"They was standing there, Britishly!"

In mass dictionary: doing nothing- throwing rocks at the British for being British.
Sounds legit.
So... Irish?
Virginias’ bloopers are him contemplating on agreeing with Mass
“Mass.”
“wE WAS MINDING OUR BUSINESS!”
BS!
I WAAAAAS-uh
Throwing rocks & oyster shells at Redcoats *IS* minding your own business in Boston. Don't know why they got so worked up over it though. It sounds like just an average Monday afternoon in Boston. They had been there long enough so they should have gotten used to it by then if you ask me.
You know, the funny thing about being taught History is that it always starts out with the simple version. When you first learn of the Boston Massacre, it's this event where British soldiers shot a bunch of protesting Americans. An awful event of British tyranny! Then, when you get older, you start learning the nuances and details. A crowd of "protestors" were chucking rocks and oyster shells at a group of a few British dudes just standing outside a warehouse. Something goes wrong, they shoot a volley, and kill like 5 people. Then it's used as propaganda to incite revolution against England. Meanwhile Samuel Adams volunteers to defend the soldiers at their trial and actually gets them found innocent. THAT Sam Adams, yes. So... yeah. It really makes you start rethinking exactly what they're teaching you in school.
John Adams (Sam’s cousin) defended the soldiers. Got them acquitted too
@@montgomerytaylor5296 Oops, yep. You're right. John Adams.
You mean, American children are taught 'Da Truf' before radical, communist reverse racists begin indoctrinating them with 'Critical Race Theory.'
@@Ujames1978Rises first of reverse racism is not a thing. Secondly the government only teaches you what the government wants you to know.
@@maineventmafia1633 I was being sarcastic! xD
virginia in the bloopers is giving me life-
Can't wait for "Table History: How Texas came to be" or along those lines because the story changes depending who you're asking
as I recall Mexico wanted to settle the region known as Tejas, so they set up a bunch of incentives for people to immigrate from the U.S. So you had your mix of farmers looking for a new life, adventure seekers, and already wealthy men looking to become wealthier. All of 'em former Americans. Eventually they got in up in their heads that Texas should Either be its own country, or a U.S. State, but either way it shouldn't be part of Mexico any more. Naturally the Mexican Dictator El President Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, was very unhappy about this and mustered the Mexican army to fight these American/Mexicans. There was this big symbolic fight at the Alamo where a bunch of famous people died, and became martyrs for the cause of Freedom or lower taxes on the wealthy, or keeping slavery or something. I think that might have been part of it. Mexico wanted or had outlawed slavery maybe? Anyway, "Remember the Alamo became a Rallying cry. I think the U.S. came in and helped... Although that might have only been in the following war. I haven't even looked at the Texas Revolution since I was in Middleschool, maybe freshman in high school? All I really remember is memorizing Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna by saying it in this sing-song voice. (Texan by the way)
@@Strawberry92fs you pretty much got it and one of the key points was about slavery. But I have also heard versions that Tejas separation had nothing to do with slavery but was about the dictatorship of Santa Ana.
Than there is also the fiasco about the border of tamaulupas and Tejas which was the nueces river and not the Rio Grande/Rio Bravo
The founding of the Republic of Texas: The ONLY time in history where Illegal Immigration was actually a genuine threat to (the) national security (of Mexico)...
...actually, European colonization and settlement of the Americas, Africa, and Oceania were also technically acts of illegal immigration in a lot of cases, so...hmmm...the original satirical structure is breaking apart on me...
@@sklaWlivE unironically the thing that what conservatives are afraid of, whether is that "brown people" will do an imperialism or a colonialism on us, like the the European Powers and the U.S. did to "brown people". Because they justify Imperialism and Colonialism by insisting it's the natural state of power dynamics.
@@GoyoLives a reminder that the Texas Secession Papers list Slavery as their primary reason for joining the Confederacy. Which is a nice little tidbit when I,a texan, argue u.s. civil war with other texans. "Doesn't matter if the whole Civil War was over 'states rights' Says right here in plain English that the reason TEXAS joined was specifically to uphold the practice of slavery.

Keep these history videos coming! I can’t wait to show my 8th gr US history students. 😁 (I’ve shown some of your table videos last year and they were always a hit!)
as a MA resident born and raised i can confidently say... i am proud
You know every history teacher is writing these videos into their plans for this fall, right? (low key: THANK YOU!)
Glad you put bloopers in! I've been wandering how hard it's been for you while switching between so many groups
"they were just standing there...britishly!"
I love how flinty you’ve chosen to portray my MA ancestors. It’s not entirely accurate, but we do swear a lot! Isn’t it strange that MA has some of the toughest gun laws in the country now (and correspondingly low gun fatalities)? It’s almost as if we know how badly things can go if everyone gets trigger-happy . . . 🤔
That's an interesting correlation. I hadn't ever heard about gun control laws that actually had the appearance of working. All I've heard about are the strictest city and state gun control laws affecting places like Los Angeles, Detroit, Chicago, and DC, resulting in the worst crime rates in the country. I've heard of a few more cities with a similar problem, but never one where it seems to work. What do you suppose that MA is doing right that the others are failing at? What's the difference between them? I genuinely want to know what you think.
@@carsonrush4152 one city banning guns when the entire surrounding state has little to no gun laws kinda makes the city rules feel more like a suggestion. I say we take a page out of the Black Panthers book and arm minorities to reduce hate crimes.
@@carsonrush4152 MA solution is to make sure no one can even afford to purchase a weapon to begin with, then make those laws to make it seem like they actually work.
I lived there, an yeah. Taxachusetts is the nickname for a reason.
@@carsonrush4152 I’m certainly no expert, but there are some basic rules in place that seem to curb violence here. Several laws signed by Governors Cellucci, Romney, and Patrick, two republicans, one democrat. Additionally, there is a cultural element. First, in order to buy a gun and certain types of ammo, you have to go to your local police to apply for a license. The process is not simple or instantaneous. Secondly, all first-time license owners must either complete a gun safety or basic hunting course. That’s just the beginning. Certain types of weapons are banned, licenses have to be renewed, there are rules about safety features, dealers have to be licensed, and background checks include a lot of information, such as domestic violence reports. If you want to get into specific laws, you’ll have to just look for yourself and determine what you think about them. I also think that many MA residents feel that the second amendment right applies to the “well-regulated militia” which would be our national guard. So, people join the Guard here if they want to play with guns, and that training and service has a way of encouraging healthy attitudes and discouraging nonsense. I know people with guns and some military folks, and their respect for weapons is quite serious, and I respect them for that. Guns are not toys. I feel quite safe here, and I feel that if I really wanted to get a gun, I would be able to in the most responsible way. No one should be able to “hurry up and get a gun.” That sounds like someone planning to hurt someone else.

He has covered the Toledo War a week or two ago. That made me happy.
I kinda want to see him do an Episode on the Articles of Confederation, true story while they were Drafting it Maryland dug their heels in on one Issue and wouldn't sign it until it went their way and as a response Virginia was like "We need to do this as Quickly as possible so if Maryland wants to be so Stubborn we'll create the United States without them." And then guess what during the Revolution Maryland went into a panic and started asking other states to help and they were all like "You aren't part of the US yet we don't have to help you, sign the Articles of Confederation and We'll help out" (France was like this to) so then finally Maryland signed the thing.
