What a monster. And he's not even trying. He just is. Absolute Wecklmania. This is just toooo good to pass. You got me man. SUB SUB SUB. Taught the lesson clearly. No mystery here.
This incredibly supportive, highly complimentary, thoughtful comment’s been sitting here *THREE YEARS* without a ❤️ from this guy … But, for an EMPTY $4 thanks from ONE year ago, he deigns to put a heart on it. That’s all *anyone* needs ta know about this cat’s “character.” 😖👎 🙄
Yes, you have god like chops but it sounds musical. It's not fills for the sake of fills. Bloody outstanding, Steve. Can't wait to get behind the kit, once I've got over Covid.
Does RUclips need another drum video? Yes! When they are yours! You are the only drummer on RUclips demonstrating licks and technique for the advanced drummer. I appreciate it immensely.
So amazing Steve! I played drums as a teen. I performed some shows in LA Sunset Blvd., got married and focused on the business and stopped playing for way too long. Many years later I joined a country Rock band that I'm current in. We have opened up for some known artists which has been great experience. Other than keeping great timing and some basic fills here and there, I've never have advanced to the next level as a drummer. What you posted and how you demonstrated it for me, is so inspiring and will be the only what I practice until get it down fluidly. Thanks a million for posted this triplet sticking!
Great lesson, thank you. You can hear Gadd had such an influence on guys like Colauita, Weckle.. and the rest of us mortals. Beautiful how drumming gets passed on through the years.
Beautiful example of some simple motifs that you've put together in a very musical way. Applications here are really endless from face melting combos to beautiful melodies with well tuned drums. Thanks man! Very inspiring
I wished I would have shown an example stringing together multiple group 1's which also sounds super cool (Bonham-ish of course). I showed multiple group 2's but not group 1's. You can hear what it sounds like at 0:07. The hands are split between the floor tom and snare but if you put them all over, it also sounds super cool.
Steve you have to be one of the most under rated drummer in the history, don't get me wrong you are still quite known but the kind of skills you possess you need to be up there with one of the best drummers of this generation.
Totally over thought this whole thing!!! I seen you do it at the start and I'm like no way...then you broke it down and I'm like "I can actually do this!" Just gotta keep it cool and calm then slowly speed it up as I become more comfortable with it all. This is insane!!! Thankyou!!
Thanks very much Steve. Valuable insights here. One of the most “striking” being how relaxed this approach can really be. The power comes along as well, but so much more fluid and creative. Keep up the great stuff! 🙏🏻
I've been watching you for a while Steve. You were always competent and better than I am, but it's been awesome watching you get *really* good. This lesson is a great example of how (I think) your playing has improved: it's slick, relaxed and creative. I'm totally practicing this - thanks for adding to my drumming vocabulary :)
Excellent walk-thru, my man! I've been playing for years and hadn't gone down this road with switching up the sticking on triplets the way you described here. Very smooth and very helpful. Thanks for posting!
Steve shows what everyone knows, but that seems new. This is Love; knows no competition, getting free to play. Thanks man. Brazilian greetings from Berlin.
I haven't played in a few years now and your vids have inspired me to practice. I end up hating what i play but then i see some videos that make me think, ok if i practice some simple things maybe ill like what i play and start playing again. You know you can hear the same message from 10 ppl but sometimes it just takes the way someone explains things to make it get thru to you. Cheers bro and thanks. Ive never been great but occasionally i can be ok.
That's a great lesson; I've played around with both components of this - but never combined them or gone with the different sounds sources the way you have. Its a good wake up call to revisit them try what you've shown. Thank you.
Bedankt
Thank you!
Ha I just noticed it says ‘Bedankt’ in my ( Dutch ) language. Anyway you deserve more money…
Hey! I heard Dave Weckl refer to you as a great drummer yesterday! I always knew that, but it was awesome to hear Weckl say it!
prior to watching this I was starting to feel a bit of confidence on the drums lol
lol
Ax men
Haha! You win bro....you win! 😂
So true haha
Dude, that's a solid lesson for free right there, ur stoked!
Perfect drum video. No pretension. Just, here's how you do it. Love it.
Exactly.
What a monster. And he's not even trying. He just is. Absolute Wecklmania. This is just toooo good to pass. You got me man. SUB SUB SUB. Taught the lesson clearly. No mystery here.
WECKLMANIA!!
HAHA I love your phrase "Wecklemaina"--so true.

I watched til the end a hybrid of weckl Gad and buddy
'Scuse me, fellas. I gotta go practice for about a million years. Thank you, Steve.
Wow. You’re so good that my ego is completely dead. You’re my internet drum master. You’re so good! Effortless.
I feel like you are one of the few drum instructors consistently putting out stuff with doubles in it. It’s just refreshing to hear you play
Fabulous playing! Great Tee!! If Buddy were still here, he'd be wearing a Steve Holmes Tee right now!!!
Yes, you have god like chops but it sounds musical. It's not fills for the sake of fills. Bloody outstanding, Steve. Can't wait to get behind the kit, once I've got over Covid.
Best wishes Gary
Good luck, Gary. Get healthy soon...
Did you get some traction with this Gary??
@@SteveHolmesDrums absolutely 💯 and thank you Steve. Blessed to see your content 🙏

"That's kind of a cool lick, right?" Indeed.
Your 16th note triplet lesson was a game changer for me years ago. I'm certain this will be the same!

Great concept. Thanks Steve...
Gave this a thumbs up because there's no "love it" option. This is a great lesson, thank you very much for posting!!!
Wow, I have been surfing videos today...this cat is dynamic, clean, and the fluidity is super clean. Thank you man. Great teaching!!!
Dude, you're an excellent teacher and an amazing drummer as well. Please keep making videos!
Your drums have gone to another level of great sound !!
I appreciate that!
Fantastic sound & playing Steve 👌
Yea how did you dial in that drum tone? Each sounds phenomenal!
Yep!
Great lesson, thank you. You can hear Gadd had such an influence on guys like Colauita, Weckle.. and the rest of us mortals. Beautiful how drumming gets passed on through the years.

Steve's tutorials are always Amazing. Thank you
Omg another incredible lesson from an incredible musician. Steve, you have changed my drumming world, and I can't say thank you enough!!!
When Steve shows up my weekend is fine👍🏾
Outstanding! If only RUclips had been around in the late 70's 😀
Nice!! ..and there's tons more permutations of this approach! Thanks for sharing Steve.
YES!!! It's been awhile but so glad to get a video from you Steve! Love your playing and lessons!
🙂👍That Lick's very similar to the "Gaddamaque". Love it!!!
Totally over thought this whole thing!!! I seen you do it at the start and I'm like no way...then you broke it down and I'm like "I can actually do this!" Just gotta keep it cool and calm then slowly speed it up as I become more comfortable with it all. This is insane!!! Thankyou!!
Love this- let me know if you get it up to speed!
So nice that you took the time to share, such a cool lick Thanks!!!
just awesome. best youtube lesson i've seen in a long time. great work. time to go practice
A year a half ago, I began practice drums with some of your videos. Very useful for me. Thank you.
foot right left. right left left. that's it... You nailed it Steve. Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks very much Steve. Valuable insights here. One of the most “striking” being how relaxed this approach can really be. The power comes along as well, but so much more fluid and creative.
Keep up the great stuff! 🙏🏻
So happy to see Steve posting again 😀
A nice change from all the matched grip single strokers. Rudiment expertice is the key!!
Simple and very fluid. I love it. Thanks Steve !
Wow....so simple yet sounds so awesome
Jam packed with clear, useful examples. Well done. Psyched to check out the past lessons...
SMOOOOOOOOOOOOTH. Absolutely beautiful. So well done, Steve. Hats off.
great lesson! Man that 16" Floor is dialed in perfectly. Sounds big fat & warm. Amazing!
Thanks Mathias! I keep whacking my rack tom mic! I think I need some new ones soon.
@@SteveHolmesDrums yes the small Shure Beta 98amp/C are not as easy to hit I guess 😅
Super helpful! The title does not disappoint!
It’s been a long time since I first caught your playing on the original blush-dah video, but your playing still blows me away everytime.
Drums sound awesome
RUclips suggested this..
Great find. 😉 Great lesson.
You ‘re my most favorite teacher now!
You have amazing groove. Can you do some groove lessons, or maybe some groove concepts?
Good idea. I'll think on it.
Very nice lesson & I appreciate the video. The explanation was very simple and easy to follow. Thx

Nice.. please do a lesson on left foot independence
Excellent walk-thru, my man! I've been playing for years and hadn't gone down this road with switching up the sticking on triplets the way you described here. Very smooth and very helpful. Thanks for posting!
That was brilliant !! Just when I start getting bored with all my shit u come along with this Thanks 😊
Man i got to say, since i saw your video i play ideas like these all the time, it came so natural to me. Thanks a lot , great content!
Another simple but deep concept, man! Killin’ as ever
Steve shows what everyone knows, but that seems new. This is Love; knows no competition, getting free to play. Thanks man. Brazilian greetings from Berlin.
Unbelievable drummer. One of the very best on RUclips. Love your videos Steve.
Wow, thanks!
Great lesson! I never intentionally put those stickings together
Thanks.one of the most clear and useful explanations ive seen
Super cool way to play those triplets.
remarkable similarity to that godly Weckl fluidity. Very clean and precise!
Impressive! Seems like the actual difficult part is coming up with musical phrases that serve the music.
I haven't played in a few years now and your vids have inspired me to practice. Don't compare yourself to others too much. You can drum and benefit from it and that's a success in and of itself.
I love finding videos like these. Opens a ton of new ideas
You make it looks so easy and so relaxed and an easy to understand teaching method. Absolutely wonderful! Thank you!
Another excellent lesson! Well done.
Thanks for this awesome idea Steve! I've played one or the other but not both together! Sweeeet!
Chops for DAY'S!!!!! Excellent tuning as well!!!
Awesome lesson, Steve! And your drum kit is fantastic, too. I'm gonna put your lesson into practice. Greetings from Argentina!
Ladies and Gentlemen Mr Steve Holmes !! Wow great lesson Steve !!
Beautiful playing and an exercise I will develop for my soloing. Thank you!
Great lesson!!! I really enjoy how you break things down and how you get a lot of mileage out of different stickings
Bloody hell that is some stick control and half.
Awesome lesson man, I'll be waiting for more.
My playing had completely plateaued, then I discovered Steve Holmes. Yet another brilliant lesson. Thanks Steve!
Excellent as always, Steve. Going to work on that tomorrow!
I love this one. Reminds me of the days, weeks and months... and years drilling this sticking.
Man, these drums sound sweeeeeet.
Great job breaking that down and showing the applications.
Love your playing, Steve. Phenomenal and phenomenal technique. You should have one million subscribers. Its true
As always, well explained and well executed! Thank you Steve!
Glad to see that you are okay...🥁
Love your videos Steve. I will be practicing this.
Awesome!! Thanks for the pro tip in the triplet linear fills
fluid like water, thanks!
Steve, as usual, just brilliant.
Freakin awesome. Just sticking, practice, speed and takes time and patience.
Excellent fill. I use the same sticking, the difference is I play the kick as the last note. so it's RlrllK. Will try this as well.
Holy wowsers...gonna try this during my next practice. Great video!!!
Whew, too good.
Great lesson. Your hands are insane.
Drum goals...
Thanks a ton!
Amazing what simple can be if you expand and practice. Truly inspiring!
Dude... you sound good
Beautiful execution and communication!
That's a great lesson; I've played around with both components of this - but never combined them or gone with the different sounds sources the way you have. Its a good wake up call to revisit them try what you've shown. Thank you.
This is the coolest sounding pattern I’ve heard in quite some time ! Thank you for sharing ! This demonstration got you one more subscriber !
3d short I picked up on you Steve, just got back in the groove, really enjoy your lessons!
Nice lesson. Very smooth chops. Thank you
