RIP Ralph. It’s a shame he was taken by QAnon
Ralph was s-x trafficked.
Not again....
i love how a variation of this always ends up being top comment
@@bmgl3855 I’m the guy who keeps commenting it lmao
😢
Alex is such a true American patriot for forcing Adum to watch Sound of Freedom.
they tried to keep adam from watching the movie but luckily Alex stood up against the establishment and got Adam to watch it... a true hero
Alex is the truest American!

Jim Caviezel insists no one wants to hire him in Hollywood because he played Jesus
Like sure bro no one wants to hire Willem Dafoe, Christian Bale, Joaquin Phoenix and John Turturro
none of those have the loaded history of passion of the christ, caviezel didn’t make that up it’s something gibson warned him before passion of the christ even came out. not really comparable to any of those, especially john turturro lol. last temptation is close but even there, at least it’s not based on a play that hitler gave a glowing review, specifically for its antisemitism.
@@obscure.referenceWhen a dude warns him about something, he ignores that warning, and then he complains about the consequences, I think everyone is entitled to treat him like the idiot he is
@@NikoJr. he doesnt complain he literally presents it as a holy sacrifice that he made, i only brought that up because it isn’t him being delusional or entirely self serious, it’s something that was anticipated and fed to him.

Because he is outspoken Christian. Get to it pal.
My screening of Past Lives stopped halfway through for 5 minutes. They’re trying to silence Korean voices!
It was planned. It's a break to serve a dog.
The lights were on at the start of my Saw X screening. They don't want you to know about the brain cancer treatment scam industrial complex.
Fun fact, my uncle was heavily involved in God's not Dead and the band that it promoted, the lead singer is a coke fiend and the drummer takes a shit ton of steroids. The lead singer also gets bullied by all the other band members for not being married and they're trying to force him to marry so rumors of him being gay stop.
We talking about Newsboys? Lol. That all sounds like it should be a comedy movie that’s essentially This Is Spinal Tap but with a Christian pop/rock band.
@@carter_lovejoy Yeah, the Newsboys, I know several people in the band and it sounds like a circus. They're all pretty nice people tho.
That “pay it forward” ticket thing was so fucking scummy.
No different than how Conservatives and groups they’re a part of buy a ton of copies of a Conservative author’s book just to get it to #1 on the New York Times Bestsellers list.
I wish I could make someone laugh the way Adum can make Alex laugh in the first 20 seconds of the podcast
The reason Spotlight didn’t get this reaction is because the groomers were Catholic.
And they actually existed.
it’s called marketing
Conservatives likely hated it nonetheless.
He "invited women to act as his “wife” on undercover overseas missions ostensibly aimed at rescuing victims of sex trafficking. He would then allegedly coerce those women into sharing a bed or showering together, claiming that it was necessary to fool traffickers. "

Also the operations have been criticized by actual anti-trafficking organizations because they are using inexperienced donors and celebrities as undercover agents, don't do surveillance or identification of targets, and kidnapped consensual adult sex workers.
The entire movie is also just spreading misinformations because young victims are almost always trafficked within a country by people they know and trust and they often don't even know that they're victims in the first place. The stereotypes in the movie have led to jurors not believing actual victims.
The sound of freedom, the smell of strawmen, the taste of bullshit.
The mainstream media came out and said the movie was all lies and right-wing nonsense. So that settles that then doesn't it. The media wouldn't have done that if it wasn't true 😗

@@Roger_Waters_Broken_Balls even better!
Jim Caviezel is legit nuts. The QAnon Anonymous podcast did an episode called "Enter the Cavortex" about his lunacy a couple years ago. The stories about him are hysterically funny and horrifying at the same time.
But... but he's Jesus!
He had a good career for a while. Worked with terrence malick, Mel gibson, Tony scott. Seems he is way out of Hollywood now
QAA's done a number of episodes on Operation Underground Railroad and its disgraced founder, Tim Ballard (which is who Tim Caviezel plays in SoF). Ballard has been accused of sexual assault by multiple women he worked with.
@@nms7872 I liked him in Person of Interest
@@Entertainment- Then don't listen to the QAA episode, because the stories of his behavior on that show might ruin it for you.
Who knew child sex trafficing was a real thing? Good thing Sound of Freedom introduced the concept to my thick monkey brain.
Hey I talked to adults, like 50 year old adults who said they had no idea what child sex trafficking was even happening or how it happened, I was shocked because my parents told me as a child about this but apparently people didn't know
@@gasbuster the boomer and gen x conservative brain has a huge "if it didn't happen to me or a close one it doesn't concern me" mentality problem, some of them actually are stupid enough to need everything told directly and explicitly to their face.
I refuse to believe a bunch of grown adults didn’t know Child Trafficking was a thing - until their “Anti Disney” movie dropped. I saw a comment section full of “anti woke” people panicking saying “We need to arm ourselves and protect what’s ours!!!” Like OMFG what is with these people
@@firstlast9846 they're pretty much a cult
Do you also roll your eyes at slavery movies?
One of the most interesting things about Sound of Freedom is that one of the producers, Eduardo Verastegui, tried to run for president here in Mexico using this movie for his campaign. Instead of seeing that advertising at the credits, here we watched Eduardo announce his presidential campaign at the end of the film as a independent candidate; well i didn't watch really. I had push my mom out of the theater (her idea to watch the film), because i really didn't want to see his propangada. The funny part is that he couldn't get enough signatures to run for the presidency so... yea... it worked out well, didn't it?
It's absolutely baffling to me that so many people were saying Sound of Freedom was a wake up call to child trafficking. Like you didn't know this has been a thing for a long time and you're acting like this movie is the only movie that talks about the subject? Wtf?
Also, where is the money for ticket sales going towards? They say this will help stop child trafficking if you share the movie. Where is the money going to go to stop child trafficking?
It’s basically got a fan base of people who ONLY watch Blockbusters and haven’t realised - television shows, movies, television movies have covered the subject much better for the past 30-40 years.. and the only reason they watched it is so they can have a pop at Disney. It’s basically people having an awakening from being ignorant - but doing nothing about it.
Any film recommendations that touch this subject?
The end credits with the lead actor advocating for this film to be shared around to spread the message rather than recommening real life child support numbers and authorities to combat human trafficking is the most tone deaf shit I've seen in a movie for a LOOOONNGGGG ass time
@@firstlast9846 it's also that they live in an intentional media bubble of right wing/conservative views and content (blockbuster or not), so while I believe the whole narrative around this film is just more culture war nonsense it wouldn't shock me at all to find out that an extremely sheltered religious person had never heard how serious and prevalent an issue trafficking is.
@@coffeedudeOne was mentioned in this podcast: Spotlight from 2015.
I think it won an Oscar or two, but I personally haven't seen it, so who knows if it's good or not.
It isn’t the ending so to speak but Better Call Saul’s last in-colour episode has maybe my favourite cut-to-black editing choice, it perfectly puts the viewer in Jimmy’s mindset without saying a word. Surprised Alex didn't mention it.
probably slipped his mind because they were talking about movies. good shout tho
I hope you all give Scarface a chance in a future episode! I put it off like you two did forever for the same reasons but when I saw it there was so much about it I didn’t know was going to be amazing - the direction captures South Florida aesthetic better visually than any other (the sunset to dusk scenes holy shit)(okay Waves captured South Florida amazing visually as well); AND the Giorgio Moroder score is incredible. The plot is very engaging as well. I honestly like it more than Blow-Out.
DePalma is the only director my mom ever showed me and while I haven’t seen all of his stuff, others I recommend are Body Double. Dressed to Kill is a meme. Snakeyes has an incredible oner so worth it and also some more amazing cinematography I think Adum will love in the latter half though the story is really stupid. Nic Cage is also pretty funny in it. Aside from Scarface Snakeyes would be the other movie I want to see em cover the most.
Blow Out is more of a blend of ideas Blow Up + The Conversation/ De Palma's usual Hitchcockian style than it is straight up inspired by Blow Up.
Congrats. You're gonna be one of the few talking about Blow Out than getting worked up over Sound Of Freedom. I'd like to say it and The Conversation also used political intrigue to help their stories as opposed to Blow Up being more....illusionary.
Scarface has aged so weird. It’s dated at parts but you instantly forgive it because it’s so fun and Al Pacino fucking kills it. Talk about an Oscar snub. You believe that Tony Montana is just some Cuban they grabbed off the streets of Havana to play a role.
pachino’s biggest snub is dick tracy
Where's it dated? I'm curious. Watched it last year held up well to me
@@zeebooboo9663 Some of the montage stuff is really 80’s. Push It To The Limit
At least Scarface in-universe establishes that it takes place in the early '80s
I wish Ralph could still be with the crew. Still, Adam and Alex are still managing to keep us entertained. We still love them :)
In regards to the "cut to black ending" question, First Reformed is my personal favorite. I remember Adums review where he said "why did they have that cut to black after a happy ending?" And it's like... BRO
I'm shocked they didn't mention Matrix: Reloaded as an example of a terrible one.
Okay, yeah. There needs to be a Scarface episode at some point if neither of them have ever seen the movie.
No Country for Old Men was the first cut to black I thought of
"I ain't no kiddie diddler!" - Jimbo Caweezle, "Screech of Liberty"
I love how both of you guys get the title wrong. It's a bad title. "The Sound of Freedom" just sounds better.
To add to Alex's point about comedians claiming to be silenced and getting paid millions to talk in a huge stadium. In Ricky Gervais' latest special, he literally complains about being silenced by the woke crowd and not being allowed to make jokes, and then goes on to brag about how much money he made from his last special, with the audience applauding him as if that's some kind of 'gotcha'. These people have zero self-awareness.
He never claimed to be silenced. Hes self aware that celebrity millionaires are the only people powerful enough to speak their mind without risk of losing everything. They still are attacked and ridiculed for it. They still take the damage to their reputation by sheep conformist who start to parrot this same tired talking point.
This is a stupid point. Go to your job and try and express politically incorrect opinions and see what happens. Then have someone express the opposite opinion and watch as NOTHING happens to them. That's the OBVIOUS point that people like you seem desperate to ignore for some reason.
The second I knew this was one giant scam, was when during the trailers at least at my theatre, they weren’t trailers for any other films from any other studios, it was specifically trailers to crappy films made by their own studio; there where like 5 trailers to movies I never realized where being released and now I understand why, it’s one giant scam to promote their own studio in my eyes.
Body double, phantom of the paradise, blow out, dressed to kill, casualties of war, Carlitos way, scarface, the untouchables and carrie all fucking rule! Sisters, the fury and raising cain are also pretty interesting
I say to myself “I’ve never thought about it that way” pretty often when I listen to you guys. There’s some really great takes in this episode!
Chapo Trap House does a great job contextualizing Sound of Freedom from a pathos / cultural perspective, in case you’re curious to learn more. Entertaining listen, too!
Thanks so much for this insightful and inspiring podcast, I'm going to share this with 3 friends & family and I recommend everyone does the same to spread the word and awareness!
Can't wait for the next episode, just pure gold that is going to be talked about!
Adum touched upon something interesting in terms of the "hard time recommending stuff to family members question", saying how people don't want an emotionally challenging film. That's a part of it, but they're not looking for something that's going to get you thinking, something that doesn't leave open endings, as well as being easily digestible to consume within an hour and a half.
There's a video by Accented Cinema that goes into this a lot better than I can, but he answers why Chinese people watch stuff like Fast X or Red Notice, with the culprit being the "996 work model". Because of this controversial model, a lot of people don't have free time/are constantly working or have overstressed minds that they want chewing gum for the eyes (Simple storytelling, lots of overstimulating action, and loud noises). The film has to do the heavy work to keep them awake, shying away from any daring moves in the slightest.
Because of this, studios see this and think mindless trash is what audiences want, even though greedy and exploitative capitalist practices have created the climate for this stuff to thrive.
What video is it?
The Accented Cinema one? It's called "Why is Fast & Furious so Popular in China"@@sweetdrdre96
@@sweetdrdre96 The Accented Cinema one? It's "Why is Fast & Furious so Popular in China"
Greedy and exploitative *capitalist* practices? How well were the Chinese doing under communism again? Oh yeah, they had no middle class with disposable income to spend at the movies at all...
Very cool that my drawing gets two episodes.
They got T-Ralph.
OMG I Am Sam is gonna be a hilarious double feature with Madame Web
Memento is another example of a great cut to black ending, and in a weird way is a perfect description of what Adam was talking about at 1:31:15 .
Ralph died on the way back to his home planet
There actually IS a Shyamalan Cut of The Last Airbender. Significant portions of footage were cut in order to convert it into 3D faster. There IS a longer version out there somewhere that MAY be slightly less awful.
Blowout is so good! I totally recommend more De Palma for future episodes
All those accidents that prevented people from seeing the film. Maybe god just didn’t want them to see it? 😉
The entire Sound of Freedom discussion is them trying to grasp Double-Think.
Adum is a fool for forgetting about the awesome cut to black ending for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 that everyone loved
I'm so happy to hear both you guys understand and appreciate the sopranos ending. It's crazy how many people still misunderstand it. It is complicated and I certainly needed it broken down to me, but the pieces are all there
Just rewatched Blowout . Excellent pick.
I'M SO GLAD YOU WATCHED BLOW OUT!! Such a hidden gem, even between De Palma's filmography. If you are going to watch more of him I highly recommend Phantom of the Paradise, that's also nuts and a very unique movie!
Carrie is also one of my all time fav movies, but that one is more like a fairy tale with how over the top and cheesy it is (but that's exactly why I love it)
Ps: THANK YOU ADUM FOR TALKING ABOUT THAT STUPID MINION AD!!
I saw SO MANY PEOPLE CONGRATULATING ILLUMINATION LIKE "Wow they're the best studio because they are against AI" ???? THEY ARE SAYING NOTHING, THERE IS NO MESSAGE ON THAT AD LIKE WTH IS HAPPENING HOW DO YOU GET TO THAT CONCLUSION??
1:42:53 i sort of relate to this question. My girlfriend and I pretty much have opposite tastes in media. However she's pretty respectful of my tastes and i am of hers even though we aren't afraid of saying either of the movies we respectively enjoy is bad.
I try to find common ground with her and we make time to watch things we like without prioritizing one over the other. And if i recommend something I'll do it based on her taste.
Overlap helps too. For example we both like Adam Sandler comedies and that was the perfect opportunity for me recommend Uncut Gems and Punch Drunk Love and she ended up enjoying both of those. Communication is key. Try not to get so heated about it.
Adum thinks it's crazy that Sound of freedom was playing in Canada? It was playing in RUSSIA 😂😂
so excited for the next episode. some funny movies lined up
If you give 2$ to your grocery store they will end world hunger and save every kid
51:42 Angel Studios is releasing “Cabrini” which the same director who did “Sound of Freedom” and now they’re a religious Christianity movie about an Italian Catholic woman just liberated the entire state. This Angel Studios was endorsed by Christian or Catholic makers.
I love Blow Out so freaking much! Every time I watch it I feel like I notice something new about it that makes me love it even more.
"The Sound of Trans", Adum i burst out laughing, I would genuinely watch that movie.
If one piece was formatted differently, would that change your view on it. If it was 6 big books, no pictures would you get why people love it so much. Right now, we are in one of the best story arcs in the series, and it's coming out on a weekly basis. It's not like comic books with a dozen different writers and artists over decades. One piece is written and illustrated by one guy and his editors.
Cool
I'm going to be honest, I have zero nostalgia for one piece, I read it all in 2022, there's a gigantic drop in quality after the time skip, the only arc that is on that level after it is Dressrossa. Oda seems completely uninterested in developing his main characters past the bare minimum that gets him to the status quo and half of his main cast are reduced to nothing more than set dressing.
I will catch up at some point but it seems like the series really peaked at Water 7 / Enies Lobby. I'm just seeking that high now
You haven't seen Scarface?
Can't believe you support drug dealing
Yeah, Alex needs to catch up on De Palma. Phantom of the Paradise, Carrie, and Carlito’s Way are masterpieces and he has tons of other classics.
We still need BrutalMoose on the podcast
Him or Man Carrying Thing
Sound of Freedom was mediocre. Not bad, not good, it just exists
it’s pretty bad
I bet Ralph has seen Scarface.
For another director's career best that bombed but is one of the coolest movies ever, I'd love for you guys to talk about Sorcerer!!!
1:50:00 that scene of the earth benders dancing to bend that lil rock will forever be burned into my brain lol
I was at Walmart the other day and saw a bunch of copies of the movie on the shelf and immediately laughed to myself about how people can believe this movie is being suppressed.
Milking kids for their screams is literally just Monsters Inc.
Not so sure about Monsters University but it couldve been for reprogramming
last guest was really good he should come on again
Not sure if it counts as "cut to black" but the ending to Enemy FUCKS.
The pay it forward model was so that other people would be able to see it. Call it scummy if you want, but if anything it got people talking about a really fucked up subject. They bever lied about what the money was going to and youre really grasping at straws. Also, the film never claimed to be all true, it literally said "based" on a true story. Also, i love Alex and Adum forcing themselves to say the filmmaking is awful because theyre scared of the backlash they'll get from the fanbase if they give it any credit.
What woke American universities did this Canadian and Brit go to to learn words like "media literacy"?

31:30 incredible impression. killed me.
@21:30 you sure that review wasn’t describing the Zone of Interest in terms of emotional experience. Cause I swear that review you just read sounds more like an accurate description to that film. You know the one movie with the end credits musical score that’s meant to emphasis the horrors of the events of that film showcase, and not the one where the end credits demands you to send them money more because you’re outraged?
Blow Out is in absolutely perfect film. De Palma's magnum opus
holy shit i had no idea y'all had ever heard of Blow Out, this is gonna be great!
Blow Out is hands down my favourite Brian De Palma movie and my second favourite John Travolta movie after Pulp Fiction.
1:30:00 not a cut to black but similar to the other ones they were talking about: I really love the ending to Birdman
My favourite abrupt ending (and one of my all-time favourite endings in general) is La Haines (1995).
I watched f*cking Oppenheimer with no air conditioning in the theater. And I live in hot ass Florida. So I guess that means that my town’s movie theater is antisemitic then. :(
Did the guy actually actually have lying down in a recliner munching on popcorn as a default when in the cinema?

Do theaters even have chairs where you can control position of the backrest? I've never encountered something like that.
@@eamk8872 of the theaters in my town are like that
@@eamk887 I have never seen that either...

Canada doesn’t get the Super Bowl commercials anymore.
Blowout is a great film. And with Scarface, I never watched it in full until 2020 due to the pop culture silliness, just just felt like I had seen it already. But I really liked it, much more denser and intense than I was expecting, and just great overall. An interesting De Palmer film to watch for you guys would be Dressed to Kill, and Body Double. I love Body Double, it's sleazy but a great Hitchcock-inspired film. And Dressed to Kill .... interesting. I get it has it's fans, but it's a bit problematic and goofy, to say the least!

He loves cringe. Why else would he be a wrestler?
those guys really conventiently forget matt geatz being under investigation voor human trafficking of minors, also as far as trafficking goes, for me it seems that that jack dorety guy is pimping young girls for only fans, somebody really should be investigating that.

If you guys think that the Critical Drinker is this politically biased, right-wing pandering weirdo, then why don’t you bring him on the podcast and get to understand his leanings on film and maybe constructively criticize him or come to some common ground on something, if you guys are as nuanced and free-thinking as you say? It would bring some life to this podcast, that’s for certain.
Adum already did a livestream where he watched critical drinkers take on the film and criticized it

The movie itself has nothing to do with QAnon but the fandom and marketing definitely is
That's actually wrong, the movie does have a lot to do with QAnon. It doesn't directly reference QAnon, but it includes a lot of things in it that reinforces and feeds into the QAnon beliefs and conspiracies. It's literally a QAnon propaganda movie.
Am I the only one who doesn't fully agree with Adum's take on the Skin short? I mean it's by no means subtle or perfectly handled, but I think it's a blunt message to get through to the type of people who think Sound of Freedom is a good movie or still deny racism is a thing (yes, they still exist). Not everyone can read into nuance, and again, I'm aware that if they already lean that strongly on their beliefs, they probably won't be swayed by something like Skin, but I don't know, I kind of liked how they handled that short. It wasn't as AWFUL as Adum keeps bringing up IMO.
My mum almost broke up with my dad before he was born because he liked ‘Trainspotting’.

Before: Ohh sardonicast is covering the sound of freedom. Maybe they’ll stick to talking about the movie instead of the buzz around it.
After: A lot of the movie review seemed to be about how other reviewers aren’t talking about the actual movie during their review. Aren’t you doing the same thing by talking about those reviewers😂?
I don’t care about the meta, Qanon, or Jimmy Jesus. I care about the filmmaking. Adum- it’s boring. Alex- piss poor filmmaking. You guys want to expand on that at all?
Saw the movie and thought it was okay. I thought it made sense for Jimmy Jesus’s character to look crazy based on the shit he was dealing with🤷♀️. Without the meta it just seemed like “Taken” but less entertaining. Just an okay movie.
