Oh no some extra music, oh no a camp site, oh no some credit things to use. Even though you get lots from the get go in the starting area as well as throughout the game without even noticing it. The first game was 100% the same as this when it launched but most people jumped on the game when it had all dlc and content out in one set. Oh no a game requires you to use in game resources to change major details about your characters looks so do many games hell doesn't BG3 also do that and in both games you can change how you look before you leave the starting area. This is alot of stuff being said and blown out of what it is and repeated by people who haven't a clue who then have others who repeat it and are just wrong. Oh no I pre ordered a game from a series I like and have played since it came out I guess something bad of me 😂
Every NG+ you get to change your character and your pawn, you only "pay" to change it in the middle of the playthrough. This is why i think at least experiencing the first game once is a good way before jumping into the sequel

you CAN pay optionally to CHANGE your characters whole appearance mid game, start and at the start of NG you can change your characters appearance/race...the rest are all things you can get in game just by playing. DMC did the same thing and no one cared ? Just ignore the completely unneeded MTX. Only thing that needs fixed is the performance issues,
It's $95 here in Canada, which is essentially $100 when adding the taxes from the province I live in. It's some of the most scuffed conversion pricing I've seen. I'm never paying that much for a base game for as long as I live, regardless of hype and quality.

It costs 500 Rift Crystals to change your character's appearance. That's about 3% of the cost of a lvl 30 pawn. You don't have to pay, you will get those crystals after playing for a couple of hours, and then you will get thousands of these crystals after playing a couple more hours. Unless you have the insatiable desire to edit your character before leaving the starter town, 20 minutes after first creating it in the character creation, I don't see the issue.

Yeah, I was almost willing to jump in and grit through the performance in the cities but $2 to change your appearance and apparently not being able to change the appearance even if you delete your save file and start over put this strictly on my no buy list. Shame. Ah well, I decided to grab BG3 which I haven't played yet. lol.

None of the microtransactions adds anything relevant to the game, single save and no character editor are features from the first game. The performance is a problem tho

The base game is 94.99 CAD on Steam here in Canada on release day (March 21st, 2024). There are 21 DLC's available today. 11pm right now on a Western Canada night and the game currently has "Mostly Negative" reviews on Steam.

I think the reason is because you make a pawn along with your character, and if you could make multiple pawns, it’d ruin the social aspect of getting other players pawns and gifting them stuff Vice versa. It would also overfill the pawn list and would ruin diversity.

7900xt and a 7800x3d cpu with 32 gb ddr 5 4800 ram and I get like 55-65 fps. My gpu utilisation is at 65 percent and never goes higher. Very cpu bound. Bad bad bad optimisation.

You can but you have to dig through the folders "PC navigate to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\ Within this director you are looking for the Dragon’s Dogma 2 folder. So search for the number Steam ID for the game. Go into this folder and look for another called “remote” Within this folder you should see “win64_save”, delete that" Yeah kinda stupid they didn't have the option to do that in-game lol. On console, you just delete your save.
I don't get the single save idea in a single player game. What benefit is that to the player. This is probably done to justify the 21 microtransactions that suddenly appeared on release day. Nudge players a bit more towards paying some money for changing their appearance perhaps, those who don't know you can get one such item in-game for free per playthrough mayhaps, or who needs more than one.

I learned my lesson with Battlefield 2042 and Cyberpunk 2077 to never ever no matter what pre-order a game. In the current era of gaming pushing out broken or unfinished games I don’t understand at this point why everyone is surprised yet another game is released broken or unfinished. The simple solution to this crisis is to stop buying day one and stop pre-ordering. Let these RUclipsrs and reviewers play these broken games and just wait a couple days to buy it after the devs fixes the game. Remember game developers primarily goal is your $$$ not your enjoyment. My only gripe about this is “one character slot” because i want to have two optimized characters. Any DD1 vets know that MTX in Dragon’s Dogma is a useless function to have since you can get everything in-game. If the game is anything like the first one, you can get a permanent character edit voucher in-game too.

Reviewers are actually reviewing the game, you know: Gameplay, graphics, mechanics, story. The actual stuff that you play and make the game :D And since MTX/DLC werent available at time of testing, none of the reviewers found it to be needed! Taking away points for MTX and performance is fair. Without performance issues and MTX its a clear 8/10. Both of them, set it to a 7/10 for me. If performance gets fixes its back to 8/10 again. A game is a sum of allot of factors.
im using a 3070 and admittedly a $800 cpu so it may be skewing my results but i get a solid 60fps with everything on high as long as im not in a city, then it hits 30. its the friendly ai that are causing all the frame issues currently.

I remember when i first played the first DD, walking in like it's a Sandbox ARPG, chill and cozy, but that's the trap. I remember thinking that quest where you take the Hydra's head to the capital was just a quest, but it's literally just traveling to the capital, all the monsters and traps in the way are still there even outside the quest, waiting for you in the nights to come...

The optimization, or lack thereof, had me decide to wait a month or so before buying. The $1.99 microtransaction to remake your character had me decide to never buy this game.
I’ve been seeing this a lot but from what I’ve seen so far all the micro transactions, including the character edit, are stuff you can find in the in game world for no money. So far nothing in the shop can’t be gotten just by playing.

They're a separate immortal species that exists to aid and are created by an Arisen not actual people you're buying and selling. They're basically just humanoid golems that lack any sort of real emotion or willpower.
@@Dakumun640 I thought the lore was every Arisen, throughout space and time (i.e. every player and past Arisen NPC), created their own Pawn. That's what makes up the "Pawn Legion". I mean that's why they have you create your own main Pawn instead of just giving you an existing one.

To me the pawns are one of the worst parts of the game ... An NPC that refers to itself as a pawn while worshiping you like a god. It's just a bad story imo. I'm glad some people love the game, it's just not for me. I refunded it last night.

They "worship" you because serving an Arisen is literally the only reason they exist (similar to a Meeseeks). They have no real emotion or willpower. They're quite literally just a mindless living golem/puppet/doll that's why you can completely change their personality, because they don't actually have one of their own. They're even immortal like you'd expect a golem/puppet/doll to be.
I loved Dragons Dogma since first launch in 2012 got it on multiple platforms, and I can't wait to play this but... @@ferwindProlly because of the performance, which will prolly get solved relatively soon-ish, if the other games like this are any measure. But yeah, people either exaggerate or straight up lie about what is and isn't in the game, because these people immediately refunded and never noticed how easy it was to obtain these items. I think steam should up refund times to about 5 hours and only let people review a game they have played for more than atleast 2 or 3 hours, instead of buying, not playing, refunding, then leaving a review that's woefully uninformed. Micro transactions in a single player game isn't great, but Monster hunter has these exact same things and no one gets made at that.
For everyone who don't know you can change the appearance of yourself and your pawn find the npc who's name is clovis and the merchant with a merchant below the capital also the book of metamorphosis is random I found one alongside the waterfall xd
I read you get one such free change per NG+, not that I can confirm that though, so maybe there's more. Regardless, doesn't matter. They sell this stuff and as such they have an incentive to make it harder for you to get it for free to push you towards spending the money. It's scummy no matter what. I wonder why you only get one save game and why there is no option to start over or delete the save once you have started playing the game, locking in your characters. Feels a bit too convenient when they sell stuff like changing your character apperance in a $70 single player game.

Nah I don't agree with that cause you can earn more in game and some of pawns are only 0, then you can let your pawn get hire.. I'm earning 10 currency per 30 mins.. So buying the deluxe edition is a pretty bad idea. Also I somewhat agree with them having no save slots but I somehow get why because you can entirely change anything in your first playthrough. But buying for deluxe? Only an idiot will do that since you can get pretty much everything at the start xd

While I agree the microtransaction is terrible(And I hope modders find a way around it) I don't think a $2 microtransaction should tank a review in a game. Like the gameplay is more enjoyable than Starfield and I think Starfield is 5/10 I think it's a 6/10 or maybe a 7/10 realistically.
its not to make a new character, its to customise your character mid playthrough and even then those customisation scrolls are not hard to get just awkward. i dislike it being sold too but lets not act like theyre completely locking content behind a paywall.

My biggest issue was that the spacing of the combat felt extremely extremely slow to the point where some combat encounters just brought it to a grinding halt. I think a game like mhw balanced it well with 20 minute combat encounters but the combat felt tense and somewhat fast paced. I can see the appeal of the game tho, I just preferred something like lies of p

The microtransactions again....prime example of how it can destroy a game is Middle Earth: Shadow of War. Absolutely beautiful game with a unique game system never seen before, but so many people refused to play it, including myself, because of the microtransactions. They eventually removed them, and it was then, and only then, that I decided to play the game. Hopefully they remove them here too.
Is it just me or DD2 isn't really a 'sequel'? Performance aside, to me it looks like a well-made expansive remake of the first game, with an bigger map and better graphics.. Everything else looks slightly improved but generally unchanged to me.. Almost no new mechanics, same themes, same icons, pretty much same menus, many same armor pieces etc.. If this was served as an expansion to the first game - I'd believe it..
Big fan of Asmon, agree with what he's saying, however it's NOT just the performance and inexcusable MTX, which on its own would be plenty. - Voice options in character creator are all the same single black female VA, then they used AI down/up sampling to make the other voices. This means that male voices sound strange (female) and most if not all the female voices all sound like a black or english woman. (FYI for the SJWs out there, pointing this fact out is neither racist nor sexist) - Combat is NOT good. Feedback is non existent, swinging a sword feels like a mobile game from 2005. Lackluster sound design, vfx and haptic feedback makes it look and feel like you're swinging a plastic weapon. Same goes for spells, especially the magic bolts. - They REMOVED 40% OF SPELLS from the first game. There is NO HOLY OR DARK enchantments, attack spells etc. There are only one or two holy defense spells. - Game balance is a joke. You can literally let your pawns do everything while you sit back. I'm only 10+ hours in and I'm starting to instantly delete things before their attack patterns can trigger... - Sound design is incredibly lackluster, both in SFX and music. The first game had amazing music, soundtrack and more. This sequel has what can best be described as AI replication of what a generic MMO or Elder Scrolls clone would sound like. - They replaced Mystic Knight vocation with Mystic Spearhand, simultaneously removing several builds that are essential to a game like this including paladin, spellsword etc, and instead recplaced it with a class that feigns a mixture of magic and melee just because you have some teleportation abilities to then fight in melee. - In the first game you could bind six abilities to use, in this game you CAN ONLY HAVE FOUR ABILITIES AT ONCE. Another downgrade, bravo Capcom. - Character animations are stiff as hell, cutscenes and in game alike sees them stand still and move only their mouth. Looks like more AI animation to save money or something. Sometimes their eyes move if they have to express surprise or something. - Conversations are incredibly inorganic, forcing you to press a button after EVERY - SINGLE - SENTENCE to progress the conversation. Holy hell it's so stupid. - Nearly exactly the same abilities as in the first game, almost no new spells or tactics, excluding the new trickster and mystic spearhand vocation. As mentioned above in fact, they removed a lot from the first game. - Last but not least, if you use a PlayStation controller while on PC the game overrides your Steam settings and blasts bright colred light on the controller, which will be reflected by your screen and obscure what's going on. Nice cherry on the rotten cake. TLDR: It's NOT just the money grubbing execs. The creatives have massively dropped the ball here as well. Literally the only thing they improved from the first game is: - Size of the game - Modern graphics (but I think it's fair to say nowhere near top of the line) - A few new monster types Everyone at capcom, execs AND devs/creatives, should be ashamed. They had the chance to make Dragon's Dogma into a household name. Instead they spat on the legacy and the fans who've waited for over a decade.

The weirdest thing about this outrage is that these MTX aren't even in-app purchases. They're completely unintrusive to the game, unlike basically any other MTX game where you can click into the store or you get ads or directed to go buy currency or a battle pass. I didn’t even know rift crystals as a microtransaction exist. As someone who’s played all day yesterday, rift crystals are not hard to get. A golem I killed dropped 540. Rift stones gives 30 each, and I haven’t found all of them. People hiring your pawn offers RC. Me and my friends helped each other with that. A couple of chests have given me RC. I’ve earned over 2k by just playing. I bought a change appearance, and can still buy the 2k glasses. I don’t agree with the MTX, but you really wouldn’t need it at all, especially if it’s just for changing appearances. But every NG+ you get a free change so if you’re the player who wants to role play someone else every play through? You’ll be fine, and with how little the RC vendor provides in purchasable, you’re gonna be rich in RC.
The microtransactions are gross, this game will sell very well why do they need microtransactions? They'll make 10 times more that what they spent, and they still charge you for changing your appearance? This is a 70 dollar game for God's sake.
Even if we take a away the DLC nonsense, I’ve got to say… I was not impressed with the first hour of gameplay, having a hard time understanding what will change to get to the levels of praise this game was getting pre launch.
I’m DD1 when you beat the game you become a new Arisen and are able to change your character for NG+. Pretty sure it’s the same in this game. With an additional option if you want to change your character during the play through. Don’t make a trash character you don’t want to use later on🤷
I see a lot of people saying that you "NEED" to pay to (for example) change your appearance in the game but its not true. You can get the In game currency for free by just playing the game and set a pawn quest so your pawn joins other players. You can also get RC by killing certain enemies and then collecting the RC.
Dude it’s so good lol, I feel bad for everyone having issues right now, the underlying game is great! Im on a 2080 (rtx off) and im getting around 50 fps. Fortunately my experience has been good. Im loving it so far
So…. Its Dragon’s Dogma 1 all over again? One character slot, cannot change appearance (except for barber), no mount-only ferry stones, and useless MTX (never have to use it in DD1). That was a bit disappointing to hear ngl. I was hoping for multiple characters slots.

Your not the brightest it might seem if writing a paragraph is that hard you must not think a lot or talk we talk several paragraphs a min when in conversation in reality because texting short responses does not explain or express just about anything. Also it’s a 14 min video I could make a 45 min response to in words Learn to write and speak at least a little maybe writing a paragraph won’t break your mind then. It took me 17 secs to write all this by the way I timed it. That means I can respond at least three times in a min 3 paragraphs by text about 10 paragraphs verbally. In 20 secs I could easily drop a paragraph just on the title alone..

The biggest complaint I have so far is where are the pause combos? DD1 could have had more in my opinion but I'm over 10 hours in and I don't find the option to learn one of these. Plus some minor things part one did better or more elegant but the crap that everyone's conplaining about doesn't bother me at all, that's just bs of people who haven't even bought the game or they would know that it's not even true what they're crying about.
What needs to be addressed: ALL of the microtransactions, can be gotten in game, for free. The Art of Meta to change your character, you can go buy for 500RC i believe from vendors in the game a few hours in, and it restocks like other items after certain amount of time. Same thing with the camping, RC earned, and fast travel. You dont get fast travel until mid way/end game, like it was in the first game. But if you want to cheat, you can pay for it and get it early. The option is there, its not behind a paywall.

You can buy Art of Metamorphosis item for ingame currency btw it lets you customize your character for free for anyone concerned about having to pay actual money to change apperance. You can also buy items to resurrect and teleporting stones too, don't waste your money on micro transactions they did this in RE4, just for people who are lazy
I haven't played the second game yet but i know that in the first one you gotta buy a serum with in game currency(rift crystal) to be able to customize your character again. I dont know if those rift crystal are still in the game or not.
Digital deluxe upgrade items are in nearly every game these days. The "change your appearance" and many other items are just being sold piecemeal for those that didn't get the upgrade. You can still get everything in game for free. Just not the DD1 music "skin". Do your research before jumping on bandwagon that drive off cliffs.

@@arnejohnson7542 It's in IGN's performance review. With the specs I mentioned, they ran the game at 4k, max settings, with ray tracing & dlss on. Outside of town it ran between 50-60fps, in towns, it dipped to 30.
The first game was like the best 7/10, but it wasn’t cuz of optimization so it sucks to hear that this game is hindered by issues that quite frankly have no excuses
For those who never played Dragon's Dogma: This is Dungeons & Dragons with real time combat. You'll spend roughly 15% of gameplay time micromanaging your group's loadout and inventory. In other words, Baldurs Gate 3 but with real time combat. i think the problem with DD2 (and DD1) isn't the game itself per se. It's that the game design is inherently divisive, you'll either love it or hate it. Hence the fluctuating scores
But the real time combat looks (i have never played it) terrible. I can't explain it but watching 10-15 minutes of the combat in this game turned me off of it completely.
I loved that micromanaging aspect in bg3 and if true I'm sure I'll like it in DD2 as well. but my main gripe is the single playthrough save. I haven't even finished BG3 but I already have 6 different saves just by playing different builds and party synergies. Same thing with Skyrim.
Asmon knows that. He did the Witch Hunt quest for her, it's on his listed vids from a few days ago. He also seemingly beat it because he talks about the Everfall. He's just talking about the broad scope. Very few Pawns go through the Bestowal of Spirit process.
It is interesting people throwing their arms in the air over optional micros that don't do much. It's funny how useless it is but to get mad over it is weird. ( Character creation is understandable but you might be about to get that ingame anyway ) I'm console so I can't speak on performance yet but my only annoyance so far is I have to go to ps5 settings just to delete a save file. It's not that deep at the end of the day. Just tedious in the beginning restarting to get my character looking right.

Warning people since alot are praising capcom for everything. This game is exactly like the first. It has the same enemies, same non compelling boring quest and same boring world. At times when i look at this, it looks like a remake or just a graphically enhanced port.
That`s why I play without extra pawns in DD1. I only travel with mine, make it a mage and give it the staff that black market vendor sells - the staff will resurrect the pawn when he dies and You can continue to dps :D

The first game was 100% the same as this when it launched but most people jumped on the game when it had all dlc and content out in one set. Oh no a game requires you to use in game resources to change major details about your characters looks so do many games hell doesn't BG3 also do that and in both games you can change how you look before you leave the starting area. Every NG+ you get to change your character and your pawn, you only "pay" to change it in the middle of the playthrough. This is why i think at least experiencing the first game once is a good way before jumping into the sequel

you CAN pay optionally to CHANGE your characters whole appearance mid game, start and at the start of NG you can change your characters appearance/race...the rest are all things you can get in game just by playing. DMC did the same thing and no one cared ? Just ignore the completely unneeded MTX. Only thing that needs fixed is the performance issues,
It's $95 here in Canada, which is essentially $100 when adding the taxes from the province I live in. It's some of the most scuffed conversion pricing I've seen. I'm never paying that much for a base game for as long as I live, regardless of hype and quality.

It costs 500 Rift Crystals to change your character's appearance. That's about 3% of the cost of a lvl 30 pawn.
You don't have to pay, you will get those crystals after playing for a couple of hours, and then you will get thousands of these crystals after playing a couple more hours.
Unless you have the insatiable desire to edit your character before leaving the starter town, 20 minutes after first creating it in the character creation, I don't see the issue.

The base game is 94.99 CAD on Steam here in Canada on release day (March 21st, 2024). There are 21 DLC's available today. 11pm right now on a Western Canada night and the game currently has "Mostly Negative" reviews on Steam.
Not doing great on Steam so far. Complaints of crashes and awful performance even on good systems.

I think the reason is because you make a pawn along with your character, and if you could make multiple pawns, it’d ruin the social aspect of getting other players pawns and gifting them stuff Vice versa. It would also overfill the pawn list and would ruin diversity.

3070ti with a ryzen 7 3800x i get about 50-70fps messed with the settings a little bit.
7900xt and a 7800x3d cpu with 32 gb ddr 5 4800 ram and I get like 55-65 fps. My gpu utilisation is at 65 percent and never goes higher. Very cpu bound. Bad bad bad optimisation.

I don't get the single save idea in a single player game. What benefit is that to the player. This is probably done to justify the 21 microtransactions that suddenly appeared on release day. Nudge players a bit more towards paying some money for changing their appearance perhaps, those who don't know you can get one such item in-game for free per playthrough mayhaps, or who needs more than one.

In the current era of gaming pushing out broken or unfinished games I don’t understand at this point why everyone is surprised yet another game is released broken or unfinished. The simple solution to this crisis is to stop buying day one and stop pre-ordering. Let these RUclipsrs and reviewers play these broken games and just wait a couple days to buy it after the devs fixes the game. Remember game developers primarily goal is your $$$ not your enjoyment. Reviewers are actually reviewing the game, you know: Gameplay, graphics, mechanics, story. The actual stuff that you play and make the game :D And since MTX/DLC werent available at time of testing, none of the reviewers found it to be needed! Taking away points for MTX and performance is fair. Without performance issues and MTX its a clear 8/10. Both of them, set it to a 7/10 for me. If performance gets fixes its back to 8/10 again. A game is a sum of allot of factors.

im using a 3070 and admittedly a $800 cpu so it may be skewing my results but i get a solid 60fps with everything on high as long as im not in a city, then it hits 30. its the friendly ai that are causing all the frame issues currently.

I remember when i first played the first DD, walking in like it's a Sandbox ARPG, chill and cozy, but that's the trap. I remember thinking that quest where you take the Hydra's head to the capital was just a quest, but it's literally just traveling to the capital, all the monsters and traps in the way are still there even outside the quest, waiting for you in the nights to come...

I’ve been seeing this a lot but from what I’ve seen so far all the micro transactions, including the character edit, are stuff you can find in the in game world for no money. So far nothing in the shop can’t be gotten just by playing.

@@Dakumun640 I thought the lore was every Arisen, throughout space and time (i.e. every player and past Arisen NPC), created their own Pawn. That's what makes up the "Pawn Legion". I mean that's why they have you create your own main Pawn instead of just giving you an existing one.

They "worship" you because serving an Arisen is literally the only reason they exist (similar to a Meeseeks). They have no real emotion or willpower. I loved Dragons Dogma since first launch in 2012 got it on multiple platforms, and I can't wait to play this but... I'm so glad I didn't pay full price for this game, wtf is with these companies, specifically Capcom in this instance, with microtransactions in single player games especially for character edit?? I dont understand didnt DD1 have the same microtransactions? I hate microtransactions but these ones are really easy to ignore, they are all available in game even the character edit scrolls. But yeah, people either exaggerate or straight up lie about what is and isn't in the game, because these people immediately refunded and never noticed how easy it was to obtain these items. I think steam should up refund times to about 5 hours and only let people review a game they have played for more than atleast 2 or 3 hours, instead of buying, not playing, refunding, then leaving a review that's woefully uninformed. Micro transactions in a single player game isn't great, but Monster hunter has these exact same things and no one gets made at that.
For everyone who don't know you can change the appearance of yourself and your pawn find the npc who's name is clovis and the merchant with a merchant below the capital also the book of metamorphosis is random I found one alongside the waterfall xd
I read you get one such free change per NG+, not that I can confirm that though, so maybe there's more. Regardless, doesn't matter. They sell this stuff and as such they have an incentive to make it harder for you to get it for free to push you towards spending the money. It's scummy no matter what. I wonder why you only get one save game and why there is no option to start over or delete the save once you have started playing the game, locking in your characters. Feels a bit too convenient when they sell stuff like changing your character apperance in a $70 single player game.

Nah I don't agree with that cause you can earn more in game and some of pawns are only 0, then you can let your pawn get hire.. I'm earning 10 currency per 30 mins.. So buying the deluxe edition is a pretty bad idea. Also I somewhat agree with them having no save slots but I somehow get why because you can entirely change anything in your first playthrough. But buying for deluxe? Only an idiot will do that since you can get pretty much everything at the start xd

While I agree the microtransaction is terrible(And I hope modders find a way around it) I don't think a $2 microtransaction should tank a review in a game. Like the gameplay is more enjoyable than Starfield and I think Starfield is 5/10 I think it's a 6/10 or maybe a 7/10 realistically.
its not to make a new character, its to customise your character mid playthrough and even then those customisation scrolls are not hard to get just awkward. i dislike it being sold too but lets not act like theyre completely locking content behind a paywall.

The microtransactions again....prime example of how it can destroy a game is Middle Earth: Shadow of War. Absolutely beautiful game with a unique game system never seen before, but so many people refused to play it, including myself, because of the microtransactions. They eventually removed them, and it was then, and only then, that I decided to play the game. Hopefully they remove them here too.
I think they need to push the launch back until they deal with the lag
Is it just me or DD2 isn't really a 'sequel'? Performance aside, to me it looks like a well-made expansive remake of the first game, with an bigger map and better graphics.. Everything else looks slightly improved but generally unchanged to me.. Almost no new mechanics, same themes, same icons, pretty much same menus, many same armor pieces etc.. If this was served as an expansion to the first game - I'd believe it..
Big fan of Asmon, agree with what he's saying, however it's NOT just the performance and inexcusable MTX, which on its own would be plenty.
- Voice options in character creator are all the same single black female VA, then they used AI down/up sampling to make the other voices. This means that male voices sound strange (female) and most if not all the female voices all sound like a black or english woman. (FYI for the SJWs out there, pointing this fact out is neither racist nor sexist)
- Combat is NOT good. Feedback is non existent, swinging a sword feels like a mobile game from 2005. Lackluster sound design, vfx and haptic feedback makes it look and feel like you're swinging a plastic weapon. Same goes for spells, especially the magic bolts.
- They REMOVED 40% OF SPELLS from the first game. There is NO HOLY OR DARK enchantments, attack spells etc. There are only one or two holy defense spells.
- Game balance is a joke. You can literally let your pawns do everything while you sit back. I'm only 10+ hours in and I'm starting to instantly delete things before their attack patterns can trigger...
- Sound design is incredibly lackluster, both in SFX and music. The first game had amazing music, soundtrack and more. This sequel has what can best be described as AI replication of what a generic MMO or Elder Scrolls clone would sound like.
- They replaced Mystic Knight vocation with Mystic Spearhand, simultaneously removing several builds that are essential to a game like this including paladin, spellsword etc, and instead recplaced it with a class that feigns a mixture of magic and melee just because you have some teleportation abilities to then fight in melee.
- In the first game you could bind six abilities to use, in this game you CAN ONLY HAVE FOUR ABILITIES AT ONCE. Another downgrade, bravo Capcom.
- Character animations are stiff as hell, cutscenes and in game alike sees them stand still and move only their mouth. Looks like more AI animation to save money or something. Sometimes their eyes move if they have to express surprise or something.
- Conversations are incredibly inorganic, forcing you to press a button after EVERY - SINGLE - SENTENCE to progress the conversation. Holy hell it's so stupid.
- Nearly exactly the same abilities as in the first game, almost no new spells or tactics, excluding the new trickster and mystic spearhand vocation. As mentioned above in fact, they removed a lot from the first game.
- Last but not least, if you use a PlayStation controller while on PC the game overrides your Steam settings and blasts bright colred light on the controller, which will be reflected by your screen and obscure what's going on. Nice cherry on the rotten cake.
TLDR: It's NOT just the money grubbing execs. The creatives have massively dropped the ball here as well.
Literally the only thing they improved from the first game is:
- Size of the game
- Modern graphics (but I think it's fair to say nowhere near top of the line)
- A few new monster types
Everyone at capcom, execs AND devs/creatives, should be ashamed. They had the chance to make Dragon's Dogma into a household name. Instead they spat on the legacy and the fans who've waited for over a decade.

The weirdest thing about this outrage is that these MTX aren't even in-app purchases. As someone who’s played all day yesterday, rift crystals are not hard to get. A golem I killed dropped 540. Rift stones gives 30 each, and I haven’t found all of them. People hiring your pawn offers RC. Me and my friends helped each other with that. A couple of chests have given me RC. I’ve earned over 2k by just playing. I bought a change appearance, and can still buy the 2k glasses.
I don’t agree with the MTX, but you really wouldn’t need it at all, especially if it’s just for changing appearances.
But every NG+ you get a free change so if you’re the player who wants to role play someone else every play through? You’ll be fine, and with how little the RC vendor provides in purchasable, you’re gonna be rich in RC.

I’m DD1 when you beat the game you become a new Arisen and are able to change your character for NG+. Pretty sure it’s the same in this game. With an additional option if you want to change your character during the play through. Don’t make a trash character you don’t want to use later on🤷
I see a lot of people saying that you "NEED" to pay to (for example) change your appearance in the game but its not true. You can get the In game currency for free by just playing the game and set a pawn quest so your pawn joins other players. You can also get RC by killing certain enemies and then collecting the RC.

The biggest complaint I have so far is where are the pause combos? DD1 could have had more in my opinion but I'm over 10 hours in and I don't find the option to learn one of these.
Plus some minor things part one did better or more elegant but the crap that everyone's conplaining about doesn't bother me at all, that's just bs of people who haven't even bought the game or they would know that it's not even true what they're crying about.
What needs to be addressed:
ALL of the microtransactions, can be gotten in game, for free.
The Art of Meta to change your character, you can go buy for 500RC i believe from vendors in the game a few hours in, and it restocks like other items after certain amount of time.
Same thing with the camping, RC earned, and fast travel.
You dont get fast travel until mid way/end game, like it was in the first game. But if you want to cheat, you can pay for it and get it early. The option is there, its not behind a paywall.
And people say this is GOTY 🤣

You can buy Art of Metamorphosis item for ingame currency btw it lets you customize your character for free for anyone concerned about having to pay actual money to change apperance. You can also buy items to resurrect and teleporting stones too, don't waste your money on micro transactions they did this in RE4, just for people who are lazy

Digital deluxe upgrade items are in nearly every game these days. The "change your appearance" and many other items are just being sold piecemeal for those that didn't get the upgrade. You can still get everything in game for free. Just not the DD1 music "skin".

@@arnejohnson7542 It's in IGN's performance review. With the specs I mentioned, they ran the game at 4k, max settings, with ray tracing & dlss on. Outside of town it ran between 50-60fps, in towns, it dipped to 30.
The first game was like the best 7/10, but it wasn’t cuz of optimization so it sucks to hear that this game is hindered by issues that quite frankly have no excuses
For those who never played Dragon's Dogma: This is Dungeons & Dragons with real time combat. You'll spend roughly 15% of gameplay time micromanaging your group's loadout and inventory. In other words, Baldurs Gate 3 but with real time combat.
i think the problem with DD2 (and DD1) isn't the game itself per se. It's that the game design is inherently divisive, you'll either love it or hate it. Hence the fluctuating scores
But the real time combat looks (i have never played it) terrible. I can't explain it but watching 10-15 minutes of the combat in this game turned me off of it completely.
I loved that micromanaging aspect in bg3 and if true I'm sure I'll like it in DD2 as well. but my main gripe is the single playthrough save. I haven't even finished BG3 but I already have 6 different saves just by playing different builds and party synergies. Same thing with Skyrim.
If you go through the story line with seline you find out pawns can eventually become humans if their Arisen gives them part of their soul.
Asmon knows that. He did the Witch Hunt quest for her, it's on his listed vids from a few days ago. He also seemingly beat it because he talks about the Everfall. He's just talking about the broad scope. Very few Pawns go through the Bestowal of Spirit process.
Dying light has a brutal night cycle.
Not only will pawns guide you but they're great for comic relief.
It is interesting people throwing their arms in the air over optional micros that don't do much. It's funny how useless it is but to get mad over it is weird. ( Character creation is understandable but you might be about to get that ingame anyway )
I'm console so I can't speak on performance yet but my only annoyance so far is I have to go to ps5 settings just to delete a save file. It's not that deep at the end of the day. Just tedious in the beginning restarting to get my character looking right.

Warning people since alot are praising capcom for everything. This game is exactly like the first. It has the same enemies, same non compelling boring quest and same boring world.
At times when i look at this, it looks like a remake or just a graphically enhanced port.
That`s why I play without extra pawns in DD1. I only travel with mine, make it a mage and give it the staff that black market vendor sells - the staff will resurrect the pawn when he dies and You can continue to dps :D
