Doyle Dykes... the one man band. He hit everything but the drums and lyrics.
A M A Z I N G ! ! !
Because he is a devout Christian, and plays mostly churches, music seminars, and music shows like NAMM, he is not as widely known as some other guitarist.
His talent is mostly unknown except by other guitarist, and by people that attend churches where he has performed. He came to a church that I attended back in 1982, and I was blown away.
He is a very kind and humble man, that God has blessed with a tremendous talent, and the work ethic to learn what he knows.
God bless you Doyle Dykes.
He visited my church when I was about eight years old and I have been trying to play like him ever since and the was 25 years ago... Changed my life I still play in church... He took time to talk to a eight year old kid for about an hour he's a class act...
Amen Joseph. He played at my church 25 hrs ago. He was the same with me. Took time to show me a few licks. His version of How Great Thou Art is still one of my favorites. A humble man and class act!
I love the Sunday string along videos where he plays guitar and often teaches the Word of God just as well as he plays. Very inspiring human being !
I met Doyle in New Orleans after Katrina. He was such a genuine man with his faith.
He put on concerts at Guitar centers on the Gulf Coast. And in churches around Baton Rouge.
Such a pro with his guitar skills.
He introduced me to the enjoyment of guitar picking. I'm glad to hear him and share on these RUclips videos.
Free Bird as an instrumental on a 12-string guitar ... Doyle not only makes it work ... it sounds like a guitar masterpiece.
Doyle just does everything at another level. One of my heroes of guitar for sure! God Bless brother D.D.
Nice choice of words. Because of that, I must say Freebird was my fave Guitar Hero 2 song to play, never got bored of it.
Amazing guitarist.
I NEVER get tired of this beautiful rendition of my friend Allen's song.
I wish he'd lived to hear it.
Ronnie too...
They would have been SO proud.
God Bless Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Lynyrd Skynyrd IS the Greatest Rock n Roll band ever! Not was, but IS!! Doyle does right to honor them with with his talent…Doyle came to our church about 17 years ago…he’s a class act for sure
SKYNYRD WAS AND STILL IS THE GREATEST AMERICAN ROCK AND ROLL BAND OF ALL TIME!!
Not only is Doyle a once in a lifetime guitarist he is a great human being.
Also, I had a friend who grew up with Steve Gaines in Miami, Oklahoma, and said Stevie would always go around the house picking out Sweet Home Alabama before it was even a song.
Thought I was a guitar player, realized I'm just a guitar owner.
I hear ya man. I’m way better than buying them than playing them.
Those are who inspire us.
Doyle is a rare master.
I feel your pain bro !!!
Yeah, same. I own a few
Doyle went to collage with my church'es pastor, so he comes here a lot. He played this tune for us, He it in a medley with "Simple Man, first then "Free Bird" and ended with a little "sweet Home Alabama" . It is the only time I have ever cried over a tune in my life.
Wow just learned something they all grew up in a Pentecostal thats exactly were I started and played rythm guitar for a blue grass group at church as a young teen I left at sixteen but my heart never left Im still friends with my sunday school teacher who was our pastor's daughter thata a nice connection at heart and soul level
Thank You for this video here, I had the Pleasure to see Doyle play this in Aztec New Mexico 12 years ago @ Main St. Music, He Blew Me Away, I was not Expecting him to play this song at all, my jaw just dropped, Cousin Figel
If he's not the best guitar player in the world, he's tied with whoever is ...!
That was an absolute beautiful rendition to the miraculous Free Bird ending with Sweet Home Alabama. I think Allen Collins, Gary Rossington and Ed King would be honored to hear this tribute with the 12 string guitar.
Wow I just discovered Doyle. Unbelievable player. My new hero
Len.......He's one of the nicest people too. He's the real deal of a human in Christ.
Wow, where have you been all this time Len
I recently sat down the other night and taught myself Tennessee Stomp that Doyle does. One thing that really surprised me was just how easy some of his tunes were so easy to learn once I figure out the tuning. Wabash Cannonball as an example. I grew up playing with standard tuning and play a pretty cook version of it, but once I leaned about open and drop tuning, a whole new world open up and now I play Wabash Cannonball super fast and with a whole bunch of new licks that just aren't possible using a standard tuning.
What a gifted musician. I love Doyle's playing!
I hope people know how special this is
Amazing. The word ‘master’ resonates as well as the tune when he plays.
That's what Boger said to Snotty...
Dykes does it again!
Doyle is a wonderful guitar player. More so than that he is a good man.
Well said--😇 In Church we would say AMEN Doyle’s play makes me think of Higher things
Good music does that!
Steve thank you for posting and sharing this, first time I've heard Doyle do Skynyrd. As usual it is GREAT, I've been following him off and on when he was doing Taylor Road Shows. I can't get enough of Doyle. :)
A great man of God
Absolutely nailed it.
I think by far that Doyle is the greatest ever to pick up a guitar.
Beautiful
Awesome rendition of the original!!!
Love DD !!
The band Free got a mention in his intro. That would be The late Paul Kossof, a genius . Gone too soon.
This is brilliant . Lots of happy memories brought back .....nice one, Doyle.
One of the best guitar players on the planet!! All that on a 12string wow
Philip Broussard you are right
Philip and kenneth.......I was fortunate enough to meet Doyle and run the sound at two different clinics he put on for a store I'd worked at. Not too many people can see the statement you've made about him being one of the best on the planet but you're absolutely correct by my own experience with him. I'm talking just skill level and not aided by technology overload and wanking around. There's a reason he was called to play guitar at Chet Atkins memorial when he passed away. Chet thought, heard and saw what you do too....... Just one of the very best bar none......
@@RUHDD4HVN the sound guy has to get some credit for what we're hearing, I've heard some stuff, where a sound person was required.
He just played three players parts on one guitar 🤓😳🥳👍
So beautiful.
Unbelievabley incredible Doyle.
Holly molly he just did it...amazing!
Thanks for sharing this Steve, one of the most beautiful/unique arrangements I've heard..✌💙&🎶
Great rendition
Beautiful-thank you.
Sounds absolutely awesome
WOW!
Doyle, you've done it again. Outdone your last performance. Beautiful job on the Skynyrd. 080919.
what a tribute love what you played and that guitar sounds so awesome!!!
Perfection
Unique version
Very talented and that was very well done Awesome sound!!!
awesome
Amazing artistry from the great Doyle Dykes ... I'll go to church with you too.
Doyle are you Ron White's (the comedian) brother LOL. you remind me of him so much. Love what you do, you are great...
Thanks Paul.............
DOYLE 'IS' THE GUITAR... BORN TO DO WHAT HE DOES... :) RICH SHEFF, A '60's ROCK/BLUES GUITAR PICKER...
I've got a bunch of kin in that cemetery. Didn't know Doyle was from Jax. ✌
Jeez he makes the limitations of a 12 string seem non existent. Even the best 12 string guitars I've ever played sound great playing open chords & basic fills until I get past the 3rd fret & my hands/fingers start to say hey man 6 strings is our limit!!
😍🙏🏽😍
Love a good 12 string 👌
never heard of him But Duds Great
nice
Elvis was right about the best music coming out of the church . Phil Keaggy and Doyle prove that and throw in Tommy Emmanuel for good measure . I can't tell you who is better than who but they are all right up at thet top of their game .
That Godin sounds great...a bit like Glenn Campbell playing his 12 string Ovation...hat’s off Doyle, not all that manyp twelve string players out there these days.
An Ovation 12 string. Amazing. You can hear the volume. And finger picking it too!
godin...
godin a12
Stephen A yeah thats a Godin guitar not an ovation
You'll check out Prik Klok 19:45 by Harry Sacksioni, also 12 strings and beatiful+ virtuozo
Doyle is a hard hitter on guitar.
AND ON A DAM 12 STRINGER !!!!
12 string is hard enough with a pick but finger style is even more difficult, he makes it look easy.
That's why he has his right hand manicured with acrylic nails and superglue. That's what told and showed me 23 years ago. He gave me his thumb pick for my birthday. You know: the one that gives you the finger from Fred Kelly.
God's people- D.D. are the Best, music full of
Holy Ghost life
It sounds very much like my Seagull M12 (or SM12, whatever... the mahogany one with the LR Baggs EQ).
Mr. Godin was responsible for producing the Seagull guitars as well as this model that Doyle's playing.
Cual es la marca de la guitarra??? 😀😃🎸🎸
Godin
Steve, that's a Godin 12 he's playing correct, do they only have one 12 string model?
Tom ... that is correct.
He was promoting Godin on this tour.
Godin A12.
Is that a Canadian guitar? Godin?
Hi Eric.
The answer is YES.
Doyle used to work with Godin and was promoting their gear that night.
I obviously have more practice to do, wow, just wow
666 likes now! hahahaha
not many can pull that off....playing a 12 string acoustic is tough on the fingers..
Too much yak !!
Did you hear the part when he mentioned the boys in the band were church goers? I learned something new and more when he was yakin. If you want to hear him play just listen to a cd then you'll hear all the playing you want.......
Doyle's an ordained minister/preacher. So you're gonna get some testifying/preaching when he comes to town.
Its hes style! And we all love it!!!!!
that is one ugly sounding guitar. Too much treble making it sound tinny
Jerry.......There's other factors involved here...come on you should know that if you have any clue. If someone used a potato to record a symphony it would still sound like a potato was used...right? Is it the way the symphony really sounded (if you get the picture) or were there other factors involved in what you were hearing?
I understand the cheap recording but this guitar is still tinny sounding. Very little bottom end sound. But then, I have never been a Guild or Ovation person. The only reason Doyle plays them is the contract money and sponsership. Goyle is a great player, no doubting that.
It was recorded on a cell phone that has a tin can for a microphone!
grant.......Jerry doesn't get it. Over his head.......thx.
yes I understand, but the guitar is still tinny. I have heard one at the music store.
nice
