Have been to those 2 evenings in Munich. When she gave the second recital, like she said, it was a very kind, warm, emotional atmosphere in the hall and there was a very strong connection between the artist and the audience. When I just saw the scene in the video tears came to my eyes. Grateful I have been able to be part of this special night.

I was never so fortunate as to watch Alice live on stage. But in my life as a child I was acquainted with Classical Music and then as a teen I was lucky to watch some concerts and I was most definitely acquainted with Japanese anime which of course I found was the coolest thing EVER. Years later, the classical music love I have still lives on, greater than before, Alice's performances, which I've only experienced on RUclips, shine on, and I realize how fantastic Alice is, not withstanding anything that has occurred. I think this message is something special that everyone can try to incorporate in their lives. I, for one, feel extremely lucky to love classical music and to be born in '84 which means in 2021 there is RUclips where I can experience so many of Alice's performances :)
I will say, this is an extraordinary artist and musician, but moreover, and incredibly inspirational human being. When we hear her play we get emotional and hearing her points of view and about her struggles only intensifies our respect for her playing, but as a model for humanity.
You are EXTREMELY COURAGEOUS!! And I think nationality is a matter of complete indifference. I cried when I saw the audience stand up when you entered the stage! I'm certain that you will continue the good fight, in every respect - and wish you every success!!
Ms Ott, keep on being our barefoot contessa. your 3rd Beethoven YT video with the French Radio Symphony is the most fun I've had in classical music in, well, forever. I like your worldview also. Please keep on giving this joy you show to all of us.

Thank you Alice for a very touching talk. If You don't know it, see the film "Duet for One" about a violinist getting MS. Life is flowing and changing - yes - like water. So whatsoever: "This too will change". A big hug from me.
I explored Alice Sara Ott a few days ago. If it's true what was told about her entire life( wikipedia), I wish her the very best . It's always a tragedy if gifted people turn sick from a horrible disease. Take good care, dear Mrs. Ott!
I'm late to the game here but if it helps, keep in mind that despite going deaf along the way, Beethoven's message throughout his symphonies was that joy wins out over fate in the end. It is what makes the arts so subversive to those in power. Freedom is founded on the determination of joyful people to be free. Today, the arts are under assault to the point of being targeted for elimination by angry ignorant people full of hate. Beethoven was deaf for half of his most productive years yet his message is still resonating today... for those who care. That is why what you do is so important. To your point on the current state of classical music, I believe the stodginess of those who seem to believe that they are the final arbiters of what constitutes "proper" classical music is finally beginning to breakdown its fear of change. Limiting access to this music blunts its liberating message of joy. Even the greatest works can be re-expressed by gifted artists who can milk them of even deeper meaning. That is why I love listening to your piano recordings. Who is to say that the great composers wouldn't have found a better way to express themselves had they had access to the great instruments and the many great musicians available today? Looking forward to your next album!
What a woman and what a world it would be if all artists were as perceptive, intelligent and thoughtful. It's all about the art - not the publicity. It was SOO good to hear that her concern was for the listeners and their tastes. I can sympathize since my carpal tunnel operation went awry and it took 6 years to get back 90%. (Oddly, Brahms is one of the easier composers for this situation.) We can only hope that a genetic/treatment is found soon for this amazing artist. There are several recordings of the Preludes but two modern ones are Trivinov and Wang. He treats each as a jewel with incredible artistry and she treats each as part of one collection.
Fantastic interview. Very open, modest, honest and emotional. I loved it. Just two comments: 1) when I lived 10 years abroad, if have been asked in total maybe 1000 times where I came from. I always took it positively. They showed interest in me as a person. Great. The conversation started there. Nothing to loose, all to win. 2) Successful „career-people“ are often reluctant to talk about their illnesses. Maybe for two reasons: a) they are convinced that they will soon be fine again and b) there is a (huge) risk that they would loose their job, reputation, status, etc. But there are many people out there who love to talk about their diseases and they complain and seem to say: „look at me, I am such a poor person. Please have pity with me.“ In both comments it is up to us how to „play“ it.
@Mari Miklos The video has been an interview, so I commented on the content of the interview. If you want me to comment on Alice playing the piano, I can do that as well. Also my comment on Alice playing the piano would be multidimensional. I.e. I would compare her play to other pianists, to other ways of pronouncing and interpreting the music, etc. But as you wrote, sometimes we just sit, listen and think/feel/say one word: "Wonderful"
Germany has the greatest big machine of the best kind of pianists in all the World. Lang Lang, Scheps, Alice, and many others. All of that means my biggest dream is play a Hamburg Steinway D Grand Piano. I'll buy it in the future, wait that!
When I graduated from my master's studies back in 2017, we were all given a copy of David Forster Wallace's "Here is Water" (or as Alice wrote it, "This is water"), and our commencement speaker also referred to the book in his "final lecture" (he was a retiring professor in our faculty). Personally the book/essay is also a life's lesson for me, to be aware of the world around us, and to appreciate what life has in store for us - the good and the bad.

@@carmenaballi I like Khatia Buniatishvili and Yuja Wang very much as well, so I ask you not to scold them on my channel. Each is a differently fantastic musician and personality and a lot of us love all three of them, but I could go on with Martha Argerich or Lang Lang and list other artists with other instruments as well. One of the best thing is about in art that everyone can listen to who or what they love! This is a wonderful liberty!

Perhaps the attitude can be that each performance might be the last and it can be the best. So that being fully in the moment makes each performance is memorable.

Thank you for this. I was diagnosed with MS in 2017 and have many of the same experiences.
Take care of yourself! With the help of good doctors, you can live whole life with this!
@@Mavacak 100%!
Es una mujer maravillosa. Profesional, sensible. Bendiciones
Fantastic interview. Very open, modest, honest and emotional. I loved it.
Just two comments:
1) when I lived 10 years abroad, if have been asked in total maybe 1000 times where I came from.
Please have pity with me.“
In both comments it is up to us how to „play“ it.
I don't quite understand what you want to say. I think Alice just wants to make us happy with her wonderful play.
Wonderful human, good bless her. Hope she recovers.
Thanks for this comment dear awpdog! This is really nice! 👍🏻
Be strong enough,, so proud of you 👏🏻
Alice Sara: the Queen.
It's so heartbreaking. I love her music. Life can be so unfair.
Merci.
God loves you Sara! Sun Myung Moon = Second Coming.
Dear Alice, feel so sorry to hear about MS, but I wish, believe and pray for you to get control over it. The research and achievements of modern science are very promising and I am sure you have access to it. I will dare to compare you with Satie's Gnosienne. You are that music!!! Free of borders, logic, prediction, but endlessly divine...like you! From Australia with best best wishes and prayers!
She is PERFECT
beautiful!!!
She didn't grow up in Japan, but she speaks perfect Japanese.
Preparedness for my life. I feel it. Let's do our best to overcome it.
Maestra superior
God be with you .
The same disease that destroyed my favorite cellist Jacqueline du Pré. Hope Alice will recover from the disease 🙏🙏
I love her too and I still listen a lot to this day. I hope medicine is much more advanced than it was then!
Perhaps the attitude can be that each performance might be the last and it can be the best. So that being fully in the moment makes each performance is memorable.
A lot of Ki leaves the body through the hands and feet all that contact with the piano that you can't carry off like a hot pillow, I always keep my feet warm and knee's I have a blanket over my legs even in the summer when I am playing my guitar or sitting for a long time
God is with you and you'll be guided to your best.
