    Diablo has always been my go-to blade for framing and formwork. When you're reusing old form ply, you always get a little bit of concrete impregnated in the wood and that wears out blades really fast. I've found that the expensive hilti blades don't last as long as a diablo.
    Your method was solid, but my biggest critique was that you were using all these blades for a rip cut application. Rip cuts always skew performance tests towards blades with more teeth because each tip has to do less work individually, which means a lot less friction and heat buildup over time compared to real demolition blades. The wider teeth on demo blades are meant to tear across the grain and splinter the wood apart, which doesn't happen when you follow the grain. And the main use for a demolition blade would be just that, cross cutting dimension lumber to knock old structures apart.

      You have it backwards sir. "rip blades" always have less teeth not more. "Rip blades have a smaller number of teeth and larger gullets, which means there's more room to remove the shavings and dust. These blades are designed to cut along the grain of the material on the table, but although they cut faster, the resulting cuts are rougher" Pretty much everything you said is wrong.

    • @-Keith-
      @-Keith- 2 года назад +10

      @@MrWizards1974 With all due respect, the point went over your head.
      I'm not comparing rip saw blades to crosscut saw blades on a rip cut application. I'm comparing *crosscut blades* to *other crosscut blades* in a rip cut application. There's a world of difference between the two and it has nothing to do with anything you just said, at all.
      If the deciding factors for rip efficiency for crosscut blades were primarily based on gullet size and fewer teeth, you'd expect the saw blades with the largest gullets and fewest teeth to win this competition. Real world tests and real construction experience show that the reverse is true for *crosscut blades*, and that is because the most important aspect of rip cutting for a crosscut blade is the tooth alignment, NOT the gullet size or lower tooth count.
      Dedicated crosscut blades have an alternating tooth angle from left to right, which acts more like a knife to alternately slice multiple scores across the grain. This is great for tearing the grain, but not for cutting along the grain direction.
      1 out of every 3 teeth on a combination blade (edit: sometimes 1 in 2, depending on the blade) has a chisel tooth that is square to the cut direction, and it is this tooth that makes the combination blade more effective on a rip cut over a pure crosscut blade.
      The more chisel tip teeth the combination blade has, the better it will be in rip cut applications.
      This is why all the 24 tooth combination blades performed nearly identically well, while the 14 tooth blades performed consistently poorly, and the 5 tooth demo blade performed consistently horribly. When you're using a crosscut blade on a rip application, the biggest deciding factor is the number of chisel teeth and this is why I pointed out to Project Farm that it would be better to do these tests in a crosscut setting, otherwise it makes the results of the demo blades artificially worse.

      In demo work where blades are going to dull no matter what you do fewer teeth will often allow the blade to have some bite where blades with high teeth counts just start gliding. The saw used also lacked the torque for the blade. I still feel the results are valid for the general user though as most people aren't going to buy an expensive high torque saw for DIY stuff. If I'm not mistaken the saw used in testing is about a $50 saw. At the end of the day Big Blue will still be cutting, ah bashing actually, through boards when most of the other blades just try to start a fire not going anywhere.

Some of those Roto coolers also weigh a lot.. then you add Ice and food/ beer/ assorted contents... I was going to get a big 150 liter one for fishing, to hold the trout/salmon we catch, but the blasted thing was 89 lbs EMPTY. Add ice and a few 20+ lb salmon or 4 or 5 big lakers, and you'll need a team, or a crane to offload it. ( It was ~$800 (Cdn) on Amazon.

      @@mc-sp8zr I saw a guy come in the mower shop while I was buying blades and said his wasn't mowing good. I ask if he looked under the deck at the blades or to see if dead grass was built up on the deck. He never even looked😜 I swap sides of the deck each time I sharpen mine (2 blade riding) because the discharge side blade always wears faster. It gives each blade equal wear doing that.

      @@ProjectFarm Before you finish your testing, is it feasible to test the effect that the pressure washers have on rust? I'm actually planning to use pressure washers on rust for a project. (I'll be oxidizing the steel with diluted hydrochloric acid, then let it sit for a couple of weeks, then neutralize with baking soda in water, then pressure wash it with water, or I was thinking of pressure wash it with the baking soda water. Anyway, the idea is to leave a rusted texture, not to remove it completely.)

      This is a test of demo blades, not framing or finish blades. That said, just an anecdote of course, Diablo is what I run on most of my saws for decent finish quality at an acceptable price.

    • @rockobeam2706
      @rockobeam2706 3 года назад +1

      The Diablo does a pretty nice cut. Even on its last leg. They make a great finishing blade too. Cost is higher but really good cuts

    • @rockobeam2706
      @rockobeam2706 3 года назад +1

      @MTR for sure. The one thing I do like is that the thin blade puts way less load on my saws too. Your saws last longer... I build custom cabinets and yacht interiors. Diablo finishing blades are my go to.. when they are worn out usually the carbide tips will wear on one angle more than the other. So tends to naturally curve one way or the other. So I mark left or right on it and save for boat planks😂... I'm cheap/inventive. Glad they did not to bad in the tests.
