine" lol.
Hi Hickok45. My first pistol was a G19. Since I've purchased a PPQ. When shooting at steel about 65 yards I find I'm 9 of 10 w/ PPQ and only 4 of 10 with the G19. I also shoot USPSA and find I shoot better with the PPQ. I really like the Walther!
I just bought one of these in the first edition a few hours ago :) Should be here at the end of the week, I'm pretty excited about it! I love my PPS and look forward to having a big brother for it.
Hickok, when the video slows down at the end, you sound like a badass roaring lion. LOL, cracks me up. I'm gonna have to look into this firearm - thanks man.
This is my newest duty weapon, being a smaller guy with matching hands I've always had a unnatural fit on most polymer guns, they all great and you should get what you want because no ones shooting it for you, but the natural grip and point of aim on this one is better than my P229 which was the best up until now. This dude is the bomb behind a trigger.
That's a really good point. I've noticed that people who really like Glocks usually hate the PPQ. Their grips couldn't be more different. The Glocks are flatter shooting, but I find that if I grip my PPQ tightly I can control the flip in 9mm no problem. Overall I love the PPQ and it's the most accurate pistol I've had.
Late to this party. Shot the PPQ today...OMG!!! I thought the CZ P10c had a fantastic trigger and great ergo...the PPQ is at another level. Shot like a dream, nice recoil...and it's a Walther. TIme to save up....and bypass the upcoming CZ P10s and just get a PPQ as my next gun - even if it's a bit larger than I prefer for my next gun. Love my G19 and I'll never sell it...but at the end of the day...it's still just a trusty "Honda Civic".
I was just comparing the acoustics between the PPQ and the Sig P226 in your videos, and all I noticed was that between winter and summer the echo difference on your range is pretty noticeable!
lol im not even into pistols but i still watch this, so addictive. i bet most of the ppl here open their subboxes everyday just to see if hickok post anything :-)
I carry with 15+1 and decocked in double action mode. The P99 AS will still fire when decocked, it will just be in double action for that first shot. It is also available in a compact version for better concealed carry which I am wanting to pick up. You should really do a review of it. If you like the PPQ I'm thinking you'll like the P99. It's still an available, excellent, firearm!
Two reasons this has been a banner day for me:
1. I got the chance to meet Hickok45 and John in person at Buds Guns.
2. I bought a PPQ-M1 while there and had them autograph the Walther case.
Life is REALLY good...
Thanks. It was good to meet you today!
hickok45 Do you know why yours has the gold lettering on it? Mine just has black lettering, its an M1 PPQ Navy w/ Threaded Barrel.
Aaron Blom its a first edition version
As is mine, its got the paddles
hmm. I got the nonthreaded version of the ppq as well and no golden letters. I think its only the first 1000 or something like that where they colored the writings. honestly it does only matter if you dont want to shoot it often and never use it holstered. PPQ for me is hands down the best Semi I've ever tried/and owned. I love it. No failures. Just works. And the slickest trigger.
+leftcoaster67 Agreed! It is a very high quality gun. I've never had a single problem with it.
Wonderful weapon. In my time in the USMC, DoD and as a Deputy Sheriff this is the best pistol I have been privileged to use and shoot. Thank you Hickok45 for giving this weapon more publicity.
C'mon Hickok45, you are practically gushing over this gun.
Which means I need one.

hows the recoil on it? i know for a 9 there isnt much but there always is some, can you compare it to another gun?
HATINTHEKAT I switched out my guide rod for an all steel guide rod from BT Guide Rods. Adds about 2oz. Takes a little off the flip.
I've had the .40 PPQ for six months now and agree 100% with everything in your post.
Glock for me was the be all end all of handguns. My wife bought me a Walther PPQ .40 and I have to say its one of the best pistols I have ever owned. I don't think I want to carry anything else. Thank you Gaston Glock I think I will be using Walther from now on.
150 rounds, no failures. As Hickok says sweet trigger. And he's right it's hard to miss with it. I love it! Thanks Hick! I love my PPQ Navy 9mm!
I just went to my local range and fired 50 rounds through a PPQ. I could not believe how crisp the trigger is. No recoil. Excellent sight radius, and incredible sights. I might just have to get one now.

torreyintahoe I don’t own a ppq, yet, but I’ve heard a proper grip also “fixes” the mag drop concern.

Have a 4" PPQ and just got my hands on a 5" PPQ. Love them both!!
Your original PPQ video helped to sell me on the PPQ I now own one and Love it. Keep it up Hickok45!

I just bought my Walther PPQ M2 40SW because of this video
tixok me too just bought one
2 years late, but also just bought a .40 PPQ M2.
Same, bought the. 40 because i didn't have any guns in that caliber. My justification. Ha
My wife and I each own a PPQ, I have a M1 (40) and my wife has the M2(22). Just love them. Great shooting and documentary.
This guy is an awsome shooter. The ground he's standing on is not level and he's still can't miss, amazing!
Just bought one today. Both of these videos sold me! Well, and it fits my hand really nicely.

Just bought a PPQ, can't wait to take it to the range.
i have to admit you sold me on the gun and i am glad you did
Nice second video follow up on the PPQ.
Thanks for your review Hickok! I just bought my first walther ppq m2 9mm. Can’t wait to shoot it!
My wife just bought a PPQ and she is in love with it. Great firearm
Love that gun... Picked one up after your first video n I love it... Thanks hickok.
+Lynn Terrence If I had that range in my backyard I would become addicted as well. LOL.
Thanks Hickok45! Based on this review I picked up a PPQ three weeks ago. I LOVE it. Hard to not keep shooting... feel like I need to buy a semi load of 9mm rounds!
Love your vids man!! So informative and entertaining. That's what it's all about!
Thanks for all your reviews. You are a great shot! Appreciate all the information!
I think that James Bond should now carry the PPQ instead of the PPK.
JohnnyUtah71 They actually upgraded him to it in the late 90s
pierce brosnan did (not in goldeneye). but they went back with craig because they sort of reset the timeline (but in modern times)
oakforestboys no that was the p99 not the ppq the ppq wasn't even out yet lol
Bond surely needed to have his tuxedo retailored for the PPQ.
1000 rounds thru my PPQ M1 and I love this gun. Never a misfire, always on target, and trigger worth every dollar I paid.
Love the PPQ threaded barrel , better than my glock 17
I remember 007 getting his Walther all the way back in Dr. No. For many of our younger viewers, that is going back to 1960's and Sean Connery; so this is actually a long standing 007 endorsement.
I ordered one, after seeing this vid, done deal (another great review from Hickok45. Here in Canada we only can get the Tactical/Navy version with the threaded barrel.
How has this gun been working out for you? I want the Navy version for the threaded barrel to shoot suppressed.
Would LOVE to see a FNS/PPQ/VP9/G19 shoot-out!! ;)
Agreed!
The PPQ to me feels like one of the most ergonomic guns ever made.
The PPQ is the best!
Hickok45 you going to do a review on thr walther ppq m2?
Joseph Hammett I bought one myself and liked it so much that I bought the same gun in 22LR, and I do some steel chalenge with both of them, and many people come to ask me what kind of gun is that! both shoots very well!
Great video, very informative and definitely worth the watch! First thoughts were that pistols are only good at close range, but you've just proved that wrong!! Nice shooting, keep up the good work, if that's what you call it! I call it good fun!
I'm a left hand shooter and the release button is on the left with no issues using index finger on my ppq m2 . So for you right handed people change is good with practice.
The "Compound"--what a sweet setup.
It is nice to see you excited about a firearm again to that degree
Man you went through those targets quick! This just might have to be my first pistol.
I just picked up my PPQ M2 today. I am going to get a yellow china pencil, the colored in Walther logo looks so good!
I bought a PPQ because of Hickok45"s first vid. Fine pistol indeed.
wow these 2 videos have totally "sold" me I'm going out and picking one up today!
Please review the Springfield armory XDs 45 compact when there out. Thanks for the great videos Hickok45
Hey Hickok I never request a vid but could you compare the Vp9 vs PPQ ?
John Ward Nutnfancy did.
Just picked one up. Can't wait to try it out.
David F,thanx for clarifying if the gun he was shooting was the M1 or M2,you answered my previous question.
hey Hickok45 !!!! Do a 5inch version of the PPQ or the Q5 !!!!
I was just comparing the acoustics between the PPQ and the Sig P226 in your videos, and all I noticed was that between winter and summer the echo difference on your range is pretty noticeable!
Words no criminal would want to hear "Hickok45 here." :)
lol im not even into pistols but i still watch this, so addictive. i bet most of the ppl here open their subboxes everyday just to see if hickok post anything :-)
I'm convinced! Thanks for the PPQ videos. I'm in the market for one of these in .40.
I picked up my first edition yesterday. I am taking it to my range Saturday for its first rounds...i am looking forward to it.
Glock fan boy here... The trigger on this ppq m2...is just sick...literally SICK!
