bare feet and, she tells me, has a great fondness for neat scotch. ...
“The world of classical music is a very hard world and the people who
survive are just a few. One minute you are very popular, four years
later no one has heard of you. It could all be over tomorrow. That’s
what I want to avoid. I want to be around in 20 or 30 years, doing what I
love, I don’t want to be a shooting star.” ...
With her elfin features, porcelain skin and jet black hair, she is
breathtakingly beautiful, and not averse to posing for photo-shoots
highlighting that beauty. Does she feel under pressure as a female
artist to exploit her sex appeal? ...
“I know where my limits are,” she says crisply. “If I do a photo-shoot I

      do.” ...
She believes that the classical music world is far more egalitarian than
      it once was. ...
Are her love of whisky (she favours Talisker, Laphroaig and Lagavulin ),
her habit of warming up her hands before a concert by solving the
Rubik’s cube (she can complete it within a minute), and her trademark

rich educated people,” she says. “It’s not. You don’t have to be
educated to enjoy classical music, you get educated by listening to it.”

If you look at the historical context, there was eating and talking etc. while the orchestra was playing. If the audience clapped hard the parts they clapped at were repeated and so on. I don't know why classical music is so stiff nowadays. It scares people away and that is kind of sad.

While a more precise term is also used to refer to the period from 1750 to 1820 (the Classical period), this article is about the broad span of time from before the 6th century AD to the present day, which includes the Classical period and various other periods.[1] The central norms of this tradition became codified between 1550 and 1900, which is known as the common-practice period.

European art music is largely distinguished from many other non-European classical and some popular musical forms by its system of staff notation, in use since about the 11th century.[2][3] Catholic monks developed the first forms of modern European musical notation in order to standardize liturgy throughout the worldwide Church. Western staff notation is used by composers to indicate to the performer the pitches and durations for a piece of music.[2] In contrast to most popular styles that adopted the song (strophic) form or a derivation of this form, classical music has been noted for its development of highly sophisticated forms of instrumental music such as the symphony, concerto, fugue, sonata, and mixed vocal and instrumental styles such as opera, cantata, and mass.[4] Alongside traditional musical attributes, Classical music is conscientious about drawing from and re-purposing its formal and social tradition with forms such as the Mass evolving and communicating through over a thousand years.[5]
The term "classical music" did not appear until the early 19th century, in an attempt to distinctly canonize the period from Johann Sebastian Bach to Ludwig van Beethoven as a golden age.[6] The earliest reference to "classical music" recorded by the Oxford English Dictionary is from about 1829.[1][7]"

The discussion about decorum in classical music performances is really good. I hope there will be a more collective discussion about this between musicians/artists. Times are changing and more and more young people or non-classical music heads are getting attracted to classical music and I think these things are also important to know. Thank you Sara and Ray!

@Karl Peter &Co Dear Karl Peter Alice, ... I really have a direct relationship with classical music. The very word "classical music" carries a huge meaning. Classical music is the result of the development of human society. This is a diamond that our civilization will always be proud of. You do not need to vulgarize this diamond with bare feet (Alise Sara Ott), a demonstration of her breast (Khatia Buniatishvili) or a half-naked body (Yuja Wang). Leave classical music alone! Find yourself another entertainment that matches the size of your brain. This will be your biggest contribution to human life!

Oh man, I found this May 2020, the pandemic had barely begun, and this was cute as hell. Now it's Feb 2021, and this is even cuter! I had the pleasure of listening to Ray Chen in a concert in Lisbon, Portugal, at Gulbenkian Auditorium with Ray Chen and the Gulbenkian Orchestra. Actually, a few days before, he had been stuck in Oporto Airport for some reason and busted out his violin and played some music to pass the time and make people more comfortable. Such an awesome story. We need more of this in our lives. Please Ray, make another stream with Alice, she is wonderful, you both are. Kind regards and well done and keep at it! Love your music and your hard work!

Firstly it was my first time watching both Alice and Ray in an interview and honestly no idea where the two hours flew lol. Secondly even though you both apparently know each other rather than a first time interview, Alice's positive nature is so amazing and If I was anything in her capacity to play (and not that I do) it's easy to be a diva which she chose not to and completely overlooked the total technical difficulties. I think the goofiness from Ray added to the relaxed environment as well even though a master in his own class. I know I will be watching this interview a couple of times 👍. Thirdly to all who play so beautifully thank you for what you do for us who love to hear 🙂 Classical music is so soothing especially in this crazy world we live in.

      From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"A clown is a comic performer who employs slapstick or similar types of physical comedy, often in a mime style."
      From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Classical music is art music produced or rooted in the traditions of Western culture, including both liturgical (religious) and secular music.
      Contents
      1 Overview
      2 .....
      3......
      Overview

This is hard for me because I've loved classical music for a long time but also anime for a long time. I can totally imagine in my head an anime with both Alice and Ray together playing different pieces and discussing different things about music. In fact this childish image is not unlike the anime "Nodame Cantabile". Alice could SO EASILY be transferred to the cute anime stereotype (lol) but underneath so amazingly talented (like she is). Also Ray, with his asian looks but really australian way could be a n interesting twist on the anime stereotype. (Btw running a stream with a video all and also video files playing is though work, so Ray don't beat yourself up).
It's so fun to have both of them so approachable in the stream but also so exquisite when playing on their won on concertos, etc. Well done.

Wonderful discussion here. Thanks very much to the two of you.
Ray Chen, if you look down the comments you will see a character by the name of "Mario DiSarli" (one of his RUclips accounts). This misogynist specimen stalks Alice Sara Ott in the comments of almost every video of her on RUclips. He copy/pastes his comments, always derogatory and insulting to her and everyone else. It's upsetting. He detests the idea that a woman can be a virtuoso musician. His presence always ruins the comments for everyone.

Drink enough whiskey so that you can barefoot dance the dance of little swans from Tchaikovsky's ballet "Swan Lake"! Good luck! re: asians in music vs in sports:
As an east asian, ex-pianist/violinist/ballet/tap/jazz/lyrical dancer, in Canada. I've never met a dumb musician, or a dumb dancer, at the highest levels. if you have the brains for it, being slightly shorter of stature, or having smaller hands, as I do, has never stopped me from progressing in either dance or music. but a lot of the asians i find in music, tend to be more recently landed immigrant families, than those in dance. certainly less integrated. versus, dance and other organized sports are often more expensive than music. an instrument is a one-time cost, that you can sell off if things don't work out, and lessons are not usually more than a few hours a week. dance meanwhile, may seem cheap... but there's lots of consumables (shoes, tights, hair products, costumes, makeup) which tally up fast, competition fees aren't cheap, and its a significantly greater time commitment. i spent as much time at the dance studio as i did in school in my later years. practiced violin/piano very little, got by off sheer talent alone, until i couldn't and dropped them one by one. but though my first gen immigrant parents supported me in dance, because i loved tap more than the world, they always viewed music as the safer investment. "learn an instrument, and you can teach". and for girls especially, i think they see music as more classy than sports, and appearances matter sometimes, when you're a newcomer and a visible minority.
So when price of admission to music, is so much lower than price of admission to organized sports. and the chances of bodily harm [falsely in my opinion] so much lower in music, than organized sports. and asians around me at least, tending to be newer families to canada, i get why music has more asians than sports.
Despite that, as an athlete, and especially as a dancer, i may not be as fit as i used to be... but my mind remembers how to work out, how to be fit, how to be healthy. my body remembers everything it used to be able to do, even if it doesn't have the strength or flexibility to pull it all off anymore. and so physically, i know what it takes to get healthy, to stay healthy. people in covid are flipping out, that gyms are closed... when your body is all you need to stay in shape. and music offers all the same chronic injuries as physical sports, just in different places. so I do lament that sports are not given the same value, in society, as music.

      Classical music
      From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Classical music is art music produced or rooted in the traditions of Western culture, including both liturgical (religious) and secular music.

      Overview
European art music is largely distinguished from many other non-European classical and some popular musical forms by its system of staff notation, in use since about the 11th century.[2][3] Catholic monks developed the first forms of modern European musical notation in order to standardize liturgy throughout the worldwide Church. Western staff notation is used by composers to indicate to the performer the pitches and durations for a piece of music.[2] In contrast to most popular styles that adopted the song (strophic) form or a derivation of this form, classical music has been noted for its development of highly sophisticated forms of instrumental music such as the symphony, concerto, fugue, sonata, and mixed vocal and instrumental styles such as opera, cantata, and mass.[4] Alongside traditional musical attributes, Classical music is conscientious about drawing from and re-purposing its formal and social tradition with forms such as the Mass evolving and communicating through over a thousand years.[5]
The term "classical music" did not appear until the early 19th century, in an attempt to distinctly canonize the period from Johann Sebastian Bach to Ludwig van Beethoven as a golden age.[6] The earliest reference to "classical music" recorded by the Oxford English Dictionary is from about 1829.[1][7]
