Awesome video! I have loved that song since I was a kid, and wished I could play it. Thanks so much for taking the time to post the video and taking the time to show how to do it for the everyday average drummer. Breaking it down in a step by step per fill approach and showing a beginner or basic drummer how to do it was appreciated. Thank you, I have wondered for years how to really play it and not fake it like I have when playing with the CD. Please post more!
Holy shiznit! Awesome. Used to play this with a band back in college (early 90's). Couldn't play it note-for-note, but still sounded o.k. Getting back into playing more intricate stuff, so this song is on my bucket list to learn. Thanks man.
Sounds great!! Haven't had the chance to play this on the drum yet, though that fill at 3:00 makes me questionning the double 12 roll (two measures of 6+6) RKKLRKK I've been seeing in a Rush/ book music sheet.
S.O.S! I'm having a very difficult time getting out of the last fill and back into the beat. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I've got the song and the fills up to that point, but the change back into the beat always throws me off.
Once you have played Tom Sawyer through time the end. It’s not that difficult at all. The 1/16th hi hat pattern is not physically hard. Good way to nail that is swing music or white not reggae. You do not need a double kick on the second fill of the solo. BTW
Great stuff Dave!!! You're such a great drummer!! With a heart of gold!
David Thiele aw thanks man! Miss you buddy!
Thank you! Very clear and concise, and I liked how you broke it all down.

You are the only one on youtube, to my knowledge, who got the fifth hit on the high tom (on the third part). Great!

Could bass drum fill be executed with single bass?
Awesome job! I am a single pedal player too. Are you sticking the triplet RLK or RKL? I really appreciate your breakdown on this lesson!
Thank you
I quit drumming 10 years ago for the guitar. Listening to Rush, I kinda regret that decision.
Make it look so easy
